First time poster but have been reading the site for a number of years.

Just wanted to give my opinion on the negativity regarding the potential signings of Robertson and Oxlade-Chamberlain. If you look back to the preseason of last year and look at Chelsea. Who would have thought that the signings of Marcos Alonso (former Bolton reject) and the return of Victor Moses (loan system journeyman) would go on to become key players in a title winning team.

Just shows that a different manager and a change of system can completely change a player so have fate in our signings as I'm sure both players will become great additions to our squad for the new season.

Peter B.

The difference being those were fairly bog standard players being added to a largely world class squad. What we're going in the case of Ox is adding a very mediocre player to a pretty average squad. Do you note the difference?

Agree.

Welcome mate.

Very good points there.

Klopp totally changed Lallana, he had a smashing season, It'd certainly be interesting to see how he could change Ox.

Finally a read of sense.
These linked players haven't even kicked a ball for us yet but a huge majority of posts are negative reads.

Yes we all have opinions. Let's not judge a book before we have read it guys.

Your never walk alone? Anyone still hold that?

I think you are missing the point on Ox. Robertson might prove people wrong coz we are in actual need of a LB and he ha a natural left back! I am personally not keen on the player.
Regarding Ox, it doesn't matter how good / bad the lad is in the first place. The point is we don't need another B2B midfielder. We have in abundance. He might go and become a Messi I couldn't care less!
The team need a CM who is different from what we have atm. Not adding a very similar type player.
You tell me how is Ox different from our current crop of player?
By signing OX you are not actually filling the position but adding more confusion!
If he was a Holding Mid, DM or CM ( proper ) the argument would be only about his qualities and not need!

We brought james Milner thinking exactly the same and he is now a LB!

I hope you get the point.

Klopp did not change Lallana. Lallana started pressing and his brilliant form that people mentioning came in the first 4 months of the season simply coz we had SPACE to move around the ball!

Take out SPACE to run and Lallana us still an average player who need someone behind to pick the pass!

You guys are not looking tactically about the game.

You could never change a player but only improve his attributes to suit your system and requirements.

AOX one day miraculously wouldn't become DLP or DM.
He at his best night start putting more decent crises which is what he is good at. You cannot teach a player a new thing. This is a very rare case among players!

gazza827 I've seen more than enough of Oxlade to form a fair an reasoned opinion. That is that he is a very mediocre winger. He's not a centre midfielder, contrary to his own delusions of grandeur.

Yeah alright Harry mate, let's put it simply. BR tactics was different to Klopps, is Lallana not better now then he was under BR? it's a no brainer mate, no matter how you want to look at it, he's upped Lallana's game incredibly.

You've basically said it yourself 'but only improve his attributes to suit your system and requirements' does that not say it all? The player has changed for the better due to Klopps system.

You started your post with ' Klopp did not change Lallana ' you've kind of contradicted yourself Harry there.

Totally agree If you know me. To many fans ( and I use that term loosely) get on the backs of players who haven't even signed for us yet and are yet to kick a ball in a Liverpool shirt. Just because Robertson plays For Hull who were relegated does not make him a bad player! Look at a certain player who we signed from a RELEGATED Newcastle last season fans were up in arms claiming he wasn't good enough etc. we all know how that worked out don't we? As for Ox as far as I'm concerned I will be very happy if this transfer happens. What a player to be able to bring into games! Bags of pace scores goals. okay he needs consistency but he is still only 23. Champions league experience and premier league!

Teabag

Tell me why Klopp couldn't change Lazar Markovic who in my eye is better footballer than Lallana! Or Jordan Ibe! There is a long list of players Klopp simply couldn't IMPROVE.

Take out Coutinho and Lallana is a flat two footed average player who could run all day, win the ball back and pass it a better player!

This is just a myth you change the entire game style of a player! You just at the very best improve their existing attributes.

Salah will bench Lallana.

Hendos heel, if you call being consistently being made to look like a Sunday league footballer by European opponents champions league experience. then yeah great Ox has that in abundance.

11 Jul 2017 22:34:09
Of course he can't change every player harry, the man is only human.

Point is, he HAS upped Lallanas game. Simple as that mate.

Markovich I really wanted to see more of, Klopp wouldn't give him the time of day, why? who knows. Maybe he would of been better then Lallana, but he never got his chance, which is unfortunate but it is what it is, it happens. But as things stand he's not better then Lallana. Each to their own.

You can't say that about Salah, he hasn't played a single minute for us yet, I do believe he will as well, but hold your horses. For all we know he could be terrible, we will have to wait and see.

Hansens scar, we don't know where he will play bud.
I'm in hope some Klopp magic and the Oz can become a decent acquisition to our squad.
Remember, we will be chasing 4 trophies next season.

