So Matip is clearly making a career being the guy says "oh it's not my bad" instead of being the guy that tries his best even tho he makes a mistake.
We need gutsy winners at the back, personel which is not afraid to make mistakes trying to do the right things.
We'll get there hopefully, but we need to address problems head on and be brave with our solutions.

Pretty much AnfieldBlossom. He is just so lackadaisical. It is stressful to see someone with the raw physical potential, who seemingly can't be bothered. Ed002 did try to tell us all from the start he was a back up level player at best.

I think the system Klopp has tested might temporarily improve things enough to keep us in contention until January. We really do need someone new at the back though. I have a feeling that the club will go back for Virgil in January though. I just hope that doesn't back fire. We will overpay for sure as he isn't as perfect as the media paint him to be, but if we miss out again and have no back up again, we will probably finish outside the top 4. I can't see Koulibaly signing if I'm honest. Napoli are in a very real title challenge.

I'd love Hummels. Doubt he'd leave Germany though.

Great article MK, as regards to Gomez he needs a better mentor than matip, we don't want him picking up matip's bad habits as we saw vs spurs, he has a great future in front of him.

Good read and broadly agree

Matip I feel has potential but needs to switch on more, too often he’s not where he’s needed to be. Looks far better in a back 3 where the defensive positioning doesn’t kill you if you get it slightly wrong.

Lovren I feel is too erratic - predictability for your team mates in defence is important, the other CBs don’t know whether he’ll stick or twist IMO. but then he’s also not helped at all by Moreno who shows exactly the same unpredictable decision making. Together they are a mare

Klavan I actually quite like when we play a deeper line, and when he’s marking a grock . he’s brave and clears the lines. Put him up against pace however and he’s badly exposed.

I did like what Klopp did against Huddersfield with Gomez dropping into a back 3 when in possession to protect against the counterattack. Gomez isn’t the best attacking fullback out there so IMO not a massive loss if Salah can stay wide, but then it does rely on the midfield and forwards moving the ball quickly and getting into the box as we looked a bit pedestrian first half with too many players behind the ball.

Cheers SG red. Agree with most of your points too mate. On Klavan, he seems okay at marking from open play, but at set pieces he seems to lose his man all the time. He prefers marking a bit of a 'grock' as you put it 😂 if they move about to much, he struggles! I don't mind him though. He's okay in a deep line as you say, and for a fourth choice centre back, he does a job. He isn't great, but he doesn't need to be. Great players won't happily sit in the stands most weeks anyway!

Great read, MK. Agree with almost all your points regarding all the CB's. I like Gomez a lot and love the fact that he is improving cos his talent ant and ability on the ball and out of possession is palpable. We just need to to keep coaching him up cos he is one for the future cos he has all the tools to be a great CB. As for the CB we can sign, VVD is the one Klopp wants and to some extent, for good reason as his attributes are exactly what we need at the back. He just needs to get his head screwed on right and stop doing a Matip and he will be very good cos he is already near fundamentally sound. Hopefully, Klopp can fix him.

Cheers Loris, and good post mate. If we do sign VVD, here's hoping he and Gomez form a formidable partnership for years to come! God knows we need it. Whilst VVD wouldn't be my personal choice, i understand Klopp's logic behind wanting him, and would back him the second he put pen to paper.
