Ed002, Pretty much every club that has a player linked with us has said they won’t be selling in January. This includes Monaco, Leicester, RBL. Is this posturing? Knowing that Liverpool have Some money to spend and a creative hole in the squad? I’m not an expert at reading into these things. Are Monaco really saying that he’s not for sale unless you give us most of that money you have? Or is it a case of Liverpool not doing the obvious and replacing Coutinho the midfielder instead of Coutinho the left winger? In which case the media are linking the wrong players?

{Ed002's Note - Not really, clubs don't like to sell in January because they don't plan to do so and they cannot get replacements. The thing is that the Liverpool fans want instant gratification and don't really care who arrives as long as they are expensive and it happens soon. Monaco has a lot more money than Liverpool and Liverpool has not approached them to buy Lemar - and they have said nothing like that to Liverpool. Michael Emanalo has made that very clear. Perhaps in the summer one of the interested sides can persuade them to sell.}

Thank you very much. I’d agree, there is a lot of people just wanting a player at the moment. Lemar looks like he’s not coming. Liverpool are not interested in Mahrez. Gelson, no contact. Keita, only in the summer. Goretzka, Bayern bound?
I have a feeling there might be somewhat of a meltdown very soon.

I don't want us just to sign anyone ed, it needs to be the right person, surely we will at least try to bring in one of the targets you have suggested.

What meltdown? We have seen several times how well the team performed without Coutinho this season. It would have been great if Coutinho stayed but still we will thrive without him.

So no team what's to sell their players in January, because it's so hard to replace them and you end up paying a lot more, except for Liverpool that is, the geniuses at our club decide to significantly weaken our team without any planning for a replacement it would seem, not one person connected to football has said this makes sense in anyway, utter madness, if we get no replacement in and miss out on top 4, what is that worth to the club? 40 odd million.

I don’t think we’re planning on signing anyone else in January. Here’s why:
-I’m being negative again (no, not really 😉)
-Whoever comes in will have to put up with Klopp’s rotation. I think that’s a hard sell in January in World Cup year if you are a player that’s currently playing week in/ out at another club. There’s no indication LFC are selling anyone else in January, we’re pretty heavily stocked in midfield as it is plus in the summer Keita is joining.
-Since the rumblings about Coutinho wanting to leave last summer we’ve bought Oxlade, Keita and VVD all record signings at the time. We’ve spent money already. IMO.
-The Premier league title has gone this season, that’s reality as far as I’m concerned. We are also out of the league cup. We are competing for top 4, FA cup and Champions league. I think the current squad is big enough to cope with that. Any player we get will be likely cup tied for FAcup or Champions league anyway.
-The addition of VVD will offset the loss of Coutinho IMO. Creating chances has been simple this season, we seem to score a low percentage of the chances we create, but still we are one of the top scorers. Defence has been our weakness and that’s why VVD will make an impact.
-January is a tough market to get right.

So I think in Ox, Keita, VVD and indeed Robertson (who has provided Moreno with much needed competition) we have gone a long way to addressing some of our major weaknesses. It will stand us in good stead for next season. VVD has half a season to build up a strong understanding with the rest of the defensive unit.

If no-one else comes in there will be no meltdown from me. We’re building slowly and steadily. I expect lots of movement during the World Cup summer. I think we’ll lose a few high profile players eg Can, Milner, maybe Lallana, Clyne, Sturridge perhaps Migs and Lovren. We will continue to build and improve.
