Morning Reds,

Not really one for the Ed's as I know you guys don't like talking too much about fees (but feel free to respond! )

Just wondering what the general consensus around the forum of whether we should keep or sell Sturridge is; and if so how much the asking price should be taking into his injuries etc?

cheers!

Love him, but sell him. i personally think he's worth £50m but i think £30m would do it.

I tend to agree with you, Smurf. We certainly shouldn't take any less for Studge than we did for Benteke, as that's where the market seems to be for established EPL strikers right now. Pushing up towards £50m? That's probably a stretch, especially if Lacazette is priced at a similar sort of level (Ed002 suggested c€60m on the Rumours page) . Somewhere in between, I reckon, £30-£40m ish.

£30m?
I don't think so.

{Ed025's Note - it sounds about right to me mikey..

30mil seems reasonable to me considering injuries/ form etc. I'd probably take that as he doesn't seem to fit in to the current style unfortunately.

Sell him like I've said before he ain't clocking in at work regularly time for him to find new pastures for the good of him and the club.

Sturridge has been out for a while with a virus, now he has a hip injury, he needs a change of clubs, and treatment tables, he had one brilliant season, and scored goals for fun, but sadly, that's in the past, we need to move him on, the longer he is out, his price will drop, I would take 25 mill and bring in someone who fits Klopps way of playing .

You cannot compare others with Sturridge. Lacazzate plays a minimum 35 games a season while Sturridge plays 10 a season. No one would pay anything above £25 mill for Danny.

Reluctant sale, as I love the guy, but the head must rule the heart. £20 - £35m.

I still have hopes he'll get back in to the first team but I'm pretty sure I'm just in denial.

If he does go I hope it's to a club challenging for trophies, he's too talented to be a footnote in football history.

Put the shoe on the other foot for one second lads.

Would you pay £30m for a striker who is injured for at least 50% of your games and hasn't scored more than 10 league goals for 3 years?

Forget what he is worth. What matters is what people are willing to pay. Personally I think we will do well to fetch £20m. Current market is irrelevant. None of the top sides will want him except maybe Spurs as a reserve to Kane or Arsenal as reserve to Sanchez. Those teams have strict wage structures though and will not pay £150k a week to a back up.

Which means he will probably go down a level to a team like Stoke, West Ham, West Brom or Watford. The only way teams like that will take on wages like Sturridge's is if we agree to a cut price deal.

Sad reality is, teams do not gamble big money on players they may only have for a couple of games a month. Unless he agrees to a significant pay cut, we will need to budge on our valuation.

It is a shame Klopp doesn't see him in his plans as he still has a lot to give.

I agree mk. It's a shame klopp has given up on him as he would be a great asset against these weaker teams we struggle against . He's too good for the bench so let's cash in whilst we can.

As said, a very reluctant sale for me. I agree totally with MK, we would do well to get over 20million. I wouldn't want to pay over 20 million for a striker who has had major injury problems for the past 3 years. It was said on here maybe a year or so ago, that Studge could go the way of Jamie Redknapp, as in, once a player gets it in their head they will be injured if they sneeze let alone play, then that becomes very hard to get rid of that mindset. I feel bad for Sturridge as I do love the guy, I was chuffed when we signed him, thought he would be perfect fit for us, and for his first season he was, however it has been a nightmare for him since, i am not even sure if he has played more than 10 games in a row since his first injury. The club have been very patient with him, and given him all the time and chances to stop getting injured, but perhaps its a mental issue? I think it would be best for him to move on, get a fresh start and hopefully get back to what he does best and score goals. I think there would be a good few suitors for him in the summer, id take 20 million for him, if we can get more then perfect, but I would not be expecting more than that.

Nobody outside of China is going to pay £30m for studge sorry.
I'm his biggest fan but he's only going to be worth that fully fit and firing and he's not, hasn't for a while and unlikely to by the end of this season.

If people think they will get 25m for a player who plays 15 games a season then tthey are in LA LA Land. IMO, Studge is finished at LFC and for all paries involved, needs to go so we can all move on. As MK said, would you pay 25m for a Studge right now? NO! So why should other teams pay for a player based on what he used to be and not based on what he currently is? Think about that.
