We have decided to change the Teams page to be the Liverpool Match Posts page, so look for posts talking about the latest Liverpool match there.

But most of the posts still go to the Liverpool Banter page.

Also more posts are being added to the Liverpool Other Posts page.

Are we genuinely interested in Dayot Upamecano Eds or is this more papertalk? It's almost hilarious if we are interested as the papers have an 18 year old who is worth between £7.5m and £12m max and us having to pay €100m.

Believable3 1Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - There may well be interest from Liverpool in Dayot Upamecano - he is attracting the interest of Barcelona and Manchester United as well.}

22 Sep 2017 14:32:33
Get out is he 18! I thought he was about 25. Agree he isn't worth €100m but if he is 18 he is seriously talented.

23 Sep 2017 11:59:23
I've only seen him once when i watched Leipzig earlier this season. I have to be honest i was watching Keita, but from what i remember of Upamecano he was a monster. I had no idea he was still a teenager so just assumed he was a decent centre back. Now i know he is barely out of school i want to watch him again, more closely to get a better idea.

All i can say is he looked like a seasoned pro, and was physically dominant. I wouldn't like to say any more after one game where i wasn't paying much attention to him.

He has some pretty impressive ball skills - more like a midfielder than a CB and gets up the pitch quickly.
He is defensively strong and good in the air as well as tackling.
Is he worth 100m? Well no, I don't think any defender is - but at 19 years old he has longevity on his side and if VVD is 70m pounds then 100m euros ain't that bad!
Mind you we won't get 100m for all 3 current CB's so its a $$$ outlay.

Hi eds
I know we signed matip on a free way before the transfer window opened. Is there anyone We could sign in the coming weeks leading up to Jan that would help our defence in anyway. It would be nice to know that we had someone lined up ready.
As always thanks.

21 Sep 2017 08:11:40
Jan Kirchoff? The massive German who kept Sunderland up single handedly 2 years ago?

That can't be right. If it is he must be injured. He is a decent centre back/ holding midfielder from what I've seen. Sunderland were soft, lacked leadership, lacking in steel and fight etc and he went in there and was a massive part of their turn around.

I didn't see enough of him to know if he is good enough for Liverpool, but he is a better defender than Lovren and Klavan that is for sure!

Agree0 11Disagree

{Ed001's Note - he is awful MKS, he is slow, cumbersome and got the credit for no reason I could see. He was always about 6 yards behind the play, but he put in a couple of good passes and suddenly he was the reincarnation of Beckenbauer in the media. One man kept Sunderland up that season and it was not Kirchhoff, it was Allardyce. Kirchhoff is injured, he did his cruciate, but he is simply not as good as people believe. He makes Matip look lively when chasing back.}

21 Sep 2017 11:50:56
How can you claim he kept them up single handedly then further state you didn't see enough to see how good he actually was?

I like your efforts MK, I just don't think the knowledge is there.

21 Sep 2017 11:52:13
I'm not saying he'd suit us Ed. Every game i saw him in though he was arguably man of the match so that's all i can go off of. I agree he looks too slow for us and i only saw him 2 or 3 times so I'm certainly not going to suggest we sign him. He was a monster at set pieces though and seemed to get the best out of the useless players he had around him. As a pure defender though he looked decent. Nothing special, just decent. If he signed for us he'd just be another stop gap so I'd rather we wait anyway.

I was just surprised he didn't have a club. He'd suit a team like West Brom, Palace, Huddersfield etc. If he has a cruciate injury though, that explains it.

Smplfc, i can only judge what i saw. I watched Sunderland with and without him that season and they were a completely different side. Maybe I've confused the impact of Kirchoff, with the impact of Allardyce. But those two coming in definitely coincided with Sunderland becoming much harder to beat and a much more solid looking unit. Then when they didn't have him last season they were back to being an flaccid bunch of strangers. Again, could've been Allardyce being gone too though.

