Does that mean we might of asked for him to be included in the deal ed?

{Ed002's Note - Quite possibly but it may not be a simple exchange.}

2.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 20:27:20
They are rare exchanges player + cash deals I no. Rakitic would need to want the move etc.

3.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 20:40:37
I actually think he would be good for us. Ok he Is getting on but you need experience to win the UCL "you can't win anything with kids" lol. We are messing up sll our transfer efforts, with a part exchange? At least we will definitely get the guy. We need someone who can spray passes and Rakitic has got that in his locker. You talk about age but what about Gary Mcallister?

{Ed001's Note - he is not a good passer, he was always a box to box midfielder who was never the best at passing, his job was getting into the box and chasing around. His legs looked gone the season before last, last season everything looked gone and he looks finished as a top flight player.}

4.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 20:51:56
Hopefully we don't fall for this if true Ed001, sounds like he's past it. I'd hope our management team wouldn't touch a player we've had no interest in previously.

5.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 20:54:13
Bloody hell ed001 I don't want him now lol.

6.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 20:50:05
Then who would tempt you of the players or their surplus list? Is it realistic to lure a player from Barcelona to Liverpool plus money?

{Ed001's Note - why would I want to? They have no strength in depth these days, avoid their cast offs.}

7.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 21:08:39
I respect your opinion ed. I saw hilm in an international and he was spraying passes but I guess that was a one off. Fare enough ed. Hope we don't get him then.
Cheers for the reply mate.

{Ed001's Note - he has never really done that when I have watched him, maybe he was overawed at Barca? Or under instruction to just keep it simple and give it to Iniesta to playmake?}

8.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 21:11:15
Sergi Roberto would be my pick. Ed002 says he is not for sale though and that they may have to use him as part of another deal.

9.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 21:14:06
Does their "worst transfer" Andre Gomez not look a decent potential exchange? Seems he's a lad who might benefit from a club like ours? I know he had a disappointing season but he's young and perhaps with the right support, he could get back his form.

10.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 21:48:36
No 2nd string cast offs straight cash only for me.

11.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 21:58:36
Gomes just looks like Wijnaldum with a bit more dribbling ability. Not really sure he'd add much.

12.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 22:00:20
Just one game, but I watched Rakitic in El Clasico on Sunday and he was absolutely dreadful. Lost the ball on a number of occasions. He's not an upgrade to what we have.

13.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 22:00:51
To be fair, if we want a McCallister type signing, Rakitic would be a good signing from what i've seen of him, but I respect Ed001's opinion and he seems convinced his legs have gone. So if we want an experienced signing, ask for Iniesta. He never had legs in the first place and makes the ball do all the work. He'd bring so much experience and composure to our midfield for the Champions league games or off the bench in games we need to keep possession in to see out a win.

14.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 22:14:08
Raktic is not the player of 3/ 4 seasons ago he's less mobile, can't pass, slow, he is literally useless rather play one of our kids there is no player in Barcelona surplus list worth having just give the cash.

15.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 22:46:08
Well said Fred. Literally what Ed just said but thanks for your opinion. Emphasis on your.

16.) 15 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 23:11:47
Don't get why anyone would think Rakitic would be a good signing? He's finished at the top level and would be another under performing big salary player we couldn't get shot of. Think Christian Poulson or Joe Cole.

17.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 00:06:47
Don't remind me of Poulsen Dennis.

18.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 00:42:53
How much wrong is there in having a Pirlo or Scholes type player in your squad? A guy to spray pinpoint passes ahead of your runners (Mane and Salah) for a change, instead of expecting them to pick up the ball at the midfield point and run up the field with it? A guy with experience who doesn't need to start every game, but when you're faced with a team with lumbering giants as part of a parked bus, maybe you can stretch out that bus and pass over it? Lallana's out for 3 months and will need at least 1 month to get match fit. It's not so far fetched to bring in Rakitic and/ or the Ox.

19.) 16 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 22:01:12
As a Croatian ed001 Rakitic was never a box to box player. schalke and sevila he was always a playmaker. they chanched his role at Barcelona and sacrificed him to get a balance to the team. he has amazing long pass and knows how to hold a ball. has an eye for goal and good shot with both legs and always scores in important matches. unfourtantly he will most likely not wanna go to England as his wife is spanish and they are happy in Spain. if English premier leaugue clubs would stop only look for pace and power and actually try to sign some maestros of midfield play maybe clubs would get into quaterfinals of CL. Look at our midfield against Hoffenhaim we couldn't control and lost the ball in a wrong places so our defence looks worse than it is. Rakitic wouldn't be my first choice but he is damn good player.

