According to the Express we have made a bid of 14,9 mio for Lyon defender Mammana.

Any truth behind this?

Also interesting fact: Mammana don't want to talk to us before the clubs made an agreement on the fee. So we can't mess this one up with tapping him up. :D.

This would make zero sense if we were indeed interested in VVD. how would anybody have a struggling 21 yr old (in a weak French league) as backup to VVD.?

Shanek: He is only 21 and transfered to Lyon last year. I wouldn't say he is a disapointment if he is not the same Class as Boateng, Ramos etc at his age. ^^

But tbh id rather get him then VVD for obvious reasons or any other defender who would cost 40/ 50+mio.

Any Ligue 1 experts on here? I haven't seen him play so i can't really say how much quality he really has.

Lets bring in some stats shall we:

Games played: 25 Games
Minutes played: 2.753 min
Min/ Game: 87 min
Injured: 80 Days/ Missed 16 Games

Everybody here is on about "he only played 17 games in the league 1 last season so he must have been struggling" but he actually missed a lot of games due to some injurys. When he played (stats for all competitions) he usually went the full distance so i don't really see where some of you get "he struggled in the league 1" from.

Crammie, they show a lot of Ligue 1 games on BT Sport, Lyon looked poor in defence, from what I remember of him he looked physically quite weak for a centre back, poor in the air and had to make a lot of recovery tackles because of a poor starting position, he was ok on the ball and relatively quick, but you could see him easily being given the once over here by the aerial bombardment teams.

If this is true I think we can assume that the vvd deal is gone, messed up. Ridiculous. If the lad is a success then brilliant but don't think he's in van dyke league. yet. at end of exciting season vvd was all but nailed on and we messed up our prime target, our record signing. I hope lad is being looked at as a last minute alternative to vvd and there is still some hope we might pinch vigil.

Sorry to repeat myself but sahko is the answer. This kid sounds very exciting and young cbs who are good at 21 become world class with right guidance. Think we should sign him.

The reason we wanted to bring another centre half in was to be more mobile and deal with aerial threats in the box, bringing in a centre half who isn't particularly physically strong or good in the air makes no sense to me, specially since he didn't set the world alight in France.
