Part of what we're experiencing imo is the result of the loss of all the leaders from our dressing room over the past few years. You look at who we had in 2011 or 2012, we had Reina, Agger, Carragher and Gerrard. If we had any of them now, they would be the stand out option to captain the team. Even Suarez, as dreadful as some of the things he did were, could not stand losing a football match and that rubbed off on players around them. Now they're all gone, and we haven't really replaced them. Henderson's a good pro, so is Milner, and there probably aren't better options for the armband in the team currently. But they're not strong enough to motivate the likes of Matip to try 100% every game. And between all of our goalkeepers and defenders there's no organiser at the back.

No one's going to have a squad of 23 model professionals who give 100% every minute of every game whether it's the League Cup Third Round or the Champions League final, and whether you're 5-0 up 5-0 down or anything in between. But you don't need 23 model professionals if you have a couple of strong, vocal players who can drag the rest along at key points in matches. I said last season we needed to recruit one or two strong personalities to keep our fair weather players switched on, particularly at the back. Doesn't look like we've done it.

We don't have that character in the team I agree! I am still
Fuming at our backline ball watching for Burnley's free header in the dying minutes!

That free header drew a good save from Mingnolet that unsurprisingly has not been mentioned by the cliche army.

The problem I have with the people who defend Mignolet is that he makes a save, a save any decent keeper would be expected to make, and people call it a good save and go on about how noone mentions it. It isn't mentioned because it is the absolute minimum we expect from a goalkeeper, so make saves. The only reason it is termed 'a good save' is because it is Mignolet makirng it, if that was De Gea nobody would say anything and rightfully so - why should we try and big Mignolet up for making a routine save? Is that how low the bar has been set?

I see what you are saying Seano and agree to some extent but it was a good save. Very good save actually.

No its called giving credit where it's due. your opinion loses credit if it's not balanced.
Mignolet is a very average keeper but that was a very good save. There is nothing wrong with admitting that. It doesn't have to change your opinion of him, or mine. it just shows your open minded and judge on performances rather than trying to justify your own preconceptions.

I dunno what save you people saw. It was, as is usual with every 'very good save' Migs makes, nearly at him. I'd have saved it.

Yeah, generally the idea is to put yourself in the way of the ball. It's called a save for many but let's just ignore that fact because it doesn't support our argument. It was a very good save however you try and twist it.
The negativity on this site really is embarrassing.

Except he doesn't put himself in the way of the ball for that save. He just happens to be there without moving.

When someone comes up with a decent shot against him and he actually has to dive or even shuffle across quickly, he inevitably doesn't make it. Seriously, watch him over the next few weeks. See how many saves he makes where the shot is placed more than a foot either side of him. Spolier alert: It won't be many.

I don't know where this myth that Migs is a good shot stopper comes from. Is it from the penalty he saved on his debut 4 years ago maybe? It's certainly not for anything I've seen him do in the last 12 months.

Sirshanks and Redplanet, it is that type of attitude that has ensured that Migs has succeeded in stealing a living at LFC for the past for seasons. The high bar of low expectations.

He stood at his near post and was well positioned to make the save as Mee had NOWHERE else to place the header. All he had to do was stand there and the ball would hit him. Had Buffon done that, would you have cared? NO! Why? Cos it is a save we expect him or any GK to save. Now cos it's Migs, you are lowering the bar to make it sound like he did something great. HE DID NOT.

A GK should be bailing his team out and saving a ball we all think is a goal. If Migs wanted to earn my praise, he should have saved the Burnley goal which we all thought was a goal before it went in. That is what a GK is paid to do. Save the team's bacon, not save a ball you could have saved by just standing there holding on to the post. He is crap and Karius or Ward will be in for him in due time and by the way, watch the Burnley goal carefully and you will see Migs' mistake in it. Enjoy.

You've just said it bingo. he positioned himself to such an extent that Mee couldn't beat him. excellent goalkeeping. Was that so hard to admit? It really is fun supporting your own players when they do their job.
Just for your info, I'm not the manager so I'm not responsible for Migs earning a living. Im just a supporter, you should try it sometine rather than trying to turn a positive into a negative just so that justifies your own argument.
