Have liverpool ever looked at Augsburg keeper hitz, he has looked good in both games and I have just read he has been voted best keeper in Germany at the moment.

An average GK plays decent against us and now we should go sign him. It is with such a myopic approaches that got us to sign Bogdan and Benteke. How's that working out so far?

Spot on Ohio.

It's the "Mortem Gamst Pederson theory"

Has he been voted best keeper in Germany? What about Neuer?
Not saying your wrong, but hasn't Neuer been regarded worlds best?
Anyway, I assume original poster is asking if we have scouted him previously.

Spot on, Ron. Bazaar, LFC didn't even know where Augsburg was on the German map until Emre Can showed it to his team mates. So how could we have scouted a player at a club many at the club couldn't find on the map?

We signed Matip and he got into team of the season in the Bundesliga!

OP is right, Neuer doesn't have to do a lot in the Bundesliga so sometimes doesn't get the awards.

The commentator mentioned in both legs that hitz had been voted best keeper in bundesliga this season. Who casted the botes he didn't say but he certainly made a point to bring it up both games.

I thought our poor finishing/ crossing made him look good in the Europa league games.
Whoever replaces Migs needs a long track record of being a good keeper IMO, not someone currently riding the crest of a wave.

Fraser Forster for me Ron.
Great rapport with Southampton now having blown a shed load of money on the average players, so perhaps this time we might get one of their decent ones.

{Ed001's Note - have you watched Forster? Flaps at crosses and lets in soft shots. Another dodgy keeper being made to look good by a solid team system in front of him.}

So generally looking at it, because he doesn't play for a team you have heard of, and probably never watched until these two legs, he is no good, typical we should sign big name player comment, if your playing well in any league, especially top leagues then teams will monitor players regardless of who they play for, imo he looked commanding in his box, made good saves, I'm not saying we should go and buy him on two games but if he is regarded as best in their league atm, then should we not watching?

Well we probably are watching, I know 40 odd thousand who watched him the other night.

What I saw was different to you. He made 1 good reflex save from Sturridge at his near post.
All the other saves were bog standard but you will have noticed we only had 6 shots on target and scored one.

I did not see a keeper commanding his box. Mignolet commanded his box more. All the high balls he took he had zero pressure on him from our forwards and he literally only had to put his hands in the air and the ball went straight in.
Mignolet was more commanding, I remember 1 punch through a crowd of players and coming out to a strikers feet on the edge of the area.
He might be a great keeper but based on the game I was at and the other one in Germany, he was nothing to write home about and did not outshine Mignolet.

Boys why don't we just say he looked good against us. Which he did. He has good reviews and a bit of hype. Then go and watch him a few times and make a decision yourself.

Then bring it back to the table. He certainly has potential but I like real leadership in my goalkeepers on top of all the abilities required. That is what we need in our next keeper.

He's coming up 29 which is older than someone with potential. Frankly we should be looking at the likes of ter Stegen, Karius, Butland and Leno.

What is this nonsense about scouting players who many didn't know existed and just because they had a decent game, mostly making routine saves against us, should be scouted? Is that not how we signed Bogdan for the calimity he is now known to be to point of calling back Ward from a very productive loan or Benteke because he always did well vs us without actually studying if he fits the way we play? Let it go, pls. The guy had a decent game, nothing more and No, he's not good enough for us. If he's that average at 29, then there's no way he can get better.

LFC together, he didn't command anything and has no potential nor upside to improving due to his age. Our poor delivery at set pieces made him look good along with our poor finishing. There are many other gk's out there ten times better than him. I'm not even a scout and I can name a few because I actually watch other leagues and other players. The scouts need to actually go do their jobs and due diligence instead of showing laziness and signing players only because they played a good game vs us. Also, the fans need to get off this MOTD fever and keep things in perspective.

I'm confused here, do we want an experienced keeper or "potential", ideally I prefer experienced, but not someone who sits on Barcelona, Chelsea's bench keeping it warm, but someone who plays regular, and plays well, by the way who are these keepers you say are good enough?

The ones I would hope we avoid are Sirigu and Begovic. No thanks, no thanks at all.

We should be more worried about shots at goal than a keeper if as Ron Keague says we only had six shots against Augsburg and we only had two shoots against man city that is worrying and needs the utmost attention. If you can't score goals then the pressure will be on the rest of the team and you will concede goals so there will be more pressure on the keeper so to sort out one problem we must address the other problem and very soon.