11 Jul 2017 22:52:52
Hansen I said he needs to be more consistent. he is still only 23 so there is room for a lot of improvement. But it is a fact he has champions league experience and prem experience. I'm not saying he would be a starter but there potentially a lot more games this season which could result in more injuries to our attacking line up so imo the ox would be a great back up player who can fill in lots of different positions.

15.) 11 Jul 2017
11 Jul 2017 22:55:10
Ox collecting the ball on the half turn in space could be a big weapon for us. I'd be delighted if he signs.

16.) 11 Jul 2017
11 Jul 2017 23:10:44
Why are you lot comparing markovic and lallana? They are two different players with two different playing styles?

I for one would like to see the ox given a chance, 23 mind?! Plenty of time to learn and adapt his game and play games.

17.) 11 Jul 2017
11 Jul 2017 23:09:56
Imagine salah, firmino, Coutinho and Mane are on the field. Firmino is having a rough game so we bring on Sturridge. Salah picks up a knock so on comes. Lallana. I personally value what Ox brings the table and he has bags of potential but I have to admit he would find a hard time in our squad unless we consider challenging for all four in which case he would be an excellent steal out from under Arsenals wenger.

18.) 11 Jul 2017
11 Jul 2017 23:20:51
Harry, Markovic was never given a proper chance in his proper position and to be honest he couldn't keep up with the speed and power of the prem mentally and physically. He is perfect for Spain though.
There is plenty of players in Spain who have moved over to the prem with big hype and flopped amazingly.

But I don’t get how you can compare him to Lallana? . They play completely different roles.

Also you seem to be thinking of Lallana only in a LFC shirt. He was near world class (bring on the hate) before we signed him and he couldn't adjust properly but now Klopp has a system in which Lallana is shining through again.

I agree Klopp "hasn’t changed Lallana" but he is drawing out the best in him which is then reason we originally bought him.

And Hansens Scar I wouldn’t exactly say Liverpool has a "pretty average squad". We have some absolutely outstanding players (let’s ignore our defence though) . Buuuut I do agree with you, and a lot of people saying we do not need the Ox.

We have plenty of midfielders and several who can cover the wings if needed whilst still leaving plenty of choice in the middle of the park.

The only type of midfielder I would want Liverpool going for is a pure tank of a player with a loud mouth to protect the CBs who will win most air battles. but they are harder to find with the game being more "technical"

LB and CB are what we need the most and everybody knows it (please don’t start mentioning the same names the devs are sick of xD)

Signing Ox, if it happens would be the best value signing since Matip.

He's 24, has his best years ahead of him and has already more Champs league experience than most players
get in their whole career.

Hes big, strong, fast, and is a perfect fit for Klopp as a utility player. He is a better crosser than Clyne and can play anywhere on the right.

20.) 12 Jul 2017
12 Jul 2017 06:34:13
I personally think Lallana has upped his own game to due Klopps system which allows our front 3 a little more freedom. I love Klopp but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll be giving Klopp credit for Lallana's top form at saints all those years ago next 😂.

12 Jul 2017 06:59:34
What happened to the once we get CL football then it will open up the market to top players and we can compete with other teams. Not criticising who we have bought but personally I believe we could have signed Salah and Solanke and attracted Ox without it. So to me nothing has changed.

22.) 12 Jul 2017
12 Jul 2017 07:27:47
So you all want the club to splash £30 mill on a back up player / Squad filler? What is Grujic then? How is Ox any different to Grujic? What will happen to Grujic given you are brining an exact similar player?
Our attacking midfielder's quota is filled people! We could either have a Defensive midfielder or proper CM.
Why is it very hard to people to understand the GAME! You are running behind names and not position!

23.) 12 Jul 2017
12 Jul 2017 09:04:10
When you say he can play anywhere on the right, this is a misleading statement. He can play right back badly, since he's no idea about defending, he can play really get wing back badly for the same reason and as a very average premier league right winger. The man himself has delusions that he can play centre midfield, which is a bigger laugh than Everton signing Rooney. This is £30m squad filler, he's no better than Stewart Downing, that's the type of signing this is. Ask yourself why no other top four side are interested? He's been shown time and again that he simply isn't good enough at the highest level as he doesn't have the football brains to take him beyond simply being about power, you only need to look at the downturn in Rooney's form over the last four or five years to see that type of player has a very limited shelf life.

24.) 12 Jul 2017
12 Jul 2017 09:16:43
Harry I can't disagree with you there, I do believe we should be giving Grujic more of a chance before bringing somebody else in, but Klopp knows best mate, or id like to think so anyway.

25.) 12 Jul 2017
12 Jul 2017 09:30:12
Not Rooney's biggest fan but as record England and UTD goal scorer he's hardly had a very limited shelf life 😂.
