Afternoon, I hope all are well. Good result for us at the weekend. I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask and I'm happy to move my enquiry to one of the other pages if needed as it's not really livepool related. A question for the ed's. Do you think the World Cup in Qatar 2022 will go ahead or is there any chance of it being moved? it just seems absolutely insane to hold it there and the idea that a global and important sporting event is going to be held in a country suspected and accused of financially supporting terrorism, let alone all the human right abuses that go on daily. I always really enjoy the World Cup and obviously football in general but I'm really turned off from it at the moment. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - There have been meetings to establish an alternate solution but right now it will go ahead in Qatar. If however matters were to deteriorate further it would not be out of the question that it could move to Australia. There are several complexities including television rights that would need to be addressed.}

Thanks for the response ed002. I'd imagine there would be significant pressure from European leagues and clubs to avoid massive rescheduling. Would that be in Fifas mind or are they more concerned on the commercial ramifications with being associated with Qatar? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - The schedule wouldn't change.}

If the competition gets moved due to the so called allegations of financing terrorism then it will be great shame because by the same token Russia, UK, US and many other countries should also get ruled out.

If it gets moved I hope it's for the right reasons. Not for some propaganda.

{Ed025's Note - it should never have gone there in the first place for me hanif, to say it was a fiddle is the understatement of the year, countries like qatar with very poor human rights policies should not even be in the frame, and the funding of terrorism is hardly propaganda mate, just my view of course..

It's an absolute fiddle, even for it to be in Russia shows that,

The way Russia carried on wth drug testing should have seen it banned from participating in an international sporting competition never mind hosting one,

{Ed002's Note - Obviously being a Liverpool supporter you have to find something to whine about.}

Interesting Ed. Does that mean you support the use of illicit drugs in sport? Russia had a state-sponsored programme of cheating, was that ok then?

{Ed025's Note - absolutely not ND, they should not get the gig either..

I agree with Lfcder, sadly money talks! Qatar, Russia, there are so many more deserving nations out there, Russia isn’t particularly safe, isn’t rife with racism and football violence. Qatar doesn’t really need explaining. I’m not advocating moving it to the UK but we are set up better than most to accept the tournament. I like when a poorer nation hosts it, although the costs are immense I can’t help but see the magic with local kids getting to support their stars when usually they couldn’t, South Africa, Brazil etc. These games weren’t without their issues but far more deserving than Qatar. I cannot understand your dig at the previous comment ed02? I think it’s a general attitude of football fans globally not just Liverpool that the tournaments aren’t awarded to the most suitable nations? The only positive thing with Qatar is it’s easy to get to now due to it being a major stopover for long haul flights.
Where would alternatives have been? America? uk? spain? Australia? China? I don’t think anything will change now but it would be good to see FIFA and even UEFA grow a pair, from stricter punishments for racism and homophobia during champions league games to withdrawing games from nations like Russia if it is believed not to be safe for fans.

{Ed002's Note - The Uk is not an option. Just more whining about things you clearly don’t understand.}

Sadly other regimes in the area are unhappy that little Qatar has been given the privilege of hosting the World cup but are we kidding ourselves if we think the previous hosts were not awarded the honour on the same basis.
Unfortunately I think the brown envelope culture will continue in the FIFA selection process well into the future.

I don't understand your answer about being a Liverpool fan and having something to whine about?

I stated my opinion about Russia and their apparent state sponsored drugs fiddling and you call it whining?

{Ed002's Note - You are simply whining - the standard trait of Liverpool fans. It is very tedious.}
