Hi Eds,

Just a post in relation to our fullback options and Liverpool's inability to make first class signings. It feels like if LFC cannot sign Keita or Van Dijk there is no alternative and it seems Jurgen is happy to continue with Milner at LB. Don't get me wrong, I think Milner has done a great job when LFC dominate games, Milner struggles defensively while Clyne is limited offensively, Man City are prepared to pay £100m on 2 fullbacks in Walker and Mendy while Liverpool are contemplating Tierney and Robertson, it's a shocking contrast in ambition!

I would love to see the fullback situation taken care of before reinforcing any other part of the squad. In Klopp's system, the full backs provide the majority of the width with a holding mid dropping to provide cover. Neither Milner nor Clyne are successful in this role. Both are average in both departments. However, there are very few fullbacks in the world who are capable of both defending in a high press system, as well as providing the necessary outlet in attack. And the ones who are capable are either unavailable or don't seem to want to join Liverpool. This isn't FIFA where you can purchase any player you want if you have the funds. That being said, I will remain optimistic that we bring in a fullback for both flanks.

Tierney won't join us.

What makes you so sure Tierney won't join us? Celtic and Liverpool have very good links historically, especially in countries like Ireland and Scotland, and you often find fans of one tend to support the other. Not saying he will but it seems daft to totally rule it out.

Well said Yankee I can't see why people (not including ed1) can't see with the addition of a player like Mendy we would have a great chance of the league even without vvd or naby.

I think Hansens scar is referring to the fact that Tierney has said he is happy to progress at Celtic, not least as he's a boyhood Celtic supporter.

He has also been quoted (reported earlier today on these boards, search for his name) as saying that he would prefer a move to Man Utd when he's ready to move on.

Right or wrong, that seems to be the guy's preference.

And don't forget there's been a few moves between Celtic and Man Utd over the years too.
