Can't understand why Goretzka would rather move to Bayern where he will be behind Thiago, Vidal and Tolisso in the pecking order, while with us he will walk straight into our team and be playing week in week out in the league and in the champions league. Just hope we can convince him, our midfield would be sorted for years with Keita and him in the middle.

As for the top french international we are trying to sign I can't think of anyone else apart from maybe Payet or Greizmann, both will be hard to convince to join us.

Keeper wise the only one I have seen much of who we are interested in is Oblak. Only thing that bothers me is he isn't a sweeper keeper which I think we need as we tend to play a high line, maybe someone like Navas would be a better choice.

You can't see why he'd rather play for the biggest club in Germany where he'll win things every season rather than a team that have qualified for the CL twice since 2009?

Payet would be interesting wouldn't it. Would klopp fancy him? its interesting though.

Goretzka will go to Bayern cause all germans want to play for Bayern.

Vidal is 30 and likely to move on. Chelsea definitely wanted him, and if they don't anymore, he could pretty much pick his club. I actually predicted him replacing Fernandinho at City, in the summer.

{Ed002's Note - Vidal won't be moving this month.}

Yeah i meant the summer coming Ed. Sorry, i worded it badly.

{Ed002's Note - Ok.}

Sure Putney he would probably win more trophies but will probably play only 10 games a season and feel as though he never earned them. Maybe I am wrong but for a player his age with the potential he has it makes no sense to go somewhere he won't play week in week out.

He may not play as much as he'd like to next season but he's a young player full of confidence, he'll believe he'll be first choice soon.

Just look at Renato Sanches, he had the world at his feet but couldn't get a game there and its stifled his development, what makes him think it will be any different for him.

Renato Sanches the overrated kid who didn't speak a word of German? Sanches hasn't settled in Germany. I think you'll find Goretzka is German.

Renato Sanches was hyped up way too much after a half decent Euro's. Is it really that hard to stand out in a midfield which contains William Carvalho who can't pass, Andre Gomes who's scared to pass more than 5 yards, and Nani/ Ronaldo who don't understand the very concept of a pass? Anybody could see that Portugal were absolutely terrible on the ball. Their midfield lacked creativity, composure, goals, or any form of ingenuity. The whole success was built on Pepe, Fonte, Ricardo Carvalho and Patricio being solid, experienced and to an degree, dirty. The rest of the team was bang average, with their only tactic being "give it to Ronaldo/ Nani and maybe one of their 15 shots a game will go in". Anybody who watched Sanches in that tournament and was remotely impressed, has incredibly low standards!

Goretzka on the other hand was part of a German midfield alongside Emre Can that absolutely embarrassed everyone else at the Confederations cup, with sublime football. Comparing Goretzka and Sanches genuinely makes it seem as though you never watched either of them play and just formed your opinion based on the media hype around both players.

Good luck to him, he'll make his own decision, I don't think it has anything to do with Liverpool to be honest, he won't be coming here. Goretzka will get games at Bayern, he has all the qualities to succeed.

Overrated Kid? He won the Golden boy in 2016? Nearly every top club on the planet wanted to sign him from Benfica. And I didn't think he had a bad euros to be honest, he scored their only goal against croatia to see them through to the quarter finals and at his age that is some accomplishment.

And I never compared them as players at all MK I was just using Sanches as an example of how for it could go wrong for Goretzka like it did for him. Sure Goretzka could go there and maybe be the first name on the team sheet I don't know but I doubt it. In my opinion it would be better for his development to join a club like us where he would play week in week out. And I am not basing my opinion on them from media hype which doesn't make any sense what you mean, I go to games, I own a TV I do watch football the odd time mate.

I meant no offence CyKlopps. I just think you might have been sucked in by the Sanches hype. He has never even been a good player. He's really, really average.

If i was Goretzka, I'd fancy my chances at the Bayern midfield. They've got Rudy who is poor, Martinez who is more of a centre back, Vidal who is likely to leave soon, and then Thiago and Tolisso who are first teamers for the foreseeable future.

At Liverpool he has Keita (record signing; will start), Chamberlain (another massive signing who is arguably future captain material), Can (might leave, might not), Henderson (current captain who usually plays when fit), and Wijnaldum (another major Klopp buy who tends to play when fit) .

Our midfield lacks balance right now, but once we land Keita and either keep or replace Can, it is arguably harder to break into than Bayern's, despite their first choice midfield currently being very strong. Germany is the country to play in if you are young player. They give you chances and the fans have patience.

He is massively overrated in my opinion, can't even get a game for Swansea that's how overrated he is!

None taken MK, having seen his recent form at Swansea recently I would agree with you but in the games I watched in his Benfica days I was impressed for someone of his age who looked like he had all the physical attributes to be great midfielder, different perspectives I guess.

Yes If Vidal was to leave I would agree with you as he would only really just have Tolisso to compete with to partner Thiago. Is Vidal destined to leave ed?

{Ed002's Note - There are two interested sides who might still be interested in the summer if the fee is low enough but neither has spoken with Bayern Munich recently. He certainly won't be leaving this month. It will also depend on what the new manager at Bayern Munich wants to do.}

What i don't get about any of this is that you are arguing that Goretzka (and by extension other young players with potential who aren't quite at the top yet) should come to Liverpool, as it will be better for their development because they will play regularly and may well become great players with us.

But then, when exactly that same thing happens with Coutinho, he joins as a young player needing games, gets games, becomes great and then moves to the club he's always wanted to play for, everyone freaks out that we develop these players and then they leave.

All seems like a bit strange to me. Either we are a stepping stone for where a player wants to be or we are the destination that a player wants to end up at when they reach the top. I would much rather miss out on players like Goretzka and become the team that everyone wants to join by building a great squad with players who want to play for us, than sign players who want to use us in order to obtain their dream move somewhere else.

RedDawn - i think the continuing point is that people will hope that with a player like him, we will start taking home the trophies and people want to leave. They want to attract the best players, not be a stepping stone. At no point did CyKlopps or anyone else mention him then going to Bayern when he got established as a top player at Liverpool.