Unfair to suggest I've not got any knowledge though when all I've done is call a player I've watched a few times decent. Hardly gone over board with the praise have i 😂 although i have since noticed i missed an almost out of my original post. It should've read "almost single handedly" so perhaps that is why people are jumping down my throat for daring to suggest Kirchoff is a mid table Premier League player 🙄 Khazri, Kirchoff and Kone changed their season i thought. I mean you can disagree but when they signed Sunderland looked doomed to go down, but their fortunes were completely changed. You are all so quick to claim that you can't make a silk purse from a sows ear when i defend our players, so you can't then in the same breath say that Sunderland staying up was 100% down to Allardyce. He clearly added players who could make the difference, but that is my point. Kirchoff was part of the change that made that difference.

Anyway, feel like we're splittng hairs over terminology, my choice of cliché phrase (which has seemingly been taken way too literally), and people are perhaps jumping to the conclusion that i think he'd be a good signing for us. I'd still be surprised if Kirchoff struggles to find a mid table top flight club once he's fit. Be that in England or back in Germany the bloke is clearly a decent player. From a Liverpool perspective i appreciate he's not good enough, but for a team dwelling at the bottom struggling to keep out goals he would be seen as a big step up in defensive quality. Horses for courses mate, you can't view everything from Liverpool's world or else we are saying that a good 95% of pro footballers are terrible! It's all relative 😉.

21 Sep 2017 17:58:03
You have also taken my point out of context mate.

My point isn't your end assessment on the player, it's the fact that you made the asssessment and then when Ed disagreed you stated that you had only actually watched him "2 or 3 times". Not once did I say I don't rate the player or it was all down to big Sam, nor am I pushing something down your throats for having an opinion.

I actually agree with your initial statement. I disagree with eds views and although Sam definitely signed players to pay to his strength, he was one that looked like he had a bit of class about him.

My point is and that's all it is in my opinion, lack of experience leads you to make large opinions without backing them up properly or forming them to either agree with Ed or to disagree with the majority.

Like I said mate it wasn't a dig, all a bit of light hearted banter, but I actually rate Kirchoff!

Klopp must have forseen the scenario loosing Matip/ Lovren. I would guess he just have a lot of FAITH in Gomez. Maybe WE should support this?
I really really like Gomez. He's got pace, he's calm, he has ability on the ball. He may lack a bit of rutine, and some belief in himself. Maybe both Klopp and me would have chosen to ease the "kid" in over the season, but HEY, he might grab the PL by the balls, in september!

Info from Jason Steele is that his good friend Butland has his eye set on a move to LFC.

Personally think it's unrealistic without moving on a couple of players and maybe hampering development for some. Would also be a very costly transfer to conclude as can't see Stoke wanting to let go easily if at all.

19 Sep 2017 02:41:21
It is sort of a compliment to have big teams interested in our players, however I do hope that there's no release clause in Mane's contract. Personally, I don't think Mane will leave us 'yet' as I'm pretty sure he had a part to play in the Keita deal and would love to play alongside him.

However, if we continue to under achieve, then there's every possibility that players will lose faith and want to seek glory elsewhere. We really need to show improvement this season and hopefully win something to convince our top players to stay put.

It is easier said than done, but first we need to sort out our defense.

Agree1 0Disagree

19 Sep 2017 05:55:32
If we are mid table come December klopp will be under pressure. Don't want to see that and think we will be sitting just outside of top 4 but the lack of ability to set a team up to defend will inevitably result in the fans and media questioning whether klopp can take Liverpool to where they should be. Not just about buying players this is about setting up a team. I hope it starts to come together as I think he is great but the lack of improvement defensively is concerning.

Agree1 0Disagree

19 Sep 2017 06:41:48
I would expect that before the going to be sacked stuff started, if Klopp is still saying he can't find better defenders to work his system he will be told to change the system and get in defenders that are better in a different style of play. Plus you'd think some of that pressure will come onto the scouting and coaching structure as well. They have invested a lot of money in Klopp and if they weren't happy I can't see a deal like the Keita one being sanctioned.

