Massive kudos to Emre Can for turning down an invite to give Turkish premier Erdogan a PR boost. Good on you Emre. 👍🏽.

That is cos he is Kurdish and not turkish. This is the same for Ozil, Gundogan, Nuri Sahin and many many more
Kurds in turky were not even allowed to say they were Kurdish, speak the language or celebrate the culture until about 13 years ago.

Even though most live in Germany, they still fear retaliation for them and their families back in turky.

Most Kurdish players who play for turky play out of fear for them not choice.

This has always been the case so not an issue connected to erdogan, but systematic practice by turkish government and the turkish culture.

Seosamh1990. I share your sentiment and apologies to you and any others who may have been put off my comment/ reply.

But football was long ago politicised.

It is a shame becuse it is a great sport/ activity which can bring all sorts of people together and bond.
One of the easiest ways to break down barriers amongst other positive attributes it has.

Politics is everywhere Seosamh, and it is important as it shapes our lives to an extent. If you don't want to discuss it fine, but don't try and shut other people down.

Thanks Redkurd. It’s good to be informed of these things.

Yup you’re right, they did Something Red.
They met at 4 seasons hotel in London along with Cenk Tosun. No one looked like they were forced to stand there and all of them had a smile on their face. Most Kurdish players playing for turkey do not play out of fear what a load of bull lol. If you want to spread fake bad news about Turkish people go to the politics page rather then come here and lie just to get people against Turkish people. By the way Kurds were ALLOWED to say they were Kurdish so long as they went by the rules of the country like everyone else and not want Turkey attacked by the PKK a terrorist group, showing any support to
A terrorist group that has been aganst and attacked your country for many years is obviously not be greeted with a warm welcome.
Politics ain’t of this page tho. Peace love and football ✌🏼.

Point as to why politics are not welcome is you should never believe what the media tells you. Relating to football in a way if we signed every player the media said then we would have enough players to fill 20 squads and compete in our own league lol.

Gubdogan wore a printed shirt that read 'For my president' or something. German FA were livid.

{Ed001's Note - him, Ozil and Tosun gave Erdogan signed shirts.}

This is not a political page folks and media is full of crap these days.
Red Kurd mate, your info is completely false though. That is just Emre Can's political preference, nothing sort of racial at all.

As RichieTheRed says he is not Kurdish and neither are any of the players you mentioned: Özil has claimed those making claims of his heritage are wrong and his ancestors hail from Devrek: Gündoğan's family hails from Balikesir, and ; Şahin is also straight-forwardly of Turkish parentage. THEY ARE ALL GERMAN! It is unfair of you Red Kurd to spread a political agenda by using this situation. much like despotic Erdoğan used the situation to electioneer! I can understand why Germany have an issue with the footballers taking a photo such as they did. I do not like Erdoğan and I'm sure many people do not either. AND for your information many MANY people stand for freedom and democratic values in Turkey that have been lost under Erdoğan and a whole host of them are not Kurdish. You are tarring all Turks with the same brush you suggest Erdoğan is tarring Kurds. You are right however. football has been politicized for a long time. even Hitler used the draw of the game and Mussolini fixed the world cup of 1934 and 1938 even though he hated football. Let's just hope FIFA do not grant a world cup to Turkey and all should be well.

That's correct, Alsky123. I completely agree with your sentiments.
This definitely isn't a political page, Red Kurd, so leave it out, and stop spreading this nonsense! The majority of Kurds living in Turkey get along well with locals.

Peace, love and football.
Champions League final coming up and can't come soon enough. Here's to No.6. YNWA.

It's too late to leave politics out of football, unfortunately.

Where do you think the money for 200 million player transfers is coming from? Ticket sales? Children buying replica shirts and footballs?

Why are PSG and City suddenly global powers in football? Because of their amazing youth academies?

Why is the World Cup in Russia next month? And in Qatar after that? On merit?

Football today is huge money, and huge money is tied to geopolitics.
