The likes of Man Utd and Arsenal were priced out of a move for Savic. What makes you think we have even an inkling of chance especially after the player just signed a new contract?

The likes of Man City and Chelsea were 'priced out' of a move for VVD. It's not just about how much money a club has, rather how much they're willing to spend on a particular player. (If we're willing to pay crazy money, when others are not, then we have a chance! )

If he's as good as eds says he is then why not overspend
The likes of Chelsea city Utd have all been there done that to build their squads. We need to catch up somehow. Then once we have a strong set of players and a hopefully consistently challenge for top 4. we can attract some of the best.