Agree1 0Disagree

19 Sep 2017 08:22:06
It takes time to build a title winning team. I'm not talking about a freak season like Leicester then going back to mid table obscurity.
I'm talking about a team that can consistently challenge on all fronts year in year out. We don't have the money of city where we can just go out and throw unlimited amounts of money at it so when you make that next CB signing it has to be the one that you think will be a mainstay for years to come. Not just a stop gap that might get you through a season and appease idiotic fans that can't see past the end of their own nose.
Yes we have defensive issues and it's infuriating at times but for god's sake give him time to sort it out instead of this pathetic talk of him leaving already! We have a team that with the right couple of additions could really do something give Klopp the time to get the right men in it's not bloody football manager!

You honestly thought Milner wouldn't get "dumped" this season? We are overloaded in midfield and out wide so a squad player role was the best he could have hoped for this season. Don't be surprised if he leaves in January due to lack of game time. Jack of all trades but master of none is our James Milner.

Agree2 1Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I think people forget how bad he was after his initial good start. He offered nothing going forward and was all over the place defensively as teams targeted him. He was an excellent stop gap emergency left back, but that is all.}

16 Sep 2017 01:50:42
Yes Harry, Milner is still streets ahead of "an in form Moreno"

Agree2 12Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I disagree, go back and watch his games again, he was caught out of position, just like Moreno, but offered nothing going forward and lacked the pace to get back in. Ok Moreno makes rash tackles, but at least he is getting back to affect the play, Milner was just getting left stranded, even though he was not going forward as far or as much. I like Milner, he has a fantastic attitude and was a great emergency left back, but he should only ever play there again in a major injury crisis.}

16 Sep 2017 01:58:09
I think that's a bit unfair in Moreno. His attacking play has improved no end and whilst defensively he's not solid he is clearly making an effort to curb the rash diving in which has got him in trouble previously. He has has visibly started to learn about staying on his feet and goal side, and he knows that if he let's his current standards slip, Robertson comes straight into his place.

Agree10 3Disagree

16 Sep 2017 04:26:12
We have Moreno, Robertson, TAA and Gomez who can play much better than Milner at full back. Please stop putting Milner's name into the hat. He is ok to play in cup games and for seeing out games, that's it.

16 Sep 2017 04:57:24
Too many people on this page play favourites, Moreno has been better than usual of late and Bette ThTs. Milner last year (no offence to Milner he did an admirable job! ) but lovren/ insert keeper here/ Moreno get the blame (sometimes rightly so) yet others have bad games and have excuses made, 'hendo', matip, even firmino at times get a free pass! Firmino isn't a striker but does well I creating space for mane and salah, so now mane is absent should we omit roberto for an out and out striker? Shall we kick out an averge Henderson? No because the fans like them?

Agree1 4Disagree

16 Sep 2017 08:07:23
Hendo has been average at best this season but was quality last season and we really missed him when not playing. I think he has earnt a little grace.
Firmino is a great player and although not a natural striker he fits perfectly into our system especially now we have Salah, he gives 100% every game and doesn't get flack because he doesn't deserve it.
I agree with you regarding Matip, but I think the reasoning is that people tend to think it's Lovren bringing out the worst in him, to be fair it could be the other way round as Lovren has looked worse since being paired with Matip, as another poster said he seemed to be forming a decent partnership with Sakho.

16 Sep 2017 08:23:44
I don't really rate Moreno but he has been a little better, his link up play is starting to come through and did well for our first goal on Wednesday.

Maybe Andy Robertson will get a chance today against Burnley. Tricky game today chaps, Id like to Couthino start, him and Salah seemed to have an understanding in pre season so it'll be interesting to see how they link up today, should they both start.

Agree, really want to see Robertson play more - mom on debut in a position we don't know who our best is. Milner agreed to play there for the season but it was known he doesn't want to play defence. Assume that's why he's not featured there. Love Moreno as shows he wants to Play for us when I watch him I'm always hoping he'll be good but again he's not got goal side and not stopped an important goal and also against hoffenheimn 2nd leg the goal from his side he could have easily defended if he was simply aware of who was around him - winning games is more important and he does not seem able to change that aspect of his game, so frustrating.

I know Robbie hit the post with the penalty, but in match changing situations like that, it would have been great to have Milner on the pitch to step up,
