hi eds, know its a bit random but what's your opinion on Seydou Doumbia? Good loan deal?

{Ed001's Note - personally not convinced, a loan deal really needs a player to be in straight away and making a difference from the first moment. I guess a lot comes down to if he ends up being a flop you could say it was a good choice to just have him on loan, but I just think Doumbia flatters to deceive a fair bit whenever I see him play.}

Thanks for the reply. I agree with the point that if he does flop you can alwys fall back on the fact he was only on loan. Doumbia could suceed tho i believe.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, there is something about him that worries me, not just the fact that he could potentially be a good few years older than he admits.}

He's easy about 38-40.

the old dodgy birth certificate business strikes again. did they ever sort out that player who claimed to be 18 but was closer to 38. I forget his name, think he might have played for Lazio.

{Ed001's Note - they are taking him to court now, I forget which club it was myself, but it was an Italian club.}

Ed001, as far as I could find out they were not taking the player to court, but rather were threatening legal action against the website that made the claim about him being 40.

Indeed the Italian FA cleared him of all charges. Joseph Minala is the player, in case anyone wants to do their own research.

{Ed001's Note - different player obviously. Just checked, it was AC Milan, the player is Yusupha Yaffa and is now at Duisburg. He said he was 13 when he signed, but people on his facebook said he was much older, 22 in fact. He is now facing court action by the club, if found guilty he could face more charges from Duisburg and the Italian Immigration Office.}

Damn. I thought something that bizarre would mean there would only be one incident. Clearly I was mistaken. Thanks Ed!

{Ed001's Note - the age cheating is very common, a number of African nations have been banned from youth tournaments over it. There was a very real fear that it would disrupt the Asian U23 championships recently.}
