Good Afternnon Ed002.

I know LFC have scouted Patson Daka in the past but is he a player who is on our forward shortlist. Can you confirm that he can play across the front three.

I realise that he is African and AFCON might be an issue but I've just looked at the qualifying tables and it would seem unlikely that Zambia are going to qualify.

Also given RBS are one of the few clubs we have a good relationship with, are there discussions for any LFC players to spend a year on loan there. I recall Andre Wisdom spent a year there not too long ago. I would personally send Paul Glatzel for a year but that is just my view obviously.

{Ed002's Note - He is used as a CF nearly every game and is not a player Liverpool have shown an interest in. If Liverpool were to look to sell Brewster he would be a decent replacement.}

The point raised by Klopp re Brewster is that goals are only one aspect of fitting into his system. Yes Brewster could be the next Fowler, but can he work like Bobby?

I think with Brewster being a youngster and not a 28yr old arguably world-class striker is an unfair comparison, and if he can make 20 appearances next season and chip in 10 goals that in my opinion would be a great first season under his belt. Focus on developing the player further down the line. I may be wrong but I think Firminos work rate comes from him being an attacking midfield converted to a ST/ CF. surely with our HG quota being an issue, players like Brewster, Jones, Williams would be gold dust and staying put.

{Ed002's Note - So Patson Daka is also a potential "world-class striker" - are there any players Liverool fans do not see as "world class"?}

I'd say most of the chelsea defence Ed's 😂😂😂😂.

Think he meant Bobby Firmino Ed2.
But understandable that you think one of us have MOTD fever.

{Ed002's Note - I would question that as well.}

There are games when Firmino fades and it needs a fresh energy and a game changer after 65 mins. Usually it’s up to Origi to score late in these games but I think it should be Brewster who is given the chance if he’s good enough and it’s at the end of the game when the other team is tired where we can use a poacher type / get in the box at all costs striker. If Klopp is not going to use him as the superb and sticks with Origi, then he should go on loan again.

Brewster has come on strong this last 12 months, he gets goals, goals win games,
I know that Origi is a fan favorite, but he is looking less likely to score,
we actually need Brewster, young and fit, will score,
I would not send him on a loan deal,
and I think that he will stay, if he can grab 10 + goals this coming season, I would be happy .

Hes off to Sheffield United for the season apparently.

I thought exactly what Klopp said when I saw Brewster at Swansea. He’s virtually anonymous until the ball goes in the box then he comes alive.
I don’t think that fits our system at all. Could come in handy if we’re banging on the door late on and need a goal be he’s nowhere near a starter for the champions of England.
A loan wouldn’t be a bad shout while he works on his all round game.

26 Aug 2020 21:05:49
My issue with that is what does Brewster learn from a loan club then? He won't be any better off when he returns next season. He will be in the same situation as being a forward who only comes alive in the box and no closer to replacing Bobby as some think.
Maybe he isn't the perfect fit to replace Bobby and the team might have to adjust the way it plays?

{Ed025's Note - or just get rid?..

10.) 26 Aug 2020
26 Aug 2020 21:50:25
Hes never going to "learn" the system away from the club. If Klopp is not prepared to integrate him into the squad/ team now then he might as well be sold. Hopefully this doesn't happen though.

26 Aug 2020 22:14:22
just putting it out there, but if Brewster is the second coming of Fowler, doesn't that make it worth adjusting the system to fit his strength? perhaps not now, but when he is integrated into the team?

12.) 26 Aug 2020
26 Aug 2020 22:24:39
I'd agree with that Faithinworks but sadly I've absolutely no control over what happens in the club.

Firmino has genuinely made sections of our fan base go mad! Learning the system? It's really not that complicated! He comes alive in the box? Maybe we need someone who comes alive in the box!

Football is a very simple game. There are only 3 things you have to do ultimately.
A) Get the ball.
B) Pass the ball.
C) Kick the ball in the net.

All this talk of false 9's, and inverted wingers, with overlapping wing backs, and deep lying playmakers etc. It's all woolly nonsense. Systems are not that rigid. No team has 2 like for like players for every position. We already change our system whenever Keita or Ox play ahead of Gini or Hendo.

Long story short, you win games if you score more goals than the opposition. Brewster is bloody good at scoring goals. Frankly i find it patronising on Klopp's behalf that people genuinely think his preferred system for the current crop of players is the only one he is capable of deploying. If he can't set up a team with an orthodox striker then i'll be dammed because League 2 managers can manage that.

