Can anyone shed some light on the Gomez situation. He played LB before he was injured and did a good job. We have Gomez, Flanno and Moreno all capable of playing in that position but not being given enough time to adapt to this team. LB doesn't win games, Mendy surely wouldn't be any better?

I have been thinking the same thing. LB is the quickest way for Gomez to be back in the first eleven (cup games, cover) . He actually was ahead of Moreno before his first injury. Paying big money for a defender is madness in my opinion. However, the manager/ coaches must see something we don't. Still, I'd rather have Gomez in there than an expensive buy.

If i'm recalling it correctly but isn't Gomez right footed? I seem to remember him having to constantly cut inside when he had that run at LB. Anyway the Lad is a cb play him there.

I wouldn't mind him being emergency cover at LB but it's clearly not his Long term position and he doesn't offer the width, pace or crossing ability to add something in Attack.

We clearly need better in that position so makes more sense to just get in a proper LB have Gomez competing and developing as the CB he is.

Gomez lost his place to Moreno before got injured.
Moreno lost his place to Milner.
Milner is not even a proper lb.
a new lb is a must to have to me.

Gomez is a CB, maybe try playing him in his rightful position and give him a chance to actually have a football career. Full back positions need upgraded and it will help in both defence and attack, more important than any attacking recruitments are. Improve the defence and the team overall will improve. New LB is priority, if required would be fine with Milner moving to RB with TAA gaining more experience, though ultimately both positions need to improve.

I can't believe people would want another make shift full back going into a new season. We are utter mediocre. Aren't we? Clubs around us are buying regular first teamers while we RW busy fishing south italian see.

He was quality defensively but he's all right foot and was clueless in the final third. Not a terrible option If we are desperate but he's definitely a centre back.

What's so wrong in getting a decent LB in and sort out our troubled position, rather than try different players in that 'could do a job' there? Milner was not too bad, but when games came thick and fast, he started to struggle, plus he's predominately right footed, so he became quite one dimensional in attack. He's back up for me (if he's OK with that) if we get the player that would hold down that position for years to come, although some of his right footed crosses were on their mark at times!
