In case anyone thinks not spending big on a top keeper is very important, DeGea just kept Man Utd in the CL. What a performance, a truly top top class keeper and proof even with some poor players around him he can almost single handily keep them in the competition. A true one man show there. 👏 👏 👏, take a bow son.

Yeah I'm hoping they lose him because without him last night they'd of lost by a pretty decent margin. He's saved them in so many results this season, he will be almost impossible to replace.

Best keeper in the world right now IMO.

It was a poor finish, no way he should of given the keeper a chance from that far out.

Remember his first season where impatient United were on his back demanding he is dropped/ sold because he's so rubbish? And Fergie having to drop him to protect him from the criticism?

De Gea has won man utd player of the year 3 times. Schmeichel never won it once. That’s a true reflection of where that club is right now.

Hjikle, i remember them wanting him dropped for Romero 18 months ago, never mind his first season 😂 give them Mignolet for a month so they appreciate what they have.

Hjikle, De Gea has shown huge strength of character, he got a lot more abuse than other keepers got or get now, but used it positively to turn himself into one of the best goal keepers on the planet. To be fair to him he was playing for the biggest club in PL history and one of the biggest on the planet. He was also being compared to one of the greatest GK that ever played the game in Schmichael.

Mcgoveb I personally don't think it is important to spend big on a keeper it is more important to sign the right keeper regardless of cost
if Oblak or allison were to cost us for argument sake for 70m each or Navas was available on a free (which I know he is not) which deal would make more sense to complete?
Think we sometimes get caught up in spending loads of money means success, it doesn't always.
I personally hope Karius proves we don't need a new keeper just like De gea proved to Man U.

{Ed025's Note - please dont mention karius and de gea in the same sentence john..

I’m hoping they get conned into accepting Navas as part of a swap deal. That would be a top result for us!

We should be looking at a top class keeper in the Summer.

No matter how top class they are Harry there is actually no keeper out there who is as good as De Gea, he is the best of the best, Alisson might one day reach his level but i strongly doubt our chances with 1. the price he would cost after Roma feel butthurt because we are paying them only 50 million € for Salah, 2. PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona interested in him. 3. The player himself would probably love to move to Spain or Paris (with all the brazilians in their team)

It was a poor finish as Mighty Reds said. As a striker (which I was for a while), you are coached to head a ball like that down into the ground as the GK is expecting the header to be in the air. Muriel (a poor striker) made it easy for him so there's that.

Also, if you are comparing our GK to DDG then you will always be disappointed cos it took him 5/ 6 seasons to be this great after struggling (Yes, he DID struggle) for the first 18 months to the point of getting benched. You have to account for that history knowing that regardless of who you get, he will need time and frankly, I don't care what other GK's or players do cos it does not impact me nor how my team performs in any way.

What we should be doing is to see if our guy Karius has the goods to become great (if he gets it done this season, obv. ) cos right now, he is a very talented and competent GK who believes in himself and you need that confidence to succeed. That confidence and ability needs to be harnessed cos in he end, screaming for a top GK whereas NO ONE will sell to you, is like screaming into the night and being surprised the only voice you hear is your own echo.

Johncrow, even if Navas was on a free I would avoid it, he’s just not very good.
