Regardless of other rumoured transfers not coming through I've got high hopes for salah this seaso, especially since I can't actually remember the last time we've had two out and out wingers to have on the pitch at the same time and properly spread the play with pace and width.

I think wingers are a dying breed, everyone now is a number 10 playing slightly to the left or the right of a midfield trio.

Who was the last winger or winger pairing that you all thought were great players? I'm struggling to think of any, used to think reira could show good glimpses for the spell he was here and at least he offered width and could cross a ball! Think he played a couple of seasons with benayoun who altho again was more of a number 10 I was such a fan of his!

Help me out here guys we must have had some good wingers over the last 10 years or am I just drawing a blank?!

I rated Maxi Rodriguez fairly highly, certainly did the job pretty well for a few years, can't think of many others.

The last time Liverpool had two out and out wide players to play either side of a striker, we won the league! Never mind SAS. It was all about BAB. I have only seen highlights of Barnes, Aldo and Beardo but to say they were the best in English football history is probably an understatement.

Kuyt always played right wing, althrough wasn't an orthodox one - for me one of the most composed players we have ever had. He would fit in well with klopp today!

The mighty Mark Gonzales springs to mind. What was the quote, 'The greatest Chilean player this generation'?

Duff and robben at Chelsea.

I always thought that Mark Gonzalez was an excellent player. But he suffered so many horrific injuries at a young age he was never going to make it to the very top level.

More like we never bought wingers and signed too many ACM's and played them on the flanks with no Success! I remember a poster called Bobarton on the site who was a big time fan of playing such midfielders on the flanks.
Chelsea has been playing with wingers from a decade while UTD dominated the league playing two out and out wingers.
Pace is always a decent weapon if you know how to use it!

I'm really looking forward to two great and very quick wingers, Ferguson had huge success with very good wingers and I think we will too. Just hoping Firminho can step up to the next level to get on the end of those crosses. He was great last season but I think he needs to push on again to be our 20+ striker and make the most of what I think Mane and Salah will be delivering.
Also interested to see if Gini gets the call to attack more with late runs into the box as I can see him getting into double figures with great deliveries from the flanks.

You know what MK, you genuinely missed out not seeing them play live. They were something else. Aldo had a tremendous work rate and didn't shirk a challenge as well as being able to finish. Barnes and Beardsley were quick, clever and skilful. Seeing Salah and Mane is as close as we've ever had to having the kind of player that B and B were.

I'll always maintain the only weakness is the 08/ 09 team was our wingers. Even Kuyt was more graft than class. If that team had had mane and salah in it (obviously at their current ages, not when they were teenagers) we would have won everything.

Putney u could say the same about the team that came 2nd under Rodgers, the only winger in that team was a young sterling who actually played at the tip of a diamond for most of the season because we had no one out to partner him on the other side and we wanted to fit both suarez and sturridge in up front, another decent winger would have done wonders for that team too and allowed us to mix up our formations a lot more when needed. This is why I'm excited to have both salah and mane for this season coming and if injuries occur we can then switch formations or even play some other lads out wide for a few games when needed.

Barnes could win the league on his own! He is up there with Kenny! Special player! A lot more than just winger!
