Rafa - legend.

Did well at Chelsea but doubt he'll ever re-live those LFC/ Valencia days.

He spent huge amounts of money on players

Had enough time to win the league just wish we went for a better manager after him.

Rafa replaced Alonso with Lucas and then the rest is history. Aquaman was injured till October and Liverpool fell far far behind.

{Ed001's Note - that is simply not true, Lucas was never bought as a replacement for Alonso. Lucas had been there for two years at that point.}

You did not get my point Ed01. Lucas partnered Masch in the absence of Aqua man and Alonso. Rafa did not had another Deep lying Playmaker nor his new signing recovered his injury in time.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so.}

Well that's certainly the way it went. Rafa under estimated Alonso and his skills. Decided to buy an injured player when we should have challenged for that title.
He had no options other than to turn to Lucas.
He would be the only manager in the history to go on a 5 year run with only one out and out striker.
The dumb man never thought what would happen given Torres gets injured.

{Ed001's Note - you really should not get embarked on topics that you do not understand.}

Do people not remember Rafa trying to sell Alonso to raise money to buy Barry from Villa.

I do remember, and of course love Alonso as a player like we all do. However, I also remember him being pretty poor that season before he found out Rafa wanted to sell him and this seemed to push him to play even better.

Loved Rafa - imagine trying to manage in that shstorm of ownership? How hard must that have been? But then again I love counter attacking fast paced attacking and love him or hate him, Torres was absolutely sublime.

{Ed001's Note - he was injured and recovering from injury in the season before, but Rafa expected robots and couldn't handle working with a player to help him back to form. Oh and Rafa was the main problem that caused issues, he wasted millions upon millions and caused so many arguments behind the scenes before then taking it public. I love Rafa as a man, but he is useless at man management and he gets too involved in politics to concentrate on club management. He was half the man without Pako Ayesteran.}

Rafa was at the helm for some of the greatest moments I will remember and will be forever grateful for, but there were times when he was there when it was questioned if we could achieve more with another man in charge.

We had Pako attend a management and devolopment night for coaches back in 2011, the man had a special gift, his ability to get information across and make you visualise what he was talking about was amazing. At the time I was part of the devolopment setup at Adelaide Croatia Raiders (S. A state league, it's the league below the A league in Aus) and we were lucky enough to have him on the sidelines with us for a friendly and the way he read the game and could tell you what was going to happen before it did was absolutely amazing. His reading of player movement was outstanding, we had 2 of our boys picked up by Adelaide untied shortly after his visit and we all said at the time it was his influence on us as coaches and his advice and communication with these 2 is what made it happen. A man I have much respect for.
