Change of subject alert 🚨

With the focus seemingly on a cb rather than a lb what do you all think about the possibility of a 3-4-3?

Lovren Matip and a new cb at the back Henderson and coutinho in the middle with maybe TAA as a rwb and either lallana or wijnaldum as lwb (both hard working) and salah firmino and mane up too?

Any thoughts?
Personally think it might work and would help develop TAA

Cheers.

The problem is 3-4-3 relies on strong CBs and good attacking wing backs and neither of those are our particular strengths. Would only really make sense IMO if we signed a top CB and then Mendy for the LWB position.

I think the real choice should be between whether we play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, and then whether
1) we give our CBs support through the fullbacks sitting deeper (allowing midfield to push forward and the wingers creating the width upfront) or
2) allow the fullbacks to push forward and use a deep midfielder (or two) to provide cover

Part of our problem last season was we pushed both midfield and fullbacks forward at times and got caught on the break. by the end of the season though we had more balance and players were figuring out how to switch up the attack without all pouring forward at once and leaving the defence exposed.

Personally given the lack of attacking talent we currently have at FB and the relative strengths of our midfield and wingers, I'd hope we play 4-3-3.

You also need your R/ LCB's to be able to shuffle out wide to defend vs wingers one on one on the counter and none of our CB's are good enough to do that. Check out Spurs CB's Toby Eric, and Jan. They are former FB's so are used to defending vs wingers hence, they are solid in the 3-4-3 when Poch employs it. I wish our defenders could do that.