26 Aug 2020 23:21:24
Brewster is a very promising 20 year who has played just 22 senior league matches in his career to date, largely due to injuries.

A full season on loan where he is first choice would be best.

Comparisons to Fowler and comments indicating he is ready to challenge Firmino are premature. People need to relax and be patient with him.

Harveys Man Bun appears to be Sam Allardyce in disguise!

27 Aug 2020 06:38:36
Thunderbird, it was actually Bill Shankly who said "Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes".

No need to complicate it with all the tactical jargon. Chris Wilder summed it up last season. He said of Liverpool:
"They won every first ball, every second ball, dropped on every second ball, ran forward and ran back, and they did that miles better than us. So when academy coaches and all this nonsense that comes out about coaching, have a little peek at Liverpool tonight"

It's not as complex as people (particularly on this site) make out. No system is so rigid that it falls apart around one player. If Klopp has built a system that doesn't work without specifically Firmino up front then that wasn't very clever.

Allardyce is actually a prime example of a manager who complicates the game and over coaches his players to a point where they cannot express themselves or think for themselves. Klopp has the balance spot on in that regard. Brewster could easily play in Firmino's place without the team collapsing, even if he isn't an identical player.

You aren't wrong HMB, football isn't as complicated as many people make it out to be.

Exactly Salah. Football's popularity is built on its simplicity. All you need to play football is 2 jumpers for goal posts, 2 people, and a tatty old football. There is no other sport that can be enjoyed so easily with such minimal equipment.

Obviously tactics and coaching have their place and can make the difference. But ultimately a manager lives and dies by his recruitment and his ability to motivate those players. If you sign good players and get them to play for you, professional footballers who have been playing in academy's since they were 6 years old can normally piece the rest of it together themselves with just a point in the right direction here and there.

Brewster is a talented player who wants to work hard and play for Liverpool. That's all there is to it. If he can't be the next Firmino, then let him be the first Brewster.

Football is a simple game to pick up and play. Having a ball and two people allows you to do that, you're right. What that has to do with the sport we watch though, I have no idea.

Get the ball, pass the ball and score. Like 5 year olds with no sense of the game but enjoyment. It's true that's all you need to play the game, but not to master it. There's 22 players on a field, seeing the game differently working under different people who see the game differently and performing for expectant fanbases who know what they want to see. Football is an incredibly in depth and complicated game if you ask me, there's so many variables from tactics, transfers, finances, mental and physical preparation, training, expectation, skill and the list goes on.

I agree the best way to get a team winning is to simplify things so everybody pulls in the same direction and is understanding of what it is they need to do but simplifying it too much discredits the sport and the work that goes into it.

I don't buy this "hes only 20 so he needs a season on loan somewhere as 1st choice" or that he's played less than 25 senior games. I hate comparing player but outside of Utd this time last season I doubt very many knew anything of Greenwood, but he clearly worked hard got his chance and took it. Why can't Brewster do that? I personally couldn't care less if he got 10 touches in 90 minutes but scored. he's a striker, scoring is his job.

22.) 27 Aug 2020
27 Aug 2020 19:36:07
@Irishman, Greenwood's competition is Daniel James. Brewster's competition isn't even comparable.

If there's a lack of quality in a position then a quality youngster has a much better chance of making the position their own than if they are backup to another top quality player.

I fully understand that there is a level of detail to certain aspects of the game Barnsey. I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing the fact that people seem to think a coach like Klopp with about 45 years experience in the game as a youth/ player/ manager, and a player like Brewster with at least 10 years behind him too, cannot adapt to a slight tweak to the style of play. People talk as though our system is a jenga tower and that taking out any block will make it crumble. The same argument comes up with Wijnaldum about how he is integral to the way we play etc.

When we beat Everton 5-2 we had Origi up front and Shaqiri on the right wing. Totally different in terms of playing style to Firmino and Salah. Yet we demolished Everton in that game. That is my point. Football is not so complex that subtle differences between players cause a whole system to fall apart.

Putting together 11 players on the pitch is not as difficult as building a suspension bridge. There is no maths or science behind it. I'm seriously worried for the future of our team if it will only work with Firmino up top because i've never seen a player exactly like him in all my life. He is genuinely unique. Klopp can and has made his past teams work with several different style strikers in several systems. So please forgive me for believing in Klopp and Brewster's ability to make it work.
