Hi Ed2, not sure if this is something you'd like to comment on but do you think it's likely that Liverpool will sort out this Matip issue or will he have to wait until the end of AFCON?

It seems pretty clear this process was not followed. Klopp is quoted as saying "Our understanding is that Joel is retired. " - He has either officially retired, or he hasn't. There should be no grey area here. My guess/ assumption is that he hasn't officially retired, more asked not to be selected. In which case, Cameroon are entitled to dig their heels in. It's a real shame and disappointing this has been managed so poorly

My point exactly old bean. Merely a guess/ assumption on my part. If, as you say, the Secretary had informed Cameroon, the situation is clear and we could play Matip without fear of reprisals. If not, then he will not be available until the end of the tournament (+5 days)

Ed, does it matter that he was not named in the final squad? Or the fact that he initially refused the call up mean it remains an issue?
