Paul Joyce
Lfc formally reject transfer request and insist he going nowhere.
Suppose we will See, money talks I reckon and a deal will get done.

This will drag and drag and drag. Plus if he does want to leave that will effect him till the window closes.
It will then take time to settle again and perform then it will all kick off again in Jan.

I'd pack him off 100 mill and take maybe rakitic on loan with option to buy, don't know enough about the others.
Cough up for vvd and kieta, take a shot at luan and/ or ox.

This is IF he pushes or hands in request. Shake the lads hand and wish him luck at Barca.

We don't have to sell, we are in a good position.

This has been going on for a year, he should have put in the transfer request months ago.

He needs to have a good season with the World Cup coming up.

Thank god you're not the manager, raktic is past it and 100 million isn't all that much in today's market.

Eds, may I ask what you would do in this situation as owner/ manager? Lose one of your stand out players and try and replace them with 2 weeks to go? OR keep him but maybe have a less then enthusiastic player who may cause a bit of division in the team?

{Ed002's Note - The club knew this was likely and it is never a good idea to keep a player who wants to be elsewhere. So sell.}

Ed002 normally I would agree with your comment about selling if they want out but considering that we have just short of 3 weeks to find a replacement (in a tough market) I just would sell. Plus its a World Cup year so I highly doubt he will go on strike, its too late in the day. I understand him wanting Barcelona and if it was June I would say sell. Players drive me mad! be it VVD or Courts they just signed long term contracts and enjoy the pay rise but throw their toys out when clubs ask them to respect their deals.

{Ed002's Note - I think Liverpool has had a long time to line up a replacement. They have had the red flag waving for more than a year Madchild.}

Listen I'm hoping it's not true and he stays and more importantly wants to stay.

But I'm not convinced he does and don't blame him really, it's Barca.

Till the window is closed he can and probably will push for a move this will have a negative effect on him and the squad. Force him to stay but don't expect the same player as his heads going to be all over the place, if his family wants to leave his missus will give him down the banks and those of who are married will understand that, that will just increase pressure and mess his head right up.

It would take him a little while to accept he's staying and settle again IF he does at all. I'd rather just get it over with and move quickly in the market.

Rakatic on loan provides a no risk gamble, I don't know anything about the others on offer. It's not a popular choice but we face a massive season and if rather fully committed players who are focused and ready for the challenge than having to deal with an issue such as above.

Ed 002.it's too close to end of window to allow Coutinho to leave. There are no alternatives. You said so yourself. RBL won't sell Keita.

{Ed002's Note - Macca says that Nobby Keita is back on - and I have listed alternatives. It gets a mention in the Sharkopod I did this morning.}

9.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 14:53:09
Coutinho will still be enthusiastic as ever even if transfer request is denied, as he will want to be part of the brazil world cup squad and couldn't afford to sulk. It shouldn't of got to the stage where he has had to hand in a TR. Once he informed the club of his wish to leave they should of thanked him for contributions to the club and set the price.

10.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 14:54:27
Yep, I think sell is the only option now. In fairness to Coutinho his dream has always been to play for Barcelona and, whilst at our club, he has conducted himself in an exemplary manner. Barcelona should pay through the nose for him, but I don't think we should stand in his way. It is a hammer blow, and it seriously dents any prospect we had of a title challenge, but these things happen and have been happening to us on a cyclical basis - hopefully, as the club knew this was going to happen sooner or later, we have some sort of well thought out replacement in mind.

We're into 'how much' territory. He's gone.

Hi Ed002, to add to your answer to Dean's question, what is the minimum fee you would accept? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I would rather not talk about money but if Liverpool could het £100M they should be very satisfied.}

13.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 15:05:15
Earlier in the window I said let him go, however it's too late in the day for that now, and pipco should blame Barcelona for that. It's world cup year which always strengthens a clubs hand. Keep him, watch him star in the World Cup and get more for him. Sad state of affairs all round though.

14.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 15:49:25
Very good point lfc hopeful. His price will rocket after world cup. Sell him next year as if he performs better than neymar in world cup people will be saying pipco is worth 200 mil too.

11 Aug 2017 15:50:28
If he wants to go then let him go. Apparently Klopp has said if he goes, then he goes. So if the manager is philosophical about so should we be.

Couts is a great player but I don't think he's a Suarez, who was pretty much irreplaceable. Best he go on good terms, and we not be hypocritical as fans.

Maybe we are playing the same game as RBL. It will have forced us to up our bid, and the tac may well force Barca's hand as well. It's the commercial nature of the game.

If we sign Keita, fine. If we don't, also fine. Hopefully Sturridge, Solanke, Original (& Ings, if he's not going on loan) will come good for goals, and Firmino can play a good 10 role. Mané and Salah look formidable. Lallana showed his quality last season, hopefully he will come back fighting fit.

We've not got the money of the likes of City, but I think we've made a good case we don't necessarily need it, in so much as we did well against the other top teams last season.

I look forward to this coming season. I'm not going to say "this is our year" but I think we have a lot to be positive about.

I'd like to see VVD in, as we know we have need in that area, but on other fronts I think we are mostly okay.

I don't think keita will happen.

17.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 15:25:29
The problem is Ed002 how much time do LFC need to sign a replacement? Macca says Naby Keita is back on (makes a worthy replacement for Coutinho imo) though many remain sceptical he will join LFC this summer. Sell Coutinho m=now for big money to Barcelona and FSG have their pants pulled down by Leipzig or any other club LFC go to looking for a replacement.
It seems there is no way back now for Coutinho and FSG should go to Leipzig and pay what they want for Keita (which will be a ridiculous amount) .

{Ed002's Note - I don't see NK as a PC replacement. A Max Meyer, a Diego Laxalt perhaps.}

18.) 11 Aug 2017
11 Aug 2017 16:09:22
Ed002 I completely get where you are coming from and they have probably known for at least a year that he would want to go to Barcelona and he knew there was an interest why did he sign a new 5 year contract? Would it not have been easier for him to refuse the contract and be in a better position now to push the Barcelona move?

This is what I mean by players taking the money until it doesn't suit them. I wouldn't sell just cause its too late in the day for my mind as every other player we go for once we have that type of money will double in value over night.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps but I would see the contract signed some months ago as being of any great relevance.}

Good post robboz. It's not the end of the world is it? We have lots of great players. My concern is a lack of added quality coming in and our best player going. BUT.

I think salah will get more goals than pipco got last term.

11 Aug 2017 20:10:30
A few years off and last time i think we looked at him, decided to stay in Croatia to develop some more, which i liked. Coric i think has such huge potential in him. being brutally honest if we did sell PC, Firmino can drop deeper if we have a fit striker. Solanke has looked okay, so between mane, salah, RF and solanke might do alright!

This is now a stare down btw Cou and the owners and trust me, this will not end well for him. He is dealing with American owners and trust me, they do not play games esp. if one of their players is trying to force their hand. To them, he who writes the checks, makes the rules. Hence, Cou's team was stupid to put in that TR and this will only strengthen the owners's stance and they will not sell and Cou will to them, simply get over iot. Suarez did way worse than this to get a move to Arsenal of all places and JWH crushed that crap and LS got over it. Cou will have to cos the owners won't budge.
