Hi eds, just seen all this talk of coutinho and people saying he's world class. The reality is that the kid is a one in six player and isn't consistent enough to be called world class. I'm not saying get rid but what I am thinking is if an offer of 50 million came in surely Liverpool would find it hard to turn down for a player that performs once a month at the most. Don't get me wrong he's a great footballer and would rather him stay but he's not consistent enough at the moment.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what a "one in six" player is and the term "world class" is subjective and is way over used.}

Does 50m 80m 100m even mean anything to you? As a fan I don't want to see our club selling one of our best player at any price.

We will never be able to buy ready made superstars. We will only have top level players by developing them. However, we are able to pay superstar wages so we should do everything we can to hold onto the ones we are lucky/ clever enough to have.

@Henlow Red

Why do fans like you obsess over the money? What good is a £50m sale to you, surely you want to keep all of our best players? The FIFA generation I think it's been called.

Remember when we got £65 million or whatever it was for Suarez, and he was a 6 month player with bans each year, done really well with that money didn't we, imagine Suarez working under Klopp with his work rate etc, now that would be frightening - a lot more exciting than £65 million in the bank to spend.

He's not world class . But some of his goals are world class and he's are best player . 50 mil are you having a joke.

Nobody wants to see Coutinho leave, unfortunately though not many football club owners are devoted fans and if they want to accept a bid for him then not a lot we can do.

Some crazy people on here.

Football is a business

Clubs have. more pulling power than Liverpool. it's called money, which in this case, backs up the case to sell at the right price, as we need money.

Continue isn't indispensable.

What do you all define as World Class? In my book World Class is a league of players who are one of the very very best in their position in the entire world.
Ronaldo, Messi, Bale, Lahm, Neuer, Lewandowski are all World Class.
Is Coutinho quite in their bracket? No. Is he on par with the likes of Rakitic, Hazard and David Silva in the bracket behind? Yes.
His ability to play quick and intricate passes to unlock a defense is right up there.
Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid.
Coutinho is a different kind of fish / player to most of those listed. His skill is in linking play between midfield and attack, then just helping out with a couple of goals. Does he do that? Yes, and he is one of the best at it, and in the Spanish league could do some serious damage.

Love nor money can replace a player who fits into a system like that, but if he wants to go there is little a club can do these days. Life goes on, let's just wait and see.

You're missing the point Davey.

What I'm saying is WHY do fans want him to go? Why are fans getting turned on by the thought of a £50m sale? What's exciting about the club having more millions in the pocket?

Are you accountants or football fans? I'd rather have great players doing well for the team and the club being successful than having more money in the bank.

Then again, I actually love the football side of the game; I swear most people these days are more bothered about the transfer windows for gods sake.

Why complicate things with fish AA?
As for Codhinio, he's not the Sole of the club, and we won't flounder without him but he is well worth his plaice in the team and is integrated into the grouper well. Eel skate around opposition defenders and contribute with assists and goals. He may not swim in the same shoal as Messi etc, but he's no minnow.

To be honest I woulndn't see Bale as world class, I think couts is better.

I'm not sure anyone actually wants Coutinho to leave Puzzled Red but if the player wants to go - and he has indicated this to some of his international team mates according to the Eds - then it's up to club to get the best deal possible for them!

If you want to build a great team you need great players - Coutinho is a great player. The only thing you do by selling those sorts of players is weaken your team - we've done it far too many times in the past, I sincerley hope we don't start doing it again in future.

Obviously if Coutinho really wants to move on then we shouldn't stand in his way but, ultimately, it would be better if he stays. The lad is quality and it wouldn't exactly be easy to replace him. All these talks of Ojo replacing him are a tad premature in my opinion. The lad has a lot of potential - but he has barely had a season under his belt of Premier League football, surely a little early to be touting him as a Coutinho replacement? I mean look at Ibe - he was thought to be destined for big things but it didn't work out.

It would be better to hang onto Coutinho for at least another season (i. e. 17/ 18) and ideally two more. We'd know if Ojo was the real deal by then and Coutinho would still be young enough to join, and have success with, a team he's always dreamed of playing for (which is Barcelona if my memory of what he discussed with his Brazilian teammates is accurate) .

{Ed002's Note - You are forgetting that this is the additional season that he is staying without Champions League football.}

16.) 10 Oct 2016
10 Oct 2016 10:44:43
I understand Ed that this is an extra season he wasn't sure about taking on - I remember you alluding to this earlier this year - if we were to perform well in the league this season (top 4) then I hope it would convince him to stay on longer. Not saying he will, or i'd hold any grudge against him if he didn't, just I'd prefer him to stay rather than us sell. Of course if he's already determined to leave this season regardless of how we perform then best of luck to the lad. Do you think he is destined to leave at the end of the season irrespective of how we perform Ed?

{Ed002's Note - You are all trying to look to deeply in to this. The situation is as I have explained.}

17.) 10 Oct 2016
10 Oct 2016 14:30:57
Ed has basically said he's unlikely to move in January and at the end of the season he'll have a decision to make. No yes or no just that he will have offers on the table one of which he will consider will still be Liverpool and as others have said if we had a very good season and I would say title challenge rather than top 4 he may well see a settled Liverpool team as the best option.

18.) 10 Oct 2016
10 Oct 2016 15:14:37
I think it's pretty simple, he's not indispensable, but he's clearly one of our best players and has enormous talent and ability to go much much further in the future. Why sell him now if he's currently helping improve the team and very likely going to continue to get better?

As someone above said, have no idea why some people as so keen for the club to sell players for big money and create a hole in the team we just have to spend a fortune to fill again or risk sliding backwards (and there's always the risk of the newcomer not settling quickly or adjusting to our style of play at all) . I agree it seems to be the FIFA playstation generation, which has no bearing on reality.

Best thing Klopp did this last window was only selling players we weren't actually using, and keeping the best.

19.) 10 Oct 2016
10 Oct 2016 20:30:00
Accountant?

I'm just a realist, and I can imagine the player is also.

He will go, end of.

Accept it and enjoy the money as the grass appears greener on the other side for most players, not that it's always the case mind.

This is a Suarez scenario, OK, not as vocal as him, not yet anyway.

20.) 10 Oct 2016
10 Oct 2016 21:08:20
If Coutinho wants to go then good luck to him. He's been a great player for us, given it 100% on the pitch, never once caused us any embarrassment in or off the pitch.

I don't think he'll go in the summer, why would you leave the champions?

21.) 10 Oct 2016
10 Oct 2016 21:13:34
Daveybootle how can you say he will go? - we don't know that do we? do you? it's pure speculation at this point and far too early to talk about it to be fair, I mean we can have this conversation about the majority of our players can't we. end of the day, if he goes good luck to him, but at the moment he's a liverpool player and goingg to be until atleast summer. I'm not in any way 'in the know' but I wouldn't be surprised if we got top4 he stayed with us.

22.) 11 Oct 2016
11 Oct 2016 04:26:11
We really ought to keep our best players. Only sell if a player no longer has the desire to play for our club or if our manager thinks that he is no longer in his plan. We're trying to build a successful team under Klopp, so I do not see the logic of selling our top players and buying someone new, and we need time to train and develop them all over again. We want progress, and only with progress, we can keep our best players and attract other good players to join us.
