Yeah just for the nobs who did the crying. Karius had 5 premier league games. He has had 10 in all.

Thats how long you gave him.

Well said Ed!

Pathetic!

Spot on, Ed. I said at the time that bringing Migs back was a mistake and that he would never change BUT the moaners on here turned their backs on Karius, (a very talented GK that needs time, clearly), scapegoating him for all our issues and now that Migs, a known failure is back to his "best", they now want him back in the team. Pathetic!

I rather we go for an experienced 'keeper, someone who can really push Karius and be solid.

{Ed025's Note - im wit you AG..

Managers make mistakes, the biggest blunder Klopp made this season was to bring back Mignolet. Other than that I cannot fault him for how he has improved the club this season.

Mignolet simply should never be allowed to be first choice again. It was all fair and well that Klopp wanted to protect Karius from planks who wanted to rip Karius a knew one but it has made things even worse with the return of Mignolet who has season after season let us down and proven he is never going to be good enough. Dropping Karius would also give him no room to learn from his mistakes. Dropping Karius has made no difference.

Love Klopp, best thing which has happened to this club in ages but I will throw my toys if Mignolet starts when we match up against Spurs at Anfield.

And for heavens sake, those who believe Joe Hart should join Liverpool need to go have their heads seen to.

Experienced keeper like Begovic would have been perfect for us. Miles, trillions of them better than Mignolet. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely Chelsea would have sold him to us and they still wouldn't.

We had our chance when he was still at Stoke. Sorry state of affairs.

I think this is one of the things Klopp's got wrong. Karius wasn't ready to be first choice straight away but Klopp tried to force it and the direct result is one keeper who's confidence is shot and another who doesn't know where he stands.

Now we're out of the cups the only way Karius can get game time is if Migs is dropped, that's a dangerous prospect because if Karius does come in and messes up Klopp will look like a fool.

Migs started the season well, dropping him for an unproven youngster was a dangerous gamble that has blown up in Klopp's face.

{Ed025's Note - the problem as i see it putney is that liverpool should have got rid of the liability that is migs last summer, karius coming in was fine but it should have been as understudy to a quality experienced keeper, now i dont know whether that was down to finance or klopp but its clear to me that someone dropped the ball mate..

Ed025, I doubt it would have been down to finance as we made Mane our most expensive player ever and paid a crap load for Wijnaldum. There probably was more money to spend for Klopp. He had money to spend in January as we would have had to pay a loan fee for that striker from Madrid so do not think money would have been an issue for Klopp.

Klopp brought in two new keepers. I reckon if there was interest in Mignolet, which clearly there wasn't then he would have been off so getting rid of him is not going to be an easy task. Mignolet's new contract could have been on the hope that the club at least get back what they paid for him. Now they we are sitting with a goalkeeper which is earning a very healthy sum every week which many clubs below us would not be able to afford. Whoever decided Mignolet should get a new massive contract have really put their foot in it.

{Ed025's Note - i dont know who,s decision it was max but it was definitely a faux pas mate, i think money at the club may be a bit tighter than you think though ..

Klopp would have been given x amount. Whether he used up all of the x amount will not be known to anyone.

In the last winter window, Klopp had the chance to sign that Brazilian guy who's name escapes me and it would not have cost the club a few pennies. The club will make money available if Klopp wants a player.

Just go back and have a look at how much Rodgers spent in his time at Liverpool. Sure, we are not in the League of UTD when it comes to spending power but LFC have spent mountain loads of cash on transfers over the seasons. The only problem is that all that money which was spent, went down the drain.

We are up there with the biggest spenders. Fact is we have spent on average more than Arsenal season after season, something wich Ed002 can correct me if I am wrong. Money has been no issue for any of our managers. Being a manager for Liverpool, it is like being a kid in a candy shop with money seeping out of your pockets. That is how Liverpool's transfer business has been conducted going back many, many seasons now.

{Ed001's Note - was Teixeira the Brazilian?}

Hi Eds.
Maybe Klopp withdrew Karius for his long time benefit?

Migs is definitely not the answer and never was but surely there are people at the club who have noticed that even with the competition of Karius in training he is still falling way short of ok.

14.) 07 Feb 2017
07 Feb 2017 20:21:20
Have to stop you there max saying we spend a truck load of money and cash is no problem most of the signings have been made on the back of selling players and before I'm pulled up this is not a go at fsg.

15.) 07 Feb 2017
07 Feb 2017 21:50:44
Farno, that is why Ed002 keeps on refusing to discuss money with anyone.

So the club should just keep on making new signings without selling players? That is unfortunately not how it works and if you cannot understand that then there is no point in discussing finances with you. let's do it anyway though.

Just because Sterling and Suarez was sold at massive fees does not mean the club did not spend money on new players. The Suarez money was not paid over in one amount either. Barcelona basically only finished paying for Suarez this season. Liverpool had to pay for Benteke in full while waiting for their money from the Suarez deal. Is 1 + 1 too difficult for you to understand?

It is quite clear that you have absolutely no idea what you are mumbling about.

Balancing the books should be left to the accountants, not to fans who have no idea what it involves to keep the doors open of a club like Liverpool.

