I still cannot believe some think Clyne is good defensively. As it is, Gomes and TAA both his junior have proven to be more adept playing the RB position.

Clyne is senior, both Gomez and TAA are still learning their trades and are not even fully developed, never mind fully developed as RB's!

I am not trying to cause an eruption, tit for tat or having someone tell me that they have a right to their opinion about Clyne being good defensively.

The qualities Clyne has is his ability to get up and down the pitch as quick as possible.

His passing is absolutely dire, his positional sense is non existent and he cannot cross to save his life.

Clyne is supposed to be a modern day attacking fullback for crying out load.

I think it is fair to say that if any club, that is if their is one, comes calling for Clyne the club nor Klopp will stand in his Clyne's.

Even if Clyne does stay, is he going to asurp TAA's starting place. I want to see Clyne do that LOL.

There can be no sentiment.

Love that every poster here is an expert on positioning. Is there even a living player whose positioning hasn't been questioned?

He is enlish, there will be many takers! West Brom paid 10 million for Gibbs!

Someone needs to tell Clyne that his left leg is allowed to kick the ball.

Prime example of The Jack Wilshere effect taking place re Clyne, the longer a player is out injured the better he becomes. It's also a damning statement on the quality of full backs around at the minute that Clyne is being seen as anywhere near good. Do people not remember when everybody was asking that TAA/ Gomez be played because Clyne had had an absolute nightmare v Burnley when we lost 2-0? He's only being seen as good defensively because of the Jack Wilshere effect. I fully agree with the OP that TAA and Gomez are already better than Clyne at right back. I'd also add that I think Gomez is better at crossing too. When he's running onto the ball I've seen him put some great crosses in, also put that brilliant cross in v Arsenal for Firmino's goal when we destroyed them.

Great that Clyne has become the whipping boy of our squad. Always has to be one. Least it's not one that will cause any harm to the team now. its probably because he's played so poorly this year. Deserves any abuse he gets.
He's okay. he's not Dani Alves, and he's not terrible. Esp considering the rbs around. When kyle walker is apparently one of the best rbs and costs 50mil. Says a lot about the quality in that position.

And let's calm down with the praise for gomez and taa, very good young players but have a lot of improving to do. Trent especially in defence. Gomez is slightly better and poor enough in attack but he's a cb so that shouldn't matter down the line.

Where has anyone suggested Clyne is the whipping boy Kloppshop? If anything, Mignolet, Klavan, Matip and Lovren have had far more abuse from fans than Clyne.

KS, Clyne is not the whipping boy at LFC. He has never been good enuff in the way Klopp wants him to play. How do we know that? Cos in the summer of '16, Klopp was looking to replace him and when he could not, he turned TAA (a midfielder) into a RB and also turned a CB in Gomez into another RB and both are light years ahead of him. So how can you say Clyne is the new whipping boy whereas Klopp wanted rid from jump?

I don't think anyone has been whipped more than Moreno tbh. A hardworking young lad who works his socks off everytime he plays.

In all fairness, the demands of a RB have changed dramatically in the last few years.
When Clyne joined it was enough to simply assist going forward and hold the line at the back, now decent full backs are the most important members of the team in an lot of respects. Clyne isn't great but has been alright.
He will go to another club and do a solid job, he's just not what we need.

Again, I like him, nothing to do with his injury. He is no thrills, solid right back. Had a poor season last year but he put in some good performances especially in past city and Chelsea games.
