Any chance of Keita coming in January? OUr current midfield looks so pedestrian and unconvincing. We have 3 "jack of all trades and master of none" midfielders who inspire no confidence going forward or in protecting the defense. Keita has to be an upgrade on all 3.

He is indeed an upgrade, a massive upgrade. We'd have to pay more I think should we want him in January (somebody correct me if I'm wrong there) - He won't be coming in January in my opinion, let's wait for the summer, concentrate on getting a decent CB in January, that's priority right now.

I don't think the defence is as bad as made out. A better GK and a CM who likes to defend and they will look much better. I don't think we will do much in January. Maybe VVD if possible but I don't expect 3/ 4 first team additions if any.

Priority should be signing a CDM and a couple of CBs. No point signing a new GK till Karius and Ward have been given a fair shot. VVD, De Vrij and Nzonzi will make our defense much more composed and solid.
In Jan, its imperative we get in at least one CB. The rest will and should be sorted out in the summer.

{Ed001's Note - why De Vrij? He is very slow and injury prone from what I have seen.}

Because he seems to be the most realistic option right now, and there is a good chance we sign him due to his contract situation. And he can't be any worse than our lot can he (when he plays)? Just want an upgrade in the CB area, that's it. In a dream world, would be Manolas and Alderweireld but we all know that's never going to happen.

{Ed001's Note - so you just want change for change's sake, rather than making sure they are better? That is how we ended up in this mess, managers buying players who were not better than what we had, just to change things. De Vrij is realistic because he is not that good. We could realistically get a lot of players who are no improvement but that is not a reason to buy them.}

DE Vrij is better than Lovren and Klavan from what I have seen (which was 3-4 years ago though) . He looked way more composed and solid for his age than Lovren and Klavan do now when put under pressure, that's for sure.
I know that we have not scouted properly before buying in the past, but we need new defenders now. The current ones have had more than enough chances and they continue to make too many schoolboy errors. Its time for a change, whether good or bad coz chances need to be taken on new recruits than persisting with what we know are already average players at LFC. Migs has been at Anfield for 4 years running. Does that mean there are no better options we can take a punt on?
De Vrij will be dirt cheap and worth taking a shot at.

{Ed001's Note - De Vrij has lost his way mate, injuries have robbed him of a lot. Honestly I would not see the point in buying him, he makes Klavan look pacey and he cannot be relied upon. We do not need new defenders, we need better defenders, that is where you are going wrong. Change is not a plus, stability is something we need more. Players can develop a partnership over time, so you do not change just for the sake of change, you change if it is going to improve things. If people would grow up and stop being such spoilt children, tried showing some patience, then we would be in a much better place. I won't hold my breath, as you will still be on here every single time we don't win screaming for new players.

Obviously you are not even able to take the lesson from your own posts. A replacement was bought for Migs, the change you so desire, yet you all got on his case, so he had to be dropped. Now you want to do the same to the defence to set us back even further. Nice one.}

I did not get on Karius' back. I still strongly feel he should be No.1 or rotating with Ward while Migs gets the boot.
And the CBs have had enough time to gel. Its not working, its obvious. I am not advocating De Vrij but if the club is targeting him, then Klopp obviously believes he can be a solution to our defensive conundrum. And he obviously won't be the only CB targeted. Seems Klopp wants both VVD and De Vrij.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so. More change is what you want, rotate keepers. I give up, this is pointless, modern day fans deserve nothing. You are not advocating, yet you just spent this thread telling us how De Vrij would improve things, yet clearly you have no idea whether that is true or not. This is just ridiculous. The cbs are not gelling because of the injuries, they are simply not getting time to gel because they are all in and out of the side, now you want to bring in someone who has even more injuries to fix it. You can't even figure out what I reply anyway, just talking about how you personally did not get on Karius' back, like that is in any way at all relevant to the point I made.}

Lovren and matip have only lost 1 game where they have started together, it's getting them starting together that's the problem.

“. Lovren and matip have only lost 1 game where they have started together. @

Yes thanks to our forwards who scores equal amount to bail them out!

{Ed001's Note - yet you all say our forwards are unable to score. Which is it? Seems you all just want scapegoats and haven't actually got a clue.}

I am sorry I have never questioned about the front 3. They are the only people that actually functions. My worry has always been a medicore midfield and awful defense!
Give me 38 1-0 and I ll happily take it!

{Ed001's Note - haven't you? You must be the only one who hasn't recently. Everyone else is whining they are not scoring.}

They are shouting at forwards simply to mask the defense and midfield who constantly bottles week in week out!
Rafa won two league titles at Valencia playing 1-0 football. The pressure on the front 3 is immense every week! They are doing triple shifts due a piss poor defense and medicore midfield! Our CM’s together have scored a MASSIVE 1 goal in between them. The team is not balanced hence we rely on GOALS! No wonder we have the worst GD in the league inspite of scoring 20 goals this season!

Spot on, Ed. Tth even listening to. They think that cos a player is realistic, then he must be better or he must be better cos he does not play for us. De Vrij is injury prone as he is just returning from a nast injury himself and pace is not his strong suit. How would he cope in a a quicker and faster and more physical league where we play a high line? These fans can't answer that as well cos you know, we should just sign 'insert CB here" even tho he does not improve us.

This is why I backed Klopp for not signing a CB just for the sake of it. If that CB does not improve us, these same people will be coming on here saying he should have just kept the money and waited for his real choice to come free. See how that works? People are simply interested in being right w/ o using any type of reasoning or understanding from the manager's point of view. Klopp wants improvements, NOT STOP GAPS. If you cannot understand that then, no one cannot help you.

Harry, we will not be playing like your god Rafa anytime soon and invoking him every time is pointless and of no consequence. His time has gone and he is history. Leave it be.

Bingo I understand what you're saying about Klopp wanting improvements and not stop gaps but aren't Roberston, Klavan, Ox and Karius stop gaps as none of them can break into Klopps starting 11. Even Matip has been called a stop gap by Ed 01. I also agree that we shouldn't have just bought a centre back for the sake of it and we need to identify the correct one to play our system and improve us. What I don't understand is how Klopp and his coaching / scouting team only identified VVD as that only player in world football. We held out for the whole window and never actually put an official bid in. This is not a Klopp out post as I love the guy but he and some of the players are not bullet proof whilst others always seem to carry the can.

FWIW, Id be far more concerned if we weren't creating chances than I am about not finishing at the moment. The tide will turn, the goals will come.

Jayden, Ed has explained the reasons why VVD was the only one Klopp wanted. You can disagree with that BUT that is the reality as we all know that good CB's are rare and those who have them DON'T sell. The reason I believe that Klopp just could not find a viable option apart from VVD was that even City w/ all their money, needed a CB and had to settle (that's right, settle) for Johnny Evans. Do you want Johnny Evans at LFC? I don't. The thing is that you don't have to agree with a decision to understand the reasoning behind it.

Klopp's reasoning is backed up by facts as LFC have spent years buying players who are poor just to fill a need and we all complained about it. Klopp has stopped that and people are still mad. Klopp is not bullet proof and I have my gripes with him as well (tapping up, late subs., GK rotation for no reason, Migs should be canned etc? BUT I don't slate him w/ o understanding the reasons behind his decisions. That is the difference btw m and many on here who just think things ar black and white with no grey areas of which in footie, there are many. It is what it is, I'm afraid.
