HI Eds

Not wanting to open a can of worms but all this talk of liverpool targets who were wrongly tapped up (no denying it) are looking likely to put in transfer requests - my question is, can a club refuse a transfer request and hold the player to their contract? Or is there any law that states they have to release the player if a transfer request is put in? I just understand the point in them if there is no law to state that if one is put in the club have to adhere to it if a decent offer comes in?

{Ed002's Note - No, they can simply reject it.}

ok thanks ed2 can i ask what is the point in the transfer request if it can be rejected? is it just to make the public aware the player wants to leave?

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the public, it is simply a player saying I am pissed off and I want to leave.}

If it was FIFA, the board would get sick of the moaning and sell the player behind the managers back for half his value. let’s hope that happens *rolls eyes*.

Also the player forfeits any contractual loyalty payments as far as I'm aware.

{Ed002's Note - Not quite, they lose the 5% payment from the transfer fee that they would otherwise get. Loyalty payments are made within the provisions of the contract and vary on a case-by-case basis Ron.}

Ed2, I keep seeing you and Ed1 mentioning this 5% of the transfer fee. Please excuse my ignorance, but is this 5% mandated by FIFA, the FA or just a standard clause/ provision in modern-day footballing contracts?

Cheers and thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - It is in the FIFA regulations.}
