Prior warning this is not a dig but under FSG we don't tend to spend big unless we sell big first or know we are selling big, this is simply based on previous windows and seasons. I'd love us to keep our best players and spend big but I can simply see us adding Keita (already purchased) and someone like Meyer on a free in the summer.

The players who are reported to want a move from us or who we may move on are not going to bring in big transfer fees (Lallana, Can, Milner, Mignolet, Ward, Moreno, 1 of the CB's etc) . Our big players are the front 3 and we need to hold on to them with dear life. If Klopps budget isn't big then he will simply have to box clever in the window. However this is just my opinion and time will tell in the summer.

We sold Coutinho without replacing him. Surely there is still some in the kitty from that deal.

Jayden we sold big because the player wanted to leave the club.

FSG keep spending money yet people keep questioning them.

My original post was actually meant to be in reply to a comment about spending big in the summer on the banter page. Not sure how I've managed to get it as a stand alone comment. Anyway like I said it's not a dig but it's been proven over a number of seasons be it Torres, Luis, Sterling or Coutinho we have only spent big when we have sold big. Hopefully this window may be totally different.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has always spent money. They are doing well. Blitzing money they dont have on players the fans want does not help. Tinkering and gently improving does. Sorry if it pisses you off that there is not enough money spent.}

{Ed002's Note - Regardless, clubs need to be fiscally astute. This is not a "we spent more than you" playground spat. Liverpool are spending money, the players are doing just great, Salah is having the season of his life which I doubt will ever be repeated. The sensible approach now is to tinker to improve - you want to rip the heart out, spend a bunch and start again, expect the word "transition" to be back in fashion.}

Personally if we sell a player who doesn't want to be here for a player who does and who improves the team at the same time, then I don't care if the net spend is zero (which is a Murphy anyway because of agents fees etc)
I want to see that the club is improving whilst not getting to the point where we become a Leeds and are placed in administration.

You have to see things in at least a mid-term perspective (if not the long term), and also in relative terms. We started with FSG with Roy Hodgson and his "wonder buys" and the summer where the highest we could aspire to buy was a Clint Dempsey. How far ahead have we come now? Almost every top player is linked with us at some point (click bait or not) whereas in the past, nobody would even bother. Sure the league's increasing financial success (television deal) pushed everyone forward, but you still can't forget FSG's financial commitment to the club in difficult times in the past. Nothing wrong with selling before buying. That's how you run a business. Otherwise, you're basically endorsing the spending money you don't have.

A players value is not always reflected in his price, but in how he fits into our team.
We spend big if we need to, but won't go buy a £60m player just for the sake of it, we pay what is needed for the player we want.
VVD cost £75m+ but we wanted him so we paid it, just as we wanted Matip and got him on a free.
The transfer fee should not be the important bit, as it is so far from what any of the Joe Bloggs public will ever understand or deal with because of the intricacies of deals. Should all just be undisclosed in my opinion, then fans can focus on the player instead of the fee.

Ed02 apologies but I think my comment is being taken a little bit out of contence. My original post was a simple reply to a comment saying who would we buy if we had 200 mill to spend in the summer. My comment was never meant as criticism towards owners or our spending and I totally agree with you on the sensible approach and tinker to improve rather than just spend for the sake of it.

{Ed002's Note - OK Jayden, but everyone is getting their way - the owners are going to try and buy the league and Klopp's comments about npt needing to spend and doing it through training are all history. Debt is increasinging so the fans will be happy.}

Unfortunately buying the league has been part and parcel since the birth of the the Premier league.

I actually think the fact we are not buying for the sake of it is the reason why we are starting to see a good team. Far too often in the past we’ve bought quantity over quality.

For me this is the way forward.

In the clubs latest accounts ed02, they said the club made a profit of 39million, I know you don't talk money and I don't get involved in the financials myself, but how does our debt increase if we're making more of a profit, thanks,

{Ed002's Note - You should read the accounts.

Drogie
The league has always been bought- even before the PL.
Look at a list of teams who won the league in the decade leading up to PL inception.

In each of those squads- absolute minority would come through a youth system.

Ok- the amounts spent were vastly different- but the fact is majority of players were bought.

Out of our last title winning squad we had 4 players who started their Pro careers at LFC- Ablett, Watson, Magilton and Marsh.