{Ed001's Note - that probably explains why he looks shot then, as his legs seem to have gone. If his role has been changed, though he did not really play as a playmaker for Sevilla either when I watched them, he might simply not have the stamina for box to box work.}

20.) 16 Aug 2017
15 Aug 2017 23:04:10
As much as I love the eds Ed1 is 100% wrong on this. Of course every player has their limitations but Rakitic is a quality player and would smash it in the premier league. If we're losing Couts he would be a more than able replacement.

{Ed001's Note - how am I 100% wrong? How on earth can anyone say that he would smash it in a league he has never played in, when he can't keep up with the pace of a league that is much slower? Some people just live in a dream world. He might well need a move to revive his career, but the English league is not the right one for him.}

21.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 01:01:46
Rakitic can't pass a ball more than five yards in a straight line to a man in the same coloured shirt and if there is a more incapable person of playing in centre midfield than Oxlade Chamberlain, I've yet to see them. Both would be huge wastes of money.

22.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 06:17:22
Rakitic os one of the most overrated players in Europe imo.

23.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 06:30:23
Why ask the eds for yheir insight and then have a go at them for being wrong? If ed01 says ratikc is finished then it's pretty much true. I haven't heard them say anything that was inaccurate.

People may laugh, but the difference between lfc and Barcelona isn't that much. We are a great little team. I thought the boys played with maturity last night and played it just right. I would actually fancy us to get a result against barca. Thought the defence was pure class last night. Again, moreno great going forward but still lacking that defensive instinct. Reminds me of a dog chasing a stick! Bless him. Matip and lovren were fantastic but it was TAA that stole the show. Can't wait for him to be moved up go midfield and I bet Clyne is hoping that too. What a player. Phil who? Dom didn't see too much of the ball but his movement was totally professional and I'm more excited about our youngsters now, more so than new signings. TAA is like a new signing anyway.

If the player is not good enough for Barcelona what makes you think they are good enough for liverpool?

If teams were put in numbered groups from 1 to 10, with Barcelona and real madrid at 10 and crawly town at 1 lfc would be at 9 right?

24.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 07:02:23
Too much risk taking cast offs in transfers, straight cash deal for Coutinho please.

25.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 07:08:25
It's been said before here and and think there is a post up now that says we should ask for iniesta as part of coutinio deal. Totally should. And why not? All their talk about couts being iniesta replacement suggests iniesta has no future at barca. Although I suspect it was lies. Just an angle to use in their approach to lfc. They just want pc coz he is good. Iniesta would be amazing and we would win the league imo if we could sign him. I wonder if Barcelona would consider it. GO FOR IT KLOPP.

FANS CALLING FOR INIESTA IN RETURN FOR COUTINIO! Let's get that ball rolling. I'm convinced the journos look on here for stories.

26.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 07:13:44
Having said that, think rahifina would be quite good. I think klopp can see the potential. He could flourish at anfield. Not popular i know but he is as good as wijnaldum imo.

27.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 07:49:10
None of Rakitic, Rafinha, Iniesta or any of the Barcelona rejects are worth accepting for various different reasons. We would be trading a Rolls Royce for a Yugo Zastava and three magic beans. You know, the way some people still hold these players in reverence suggests that they've not watched any football at all in the last two years outside of the premier league.

28.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 07:59:15
I'm with ed001 on this don't think we should be taking anyone's cast offs as part of a deal for one of the best players at the club.

29.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 09:29:12
I have to agree, I think Rakatic is weak and doesn't merit being out infront of Grujic or Woodburn, it needs to be a top top centre mid or 2 to replace Couts and a top draw centre half, we still looked very indecisive at the back, Lov and Matip were all over the place last night for a good hour and more.

30.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 10:41:06
You really need to learn the definition of Pure Class Superred, our defence was bloody awful last night!
TAA did well but screwed up for their goal, play to the whistle, its something you are taught as a kid, but he's young and inexperienced and will hopefully learn from it.
Matip saved us a couple of times with last gasp luges/ blocks but I have absolutely no idea what he was doing for their goal pirouetting and completely losing the flight of the ball.
Lovren, didn't win a single aeriel duel with Wagner, panicked whenever he was one on one with someone, got away with a few terrible clearances where he just lashed at it and played Uth onside for their goal being way too deep even though he was looking directly across at where Matip and TAA were. A truly awful player who will continue to make mistakes, make everyone around him nervous and cost us goals that make the end of a match nervous.
Moreno, I have no words to explain how poor this lad is as a defender! Paul Konchesky was better!

31.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 10:55:28
Rakatic would follow the same path as Schweinstiger in the Premier League. I would avoid him.

32.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 12:36:53
Rakitic is pants, end of. By the way, we don't want their dross.

33.) 16 Aug 2017
16 Aug 2017 14:44:01
Behave people. Iniesta is still one of best cms in the world.
