Sounds like we’ve been in talks for a while starting with us asking the conditions of any transfer from Southampton. So Romano probably just speculating for now. You throw enough mud etc etc.

How on earth is signing a Central Midfielder related in any way shape or form to Salah?! Maybe more likely we will move on other midfielders so we don't have 15 of them? Like Thiago and Fabinho f. eks.

@Jimble, I don’t think Romano does speculation. If he says we are talking to the player and the club then I would believe him. He tends to report what he has evidence of but he doesn’t add that he thinks might happen. He isn’t making any claims about Lavia signing for us, just that we are talking at this stage.

Looking at the midfielders we have:

1. Henderson (HG)
2. Thiago
3. Curtis Jones (HG)
4. Harvey Elliot (HG)
5. Stefan Bajcetic (HG)
6. Fabinho
7. Alexis Mac Allister (replacing Ox)
8. Dominik Szoboszlai (replacing Keita)

Do we really need another midfielder? A CDM will be good but someone has to go from our crop - we have too many of them unless we sell.

Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are enough to cover Thiago, Keita, and Ox do not play half the time.

Elliot and Baj aren't counted under HG quota yet they are both under 21 years old.

But I do agree that we have a bloated midfield now. We need to trim it out before we can add a few more. Personally, I would shift focus on bringing in a new LCB now.

Go gentle on me it's my first post on here.
Maybe Jurgen is looking closely at a change in style of play and team formation looking at how the new midfielder's are purported to play, more along the lines of the three consisting of a defensive midfielder, a box to box midfielder and an attacking midfielder rather than a defensive midfielder and two box to box players, maybe he's switching to a more possession based system whilst keeping the press up the pitch as well rather than the rock and roll football that the team used to play with.
Also he's just given the team a plan B whilst applying pressure to every candidate to the midfield places, play well, win or you're dropped.
I think Thiago and Fabinho will leave eventually but not this transfer window.
