It seems to be a 'tug' of war in a race to sign him.

If Liverpool can 'pull this one off', then I for one would be happy.

He is prone to being 'dragged' all over the pitch though from aggressive opponents, so I'll come clean and admit that I'm reluctant we will sign him, but I'll take it on the chin if I'm wrong.

Does the word "van" mean "big" in dutch?

Not sure I'd want vd either!

I personally don't want Van Dyke for the exact reasons Davey gave. He is all over the pitch and nowhere, all at the same time. He suffers through lapses in concentration and is severely overated. We already have two CB's prone to o brain farts already in the team with Lovren and Klavan. Why would we need another one? By the way, VVD at 60m is just plain madness. He is NOT even on the same planet as Boateng, Godin, Bonucci, Khoulibaly, Manolas, Ruddiger and the list goes on and even they aren't worth 60m. Utter Madness!

What does everyone think of keane from Burnley or Gibson from Boro both look more value for money.

{Ed001's Note - Gibson yes, Keane no thanks.}

I live in Boro and a colleague I work with knows J. Woodgate. He believes a £30million offer has been made for Gibson and that team was rumoured to be West Ham. So if that was to be true I'm sure Boro will hold out for bigger bids from Man city who have interest.

Ed 1 do you not like keane bec of the United link or just don't think he's good enough?

{Ed001's Note - bit too weak defensively, I don't care who he played for in the past. Good on the ball, but he is just not a good enough defender.}

Gibson won't leave Boro for West Ham - no chance.

No. Godin is nearly 30 and you wouldn't pay more than £15 considering his age as the excuse.

No to either Gibson or Keane. Gibson has only had one season at the top and what I saw I wasn't impressed by and Keane is like Bambi on ice.

Van Dyke was great in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but I gave up masturbating over him as soon as he hit 80.

Disagree N Red; Rudiger and Koulibaly are no where near VVD's level. Honest question, who do you think is better than VVD as a CB in the PL or in Europe who we can get and will be ready to partner Matip in the CL and PL?

Ron we know Gibson won't leave for west ham but it doesn't stop them bidding. What it does though is allow Boro to know that if west ham bid £30 million they know they can get more from the bigger teams.

Baz.

AG, if you think VVD is better than Khoulibaly and Ruddiger then that is your opinion, one Conte disagrees with you. He put in a 50m bid for both of them and also wanted Bonucci as well but the price was over the top as Juve for example, wanted 65m for Bonucci. Khoulibaly rejected Chelsea and so did Rudigger. I have seen all the above play for a few years and VVD is not fit to lace their boots, that much is clear.

Harry and AG, the CB I would want? I have often said that Gibson would be my choice as he is more that good and financially than attainable as well as Nastasic from Schalke cos he is good on the ball, very good passer, has pace and he and Matip played together at CB for a few years so the understanding is already there, coupled with the fact that he has PL experience at City.

I agree with NRed
Bonucci, Godin, Boateng, Hummels, Javi Martinez (who can be a DM), Manolas, Nastasic, Varane etc.
The point is that there are a number of CBs to choose from. 60m for VVD in my opinion is ridiculous.

Better than Van Dijk? Well for a start; Matip, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Kompany, Koscielny, Mustafi, Bailly, Luiz, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Fonte, Jagielka, Gibson, Keane, Sakho, Dann, Evans etc.

But yeah, aside from that VVD is definitely worthy of the world record fee for a defender!

Honestly, there are so many better players it is ridiculous he is touted at that kind of price. I would genuinely be happier if we signed Yoshida or Stephens! At least they won't cost insane figures and are equally as good.

Real,
Agree on those names mentioned but we stand no chance of buying anyone of those names. I would take VDV over 10 Klavans or Lovrens.
