Sakho gone.

Yup. Seems to be for 26million. Good business.

26m to palace.

Not good business selling the best cb youve got, not getting a replacement and then going into the season with only 3 senior cbs which include lovern and klavan.

4.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 19:12:26
Needs to be reinvested into a cb.

5.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 19:16:15
But sahko wouldn't be picked anyway. It's 26mil or we have a player (whose wages we are paying) who is not going to get a game no matter what. I keep saying it "7 clean sheets in last 9 premiership matches" that is not a team that can't defend. We will be fine as we are, and stronger with vvd. Sahko is irrelevant. That said I think he is a decent cb.

6.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 19:17:24
He isn't the vest CB and people need to remember he was part of the poor displays.

7.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 19:16:30
If you think Sakho is our best centre back you know diddly squat. His behaviour off the pitch has been unprofessional and his play on the pitch erratic to say the least. We have four centre backs not three.

31 Aug 2017 19:18:55
The man is an idiot.
Having a guy like that in the dressing room is not worth the aggro.
Klopp is manager just back him why dontya.

31 Aug 2017 19:21:19
Pakred, you need to see it that he was nothing more than a burden on our wage bill. Its been a long time since Klipperty made it very clear he wouldn't play for Liverpool again under any circumstances so in no way could he be counted as one of our CB never mind our best. I agree he has skill and sad it couldn't be worked out but that ship sailed many many months ago.
For the best I think as clearly he has attitude and behavioural issues and JK has a good squad atmosphere and team spirit at the moment and we don't need what he brought, so I agree with JK and as much as I rate him as a CB glad to finally see the back of him.

10.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 19:23:02
And he fell foul of Klopp and others at the club with his disrespectful and disruptive behaviour.
Well rid.

11.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 19:31:27
He was head and shoulders above them all. Wasn't afraid of a challenge and could head the ball properly.

Massive shame how his LFC career panned out.

31 Aug 2017 19:33:15
Good stuff. Another £26 mill to balance the books. Let's hope this keeps the freekicks and corners from blasting into the back of the net!

31 Aug 2017 19:49:17
Getting a replacement for a player who has not played for us in how long? Klopp wants Van Dijk or a top quality cb if one were available who would improve our starting 11 considerably. If he can't get him we can't just buy someone no better than lovren. For instance the desperation has made people on here think Johnny Evans should be bought. Maybe the supposed interest of other top teams is making some think maybe he is world class but had we made him a target at the start of the window there would have been an uproar.

'he can head the ball properly'

i really disagree, his heading is poor. he wins the ball bt barely directs or gets power into it.

15.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 20:13:37
I really don't understand the failure to see that Sakho played in the bad patches of games, isn't noticeably better than Matip who is the best CB and has a disruptive attitude that undermines the manager and the squad. What of any of that makes it a bad deal to sell a player that is those things and other teams aren't queuing up to buy. If he was that good City would be chasing him and not Evans. They aren't and two teams from the relegation end of the table are the ones who want him.

16.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 20:23:07
After gomez lovren matip klavan I can't even think of a cb in u23s who could step up, so many games up til january bit of a gamble this I must say!

17.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 20:30:44
I agree Gallstones, only 1 can think of is Can, if we are desperate.

We really are risking it with such a thin backline.

*Hailstones

Sorry.

19.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 20:54:41
Pakred how is he our best CB?
A few last ditch tackles resulting from his own poor positioning does not a good defender make.

How we found a team willing to spend more than what we paid for him is a mystery to me and shows how inflated the market is!

Good luck to him but won't be missed.

I wouldn't be surprised if liverpool pulled a strange one out of the hat this evening in terms of a cb. Not getting vvd but we will in the end. January or next year. Unless he goes to arsenal or chelsea which wouldn't totally surprise me. I think 4 cbs, with one being quite young and another not proving that great, we are a little thin there. An injury and a suspension and we are in trouble. I reckon we'll grab someone on a year loan perhaps or someone old but good ish. To fill the numbers.

We've signed some very good players this year and I've thought all summer that keeping pipco could be our biggest success. It looks like it's happening. Let's forget about any possible disruption to the squad and remember how good the lad is and feel pleased he will be on our team this season.

21.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 21:15:29
Hailstones, rennie yous do know we only play with 2 cbs. As Eds have said many times if we were to sign a cb it would more thand likely mean one was going out. Likely meaning the end of gomez chances. He may have even been allowed to go on loan had he not showed Klopp signs that he is going to be a good option as backup across the back 4.

22.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 21:30:29
Superred, how is keeping a player who has said that he doesn't want to be selected or picked in the champions league squad a positive thing?

23.) 31 Aug 2017
31 Aug 2017 21:37:48
Kloppshop I understand what you are saying about 2 at the back but think back to last season. Matip is injury prone, Gomez is unproven. We are an injury or 2 away from no one else left to support.
On the plus side our front 3 is awesome and will terrorise teams all season.

24.) 01 Sep 2017
01 Sep 2017 01:09:34
Rennie. True but isn't every team?
I'm not sure they are injury prone or just got a few unfortunate knocks last year. 4 cbs should be enough. It's the quality of these that is our only problem.

Sakho was unprofessional, but coutinho has been unprofessional too, to an even worse extent you could argue, but yet one will be given a second chance, and the other not even allowed near the squad and now sold, doesn't look great setting double standards like that no matter who it is.

26.) 01 Sep 2017

worminator one of those is a world class player and the other is a decent but not great EPL player who has acted like a tool in the past as well. IF (and it is still a big IF) Coutinho gets a second chance that might be the difference. Having said that, considering how firm Klopp was over Sakho and that statements on here by reliable people (e. g. Eds) suggest that Klopp has had enough of him, then I wouldn't be surprised if Coutinho is ostracised as well. If the club could make the bids it did, without selling Coutinho, then the money isn't at issue, so they can probably afford to take a stance and say he's going to rot until he does something major to make up for it, or rot generally, or be sold when it suits the club, etc. Right now, if the window closes tonight and he isn't in Spain, then the stronger position would seem to lie more with the club no matter how good the player is. Personally I'm glad the club stood by the manager on Sakho. Can you imagine the club backing any player if they'd done that to Dalglish or Paisley?
