What is the situation with Leiva, he was on the clubs retained list? Has he signed a new contract to be sold or is the club looking to keep him for next year's squad? Thanks Eds.

{Ed001's Note - offered one and is thinking it over.}

Hope he stays personally - good professional with lots of experience and the nearest we've got to a scouser in the first team (youngsters aside)

I think he deserves regular playing time and for that I think he has to leave. Model professional and LFC's current longest serving player.

Abs embarrassing if Lucas stays, wasn't has never been good enough and the fact bang average players like him are accepted is the reason we've one trophy in 10 years, have we learned nothing,

Port Red you are an idiot if you think Lucas shouldn't be kept on for another year. he is a model pro and never let's us down. much rather him as back up than klavan at centre half or stewart in the middle.

Shame on you talking of lucus that way. Faithful to lfc and puts 110% into every performance. Not the most creative player but does what he does well. This type of player is vital. Look at players player of year. I hope he stays, we will need experience in ucl and may need player of his ilk in the latter stages if we get that far.

Great pro, good role model, love his commitment, but we need better if we're going to get where we want to be. We were one of the best teams in the world when we had Xabi, Masch and Gerrard in the middle and sorry but there's a reason those three kept Lucas out the side.

Thanks Ed, do you know if it is a one year or multiple. Does this eliminate any other CM coming to us in the summer since our midfield is overly crowded as is.

{Ed001's Note - I don't and no.}

Fact is westwood you don't get a player of XMG's calibre to sit on your bench, so to have a model professional like Lucas on your books covers ANY of those positions WHEN one of them gets injured. Wise up. Football is a squad game.

Ww666. Xabi mash and Gerrard make 3 lucus has had some very good seasons I think 08/ 09 09/ 10 10/ 11 especially you talk like he's the reason we've struggled last ten years (although we really should have two prem titles a champions league and europa league to add to league cup. ) But he really hasn't started much in recent years. Good person to have around the club, utility man. Experience. I'm happy whatever he chooses. He earned it.

Agree with Port.
No doubt the guy has been loyal and gives 100%, but the fact is he isn't good enough to contribute to a team that wants to challenge for trophies. If he wants first team he should definitely seek a new team as he should only ever be a back up for us.

Lucas is a brilliant servant of this club, has always been a model professional and deserves all of our utmost respect. I do somewhat agree he's not first choice anymore, and nor should he be, however he does have specific uses in certain situations (defensive sub to close out a game) and he's a valuable backup should we have an injury crisis, while at the same time also being a senior pro who could be extremely valuable in terms of sheparding some of the younger team members when playing some of the cup games in mid January. He's also a support for some of the brazilian players and a great ambassador for how to behave.

I'm perfectly fine if he were to sign for another year if this is how Klopp sees his role, or to see him move to Gremio for first team football if that's what he wants. I won't necessarily be happy to see him starting every game as I think we should be aiming for the future, but let's not overlook the value he can bring to the squad and what he's done for this club.

When Lucas first arrived he was an Attacking Midfielder. We played him more defensively and for a while he struggled but cracked on.
Now, years on he is established and competent from CB right up the spine of the team. He plays that extremely disciplined role in front of our back four really well. He is likely only behind Henderson and Milner for effort.
All these naysayers seem forget that in our big games it is Lucas who is asked to mark danger men out of the game, I remember watching him stop David Silva playing for virtually an entire match.
He has never moaned about being moved around, never spoken ill of the club, he is a great professional to have around the youngsters and can cover so many central positions. He is an ideal Premiership squad player.
All these saying we need better, I don't see many of the other clubs around us with a better option to cover those positions off the bench. Chelsea have Matic and Kante but none of the others have such a devoted and enthusiastic back up.
I think he's awesome and deserves more respect than he's given.

I agree with Port on this although maybe wouldn't put it so harshly. There's no doubting his professionalism and I'm sure he's a great guy to have in and around the squad. My fear is if he stays there is a temptation to play him and he is simply not good enough and never has been.

I'm not questioning his commitment or effort, he's been a great servant yes, but is not and never was good enough, unfortunately we've been used to average players over the last 10 years and he's stood out among them, he's only 30 so why aren't top teams looking for him? Keeping him just postpones us building a proper squad to challenge with players in their proper positions, but as we've seen this week we're an utter shambles and this will probably happen, and we'll be back here talking the same crap next summer.

He's a good lad Lucas a lot forget where his proper place was on a pitch he was never a dm and Rafa made him play there! His heart is red he loves Liverpool! Let him go in peace he's loyal and deserves it!

Makes you wonder if he had scored that goal early on, the one Neville saved illegally, would things have turned our different! He deserves support for being the perfect professional at the club, but think it's time for him to move on for his own sake!

Well said an field Andy. The job lucus does is not always easy to see, marking players out of games doesn't always make it on match of the day.

Stoneage. Telling someone to wise up when giving an opinion isn't the way to get people to listen. I see the facts for what they are. He wants to play regularly, which he likely won't at our club as we (hopefully) progress. Even if we weren't progressing he isn't getting many games. And with respect to the fella he's hardly a game changer is he? Offers little consistently going forward and makes silly fouls in defence offering a opportunity for teams to exploit our biggest weakness-defending set pieces. In the end it isn't really even about Lucas. It's about progressing. We should always be looking to bring through or buy players better than what we have, and again in case your not getting it HEA A GREAT PRO but there's plenty better out there that we could sign.
