CL will be make or break for Liverpool. let's face it, whichever players we scout will see clubs who qualify for CL be one step ahead of us when offering contracts to those players.

We will have to scupper up deals like Mane where we pay over the odds if we do not qualify for CL. Not saying Mane was not worth the money but he was a risk at the price we paid for him.

It is going to be like playing russian roulette again if we do not have CL football on offer.

Luckily we set ourselves up well to finish top 4 earlier in the season. Final push and beating City will take us one step closer. Fingers crossed!

It's such a shame January was that bad, because even if we had picked up one more win we would be sitting much better now. I think we need to beat city this weekend to be honest and I'm not sure it will happen.

I fully agree we won't get any first targets if we don't qualify for cl. Think we could have a strong future if we can just get that top 4 spot so we can spend and attract a bit more.

Ko lo, Liverpool will spend irrespective of whether we qualify for CL or not. No CL just sees Liverpool taking bigger risks which can come back to bite us financially.

We had a higher wage bill than City and Arsenal last season which is not a very good thing when what Liverpool spent did not add up to how Liverpool performed on the pitch. That just leads to further disaster.

What is not spend as much? If Liverpool have one of the highest wage bills in the League it means we are spending far too much without achieving success in accordance to what is being spent. Players will leave in the summer but with new additions it will see our wage bill increase even further.

There is no such thing as 'won't' spend as much when it comes to Liverpool. FSG will once again open their wallets to fund the club financially next season, just like they have all along which puts the club into further debt, debt which the club cannot afford.

For crying out loud, Ed002 has consistently spoken about FSG hanging themselves financially when it comes to Liverpool. And if you want to disagree then so be it, it will only be because you do not understand how Liverpool's finances work on a day to day basis. The club made a significant loss in the recent financials which FSG now need to fix.

Champions league does not mean you automatically sign quality players - anyone remember summer 2014?

It's about targeting the right players to fit in the team and to improve the weakest areas of the team. We need to be better at scouting, we need to be better at identifying our weaknesses.
Leicester proved you don't need Champions league to sign quality players - Kante, Mahrez.

Spot on, Max. Many complain that LFC don't spend but when you say that our wage bill is higher than City's (who spend way more than we do), they have nothing to come back with. People keep saying that FSG "won't" spend yet have no way of backing that up with real facts just personal innuendo which are not facts. I guess they must have forgotten that they dropped 300m to BR for his three years here but clearly, that's not seen as "spending enough" for some on here.

Ron, 2014 Rodgers was in charge. He did not have the credentials to replace a player like Suarez. We got Benteke instead and paid a ridiculous price for him along with making him one of our highest earning players. Firmino might have been signed under Rodgers but only because we offered way more than other teams were willing to pay. That is how Liverpool have had to conduct transfer dealings over the years by always paying over the odds as the only thing that can compensate for lack of CL football is paying over the odds to try fend of the competition.

CL does and will make a massive difference. It is not a secret that Coutinho could leave should we fail to qualify for CL. How will we replace a player of his quality if we are after a big name player who wants to play at the highest level in Europe? We cannot replace Coutinho with some unknown kid with potential. It needs to be a player which can step in straight away for Coutinho.

We are after Brandt, if we fail to qualify for CL then a team like Bayern and others who are looking to sign him will hold all the cards when offering him a contract.

The players we scout are being scouted by Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and many other teams in Europe etc etc etc so if we finish outside the top 4 then those teams will have the edge over us if they have CL football on offer.

So with no CL it is a case of how much more are we willing to pay for a player compared to offers which other teams make i. e. Firmino.

Russian Roulette = the way Liverpool have been conducting business in the transfer market for many years now. If this continues we are in for a very rocky ride. CL football will be make or break if the club does not want to make another significant loss in the next set of financials.

It's a risk buying any player.

That's why you trust your manager and his team.

At the end of the day if the transfers don't work to close the gap on your rivals then then the manager will be sacked eventually.
Every other team will be trying the same so it's easier said than done.

Especially now that even the promoted clubs can spend 20 million on a player.
There's no poor club in the Premier League.
