Hello Ed's i was wondering if there has been any contact with Matip about a new deal?

is it a case we have one on the table and he doesn't want to sign or we just haven't offered one yet?

cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of one being offered to him yet, I am not 100% sure on that though.}

ed001 is matip not in his last year if so the club seem to be moving abit slow on this one.

{Ed001's Note - I am sure they know what they are doing.}

Matips' contract ends next summer. I am not sure if he has an option to extend the deal by a further year, but maybe the player is waiting to see if he will be first choice while the club looking to see if Gomez can cement his place in the starting eleven, before making any decision?

Hopefully a new deal can be sorted, he was excellent alongside VVD last year.

Similar with wijnaldum I feel, the club could simply be letting these guys earn their contract, 6 months ago matip was well out of favour, can't just throw him another 4 year extension when he's only proven good enough standard for 6 months over the last 3 seasons.

Gini too has improved and proven his worth but into his late 20s the club might be wanting him to show he can keep the high level to warrant it.

We've seen with likes of lallana, sturridge that guys can have a great season but then steal wages for 3 or 4 seasons. Matip and gini probably won't have offers from more exciting squads than us right now so let them prove they are worthy of an upgraded deal, no rush on our behalf.

Origi was far off being offered a long contract a couple of months ago and with just a year left he stepped up and earned his new deal but he's still young while matip and wiji are at the stage where a 4/ 5 year contract sees them past their peak, caution and patience can't be questioned.
