Just heard from a reliable friend that Chelsea have been negotiating with Southampton over VD for the past few days and have agreed transfer fees. VD is happy with their contract offer but he/ his agents are holding out for Liverpool to make an offer as it would be better off for them financially. Also VD would choose Liverpool first, all things being equal, but would be happy ether way. And please no jokes about STDs.

I think LFC need to very quickly get an offer in and put the poor guy out of his misery. "He is happy with Chelsea offer but holding out for Liverpool"?

Liverpool need to do the decent thing here, we acted terribly in tapping him up, unsettled him and caused a rift with his club for both him and LFC (from what I understand) and now it's rumoured he may not even start the season with Southampton unless he moved - this is a guy who we were willing to break our transfer record for and now we are potentially screwing with his career.

This is going to look very, very bad for Liverpool if we don't do the right thing. We already have a crap reputation re transfer dealings so let's do the right thing for once and not make it worse!

If Southampton are willing to sell to Chelsea then we should put in our offer and match or offer a bit more and get the job done and everyone should have a positive result from this mess.

So you've just read the BBC gossip page yeah!

I honestly think this is what we have been waiting for! We can't make an approach after the apology but now they have agreed terms on a sale there is a better stand point to say well your now selling the player can we match the bid if he is leaving anyway? Instead of the other scenario would of seen us u turn the apology if we just made a bid by ourselves.

I would suggest that we make a better offer rather than just match it, to show some respect to Southampton.

Sounds more like an "iced" version of the BBC football gossip page!

Just asked the question and its apparently a regurgitated story from when Chelsea enquired about him earlier in the year, they was told that he was not for sale so stepped back and also wasn't impressed by the valuation from Saints. However they may again be interested if he was for sale so we better pull our finger out!

Where does he fit in at Chelsea? Does he replace Cahill, Luiz or Rudiger? He'll wait for Liverpool because he'll be a guaranteed starter week in, week out.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are after buying a centre back and have a long term interest in van Dijk. Do not discount an interest from Arsenal or Manchester City.}

Typical of us. We face going into the season with Mario being the only decent centre back available, since Lovren is a one good game in three, Klavan is just appallingly Bad and Gomez is too raw. Another season of fail awaits us.

Negotiating over VD? Thought it was just pure misfortune?