07 Feb 2017 20:49:03
Ed25, I can't disagree with you, I know migs isn't the answer but, for this season at least, Karius isn't either. I just hope what's happened hasn't ruined the lad.

{Ed025's Note - im sure he will be fine putney..

17.) 08 Feb 2017
08 Feb 2017 08:48:09
To be fair, max, it wasn't the few pennies on the asking price for Teixeira, but the tens of thousands more per week that he is being paid in China. He's a money grabber and therefore in the right place.

18.) 08 Feb 2017
08 Feb 2017 14:45:33
Max, its not only about money, when we sold Suarez, we got a very good price, but we never replaced him, like for like, when we sold Sterling, we again got a very good price, but once again never replaced him, so we were really short on wide players, when we did sign a quality wide man in Mane, who has been great, he went away to the AFCON and was missing for a few games, a lot of people thought that we would miss his pace big time, and drop points, why didn't Klopp see that one coming .

19.) 08 Feb 2017
08 Feb 2017 18:29:29
I'm with AG too.
Karius had his issues previously. When he was signed everyone knew this was a keeper who struggled with crosses and preferred to flap at a ball than catch it.
If the intention was to train him up and phase him into the first team then great, but he was never ready for the premier league and he got mercilessly exposed by the TV pundits.
Karius could be capable to start in the premier league in the distant future, but he's not ready yet. Any keeper in the premier league has to be able to deal with crosses and high balls and has to be able to catch.

{Ed002's Note - Karius is Liverpool's first choice keeper and the pick of Klopp. Perhaps some sort of hate campaign from the Liverpool fans on Facebook would be a good start to forcing him out - then perhaps vandalising the stadium with abuse. After all, it is the Liverpool way.}

20.) 08 Feb 2017
08 Feb 2017 18:32:07
redforever, it does not matter whether we got a good price for Suarez. We did not get full payment for Suarez the day he was sold to Barcelona. The deal was structured where Barcelona pay x amount each season of the fee that was agreed on. So whoever thought Liverpool was instantly 'richer' with the money which was paid back in portions from Barcelona need to go back to school to learn 1 + 1 = 2 because they have absolutely no idea how transfer are conducted. I am not saying I am a genius when it comes such things but at least I have done some research to understand the dynamics of how transfers laid out.

Ed002 did confirm that Klopp tried to bring in Mariano from Madrid on loan in January but the player rejected us and there would have been money made available for Klopp but Klopp made it loud and clear that he was not going to sing players fit for the bench and the players he was after, their clubs did not want to sell.

So seeing you can say 'why didn't Klopp see that one coming' then go ahead and give readers your expert view on player recruitment and name the player Klopp should have replaced Mane with for 4 weeks. Your expert view should include replacing Mane with a player on the same level as Mane or better otherwise you will be wasting your time. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Whether Karius is first choice or the chosen one or whatever term anyone wishes to use, the fact is he was not / is not ready to be a premier league goalkeeper.
You have to be able to catch a ball as a premier league keeper. No-one wants to force him out, but he is not ready.

Liverpool are the only club in the top 6 with a less than average goalkeeper. Like the guy or not, it is bleeding obvious to most football observers. Karius has potential, but if he starts again he will be exposed again and will be torn apart by the media again. He needs training up, by someone who knows how to catch a ball whilst under pressure. Until he achieves that, he will always be a below average keeper in the premier league.

Campaigns social media etc etc just distracts from the issue - he is not ready for the premier league and we can't afford to wait another 3 years like we have with Migs.
I don't care if Klopp agrees with me or not. If he doesn't then he is wrong, unfortunately.

22.) 08 Feb 2017
08 Feb 2017 19:10:07
Ron, it is quite funny. Was De Gea ready for the Premier League when UTD signed him? Claudio Bravo, a very experienced keeper has looked as lost as Mignolet.

Karius has had a hand full of games and you expect him to be on the level of Cech or Courtois?

23.) 08 Feb 2017
08 Feb 2017 19:14:06
Wasn't Klopp involved when Migs got a new long term contract?
or
Was the contract just to get any peanuts if someone buy Migs?

Knowing our situation, we should got better quality than Karius. If we had got him as an understudy then yet but he is not first choice yet. We all might given 10, 15, 20 games and he might come good but on the current evidence he looks long way off. (some of his errors were like competing with Migs saying if you can bungle I can do it even better) That is why he was correctly removed from the firing line.

If last year signing of Caulker was kind of joke, using him as a striker for last few min was ultimate.

Ward was also not handled well. (calling him from the other team when he was doing good and not giving a fair chance and then shunting him out again)

Add to it not playing with any striker and going in with same combination and style irrespective of opposition are some of the things where Klopp has come up short.

But we have to give it to him for his press conference and honesty in answering the question/ situation.

Hope he will come good on the longer run.

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Karius is the first choice keeper at Liverpool.}

Klopp clearly has a blind spot with keepers and needs help.
Anyone who gives Migs a 5yr contract extension and calls him "one of the most intelligent goalkeepers I've ever had" has a blind spot.
