Had his moments but soured it by the way he engineered his departure. Treated Rafa like dirt.

Decent enough left winger imo. Showed flashes of brilliance but also went missing at times.

Unbelievable debut v man united away average for the rest of his career.

Ron, Rafa treated Alonso like dirt. There have been many occasions where players and managers have gotten tangled at Liverpool and other clubs up so funny how you would want to point out something like that when the OP asked whether he was a good player or not.

Bellamy is another player who could not stand Rada because he had a school principle as a manager in Rafa i. e Bellamy's book.

Reira had the tools to become a decent player but obviously he did not want to knuckle down. Same with Ryan Babel. Managers also play a part in it whether a player will fail or succeed.

Poor player. Fell out with Rafa, Called the club a " Sinking ship". A winger without pace!

Thought he was the weakest member of our 08/ 09 squad and not really of the level we needed. I've always believed with a decent left winger we would have won the title that year.

The biggest problem I had with Riera is the amount of times he'd materialise in the center circle. He was actually half decent, if not exactly spectacular, when he stayed out wide. Rafa was never good at buying wingers.

Recently Riera said: "At Liverpool I learnt a lot from one of the best coaches I have had, Rafael Benitez, and the relationship didn’t break down, he simply couldn’t find space for me in the team anymore. "

IIRC, the Echo said something a bit different at the time, and fairly specific. And given Riera didn't sue them out of existence, one wonders what's actually true.

Still remember his goal vs Aston Villa and that Pepe Reina assist. Beauty!

max, chill out lad and wind it in.
I answered the question "had his moments".
I added that he soured it by treating the manager like dirt.

WTF has it got to do with Alonso, why did you bring him up and how did Rafa "treat him like dirt"? Rafa tried to sell Alonso because Alonso was coasting for 2 seasons - that's football! He did not mouth off about Alonso to the press like Riera did.
