To the eds, away from all the transfer talk, would like your views on a specific topic on footballers. You guys have vast amount of knowledge of the game but I would like to know if any of you have come across any footballers who had huge potential but did not quite manage to fulfil it. This would be following on footballers who played for liverpool and outside the club. I'm not so sure if this questions been asked to you. I'm sure it would be a nice breather to get away from all nonse and having to repeat yourselves time and time again in regards to the transfer rumours. The one person that springs to my mind is smicer. Users also welcome to share their thoughts. Keep up the good work guys!

{Ed002's Note - There have been a bunch of kids whose career has been screwed by moving too earlier. I always use John Bostock as an example.}

John Bostock, now there's a name from the past. Made his deput at 15, and if I remember correctly, Palace turned down a bid from Barcelona for him.
Good to see him rebuilding a career. Won a couple of accolades last season at Lens I believe.

Vlad won the champions league, are you mad. Reading up till then I was thinking of players like Della Valle, Anderson, Nemeth, Trickett Smith, even Phillips who has just signed for Norwich. Then Babel and Collymore sprung to mind.

I believe Heskey was rated as having the potential to be the best player in the world at 18. Le Tallec was rated higher than Ronaldo. Football is littered with players who were thought to be the next best thing but failed to make the next step up. Ojo for example is in danger of becoming one of them

For me, I love the stories of players who nobody thought much of but worked their butts off to make a career of footy.

It's only people on here who think Ojo is the next big thing, and I'm guessing half have barely seen him play. He looks to be okay at best imo and he won't make the grade at Anfield.
The fact he couldn't get in the England u20s starting line up tells you something.

Balotelli wasnt bothered about fulfilling his immense potential.

Ed also a perfect example is Marco Marin. He was one of the most promising talents in Germany and played very well at Bremen at the time. Went to Chelsea and after god knows how many loan deals he ended up on the bench of panathinaikos or some other Greece club. Sad to see talent go to waste.

Nii Lamptey is one that I always think of, a superstar as a teenager he moved to Aston Villa when he was 19, really struggled and was pretty much never heard of again at the top level.
