Eds is it likely that we 'll make a move for Lucas Mooura now that PSG put him up for sale for 30 million euros?

{Ed002's Note - Lucas Moura is one of the players available to recoup the monies spent elsewhere. Obviously Liverpool has already added yet another predominently right winger and adding Moura would make zero sense. If another winger is to be looked at it really needs to be a dedicated left winger. Roma and Fenerbahce have been encouraged to talk money to PSG after enquiries were made. Interest of Arsenal, Atletico and Manchester United has waned. When asked about Liverpool, PSG responded they have not spoken to Liverpool but perhaps Wagner had. They haven't as far as I know.}

This one would actually make sense at this price IMO, here's my reasoning.

At the moment our first choice wingers are Mane and Salah, but if one gets injured or needs rotation/ sub, the best backups we have for them are either Coutinho (who ideally we have starting in midfield) or Firmino (already lined up as a starting striker) . I know we have Kent and Woodburn, but we shouldn't need to rely on players that young in a CL game for example.

For arguments sake, if Klopp is thinking Firmino, that would leave our striking department as Sturridge, Origi, Solanke and Ings. it's a deep bench and talented, but again leaves us relying on Sturridges fitness and players behind him not yet proven at the European level.

If we go for Moura however, we have a European proven player challenging for the wide positions, and can leave Coutinho in midfield and Firmino upfront, giving us a strong and really balanced squad that has completion across the entire pitch, and can handle rotation in PL and Europe without weakening the team.

I know we'd have to sell to bring someone in, and personally I'd sell Ings. He needs game time and he's going to really struggle to get it this year, and hopefully we'd get enough for him to recover a decent amount of the cost of Moura.

I hear you point on LW Ed, but Mane can play there, and pretty sure Salah could too.

Thanks Ed. I asked because he was a long time target and he was mentioned frequently here. If Klop wants to give a chance to the youth (Kent and Woodburn) that is fine. Origi can also play in the wings. But none of them of course are at Mooura's level right now and it will provide healthy competition for Mane and Salah. It is a long season ahead and we need quality and depth on the bench.

Zimbo, Lucas Moura has been inconsistent in his PSG career and even if we were interested, what then happens to our young players like Ryan Kent esp. with the fact that Cots can also play on the left depending on the opposition? This is the part you are missing in your analysis.

Good shout zimbo. Totally agree. It's clever how one player can add so much depth to squad. Salah is left footed isn't he? Surely been bought in to play there (lw) this signing would end my worries about depth. It's such a shame for ings, been waiting to see him have a decent run for years but I don't see him in front of origi or solanke. He is someone who still has a lot to offer but I'd swap him for moura all day.

Hypothetical question - if we get to a CL semi-final and Salah gets injured, would you rather have Moura or Kent in the line-up?

I've already explained why not Firmino and Coutinho as yes, they can play there but i believe our best side is with them starting in midfield and striker. Why force two changes if a winger gets injured, rather than one?

We'll I'd rather have Kent because I think Moura is a Brazilian Aaron Lennon 😂 but I can see your logic mate.

I'd be a lot happier to see Kent in there, given a chance and show what he can do.
In football, I find it far more satisfying to have a young academy lad in the team than an expensive import.

If it was CL semi and Salah was out, in sure couts would start on the left anyway - we have enough depth in the middle with can hendo gini and lallana by then.

Kent looks well worth a go as cover for Mane and Salah. He's quick, can beat his man, has a few tricks and can cross a ball.

Is this the same Frankly who thinks our season is over because we haven't signed more than three players?

thanks for a positive post frankly.

I do think this season will be a failure, we haven't improved our centre defence, our midfield is still weak and Coutinho is leaving, but there some very small positives, Kent might be one of them. But I stand by the fact that we'll win nothing and finish outside the top 4.

Fair enough MK! To be honest I don't watch PSG a lot but what I've seen he looked dangerous.

Just for clarity, I too want to see Kent get a real chance this year, as I do Gomez, TAA, Grujic, Solanke and Woodburn. I think it's critical to bring through youngsters, and play them consistently throughout the season. Kent should still have plenty of games to rotate with us being in Europe this year, and even with someone coming in we'd effectively have 4 specialist wingers for 2 positions. no worse competition we currently have in every other position.
