TAA also got exposed defensively against City and it was at that point Klopp started playing TAA against weaker teams. I'm not sure if Gomez could play 2 in a week or not given that he's just come back from injury but even if not, I feel TAA should've got the dead rubber match and Gomez this one. I thought Klopp had sussed it at this point, TAA in the matches against weaker teams where we'd have a lot of the ball, Gomez v the bigger teams where we'd be defending more, or even v park the bus teams, where we'd still be tested by better quality players. Don't get me wrong, TAA is a future star but for where he's at now, I think it was naive of Klopp to play him in a match of this magnitude.

But Gomez made errors against arsenal and Chelsea. I think we need to accept that they’re both young inexperienced defenders who we either decide to stick with and show patience, or we get rid and spend big. However surely most would agree that these 2 players are worth the patience.

Spot on, Lemuel. I fully agree with you. Having said that, neither of us know what was wrong with Gomez and why he did not play cos I was expecting Gomez to play however, Gomez is also as error prone as TAA is as well so these are not exact sciences. We move on.

Trent had a pretty good game against spurs.

Surely we can't be writing off 2 bright talented players who WILL LEARN THROUGH EXPERIENCE. what kind of fans have we turned into when we can't give our youngsters a chance. If it was clyne I could understand he's had years of experience but Gomez and trenty have both made similar errors and will definately make a few more during their careers. We need to stick by them because we can ALL see the undoubted potential and if we let them go we will regret it. It's not like the errors they have made this season has cost us the league or a trophy.

We don’t have a RB to call up on. That’s the reality and few posters were convinced we didn’t need one next season either. Klopp had no choice other than two youngsters! He should have either instructed one of the CM to play close to him or play James Milner there!

All very easy to say with hindsight Lemuel. When I saw TAA on the team sheet I hardly thought ‘oh my god he should’ve played Gomez’.
The way the game went he got caught out, it can happen to anyone let’s just leave the kid alone he’s been superb for us thus far and will only get better.
I’m not sure why we always have to blame people for conceding goals and losing games. It’s football, both will happen again. Lots of times in fact, if you can’t handle that then just watch and support something and someone else.

We should get an experienced right back to guide them. Don't play too many games, Gomez can replace matip as a centre back choice. Not sure who, bad I can't think of that many good right backs, but someone who could step up for big games.

We were outplayed in every area of the pitch by a well organised side. Playing Gomez wouldn’t have changed the game at all. TAA made a mistake that led to goal, it happens regardless of how experience a player is. He needs mistakes like this to ingrain it into his brain for next time. Fair play to the lad he had a tough game going up against one of the countries brightest stars. He’d get in my team for the weekend.

Over the top knee jerk reactions or what? Listen to yourselves. TAA has been pretty solid this season. He was done by rashford first goal, lovren helped put him in that position and the experienced defender didn't exactly help on the second goal.

Criticising two of the best younger players we have had in recent seasons, who have been playing very well so far this season, simply because they occasionally make errors playing in unnatural positions.?

Seems reasonable.

North Yorkshire Red. In what way were we outplayed in every department? We made 2 errors and from then on dominated the game.
OK we didn't create too many chances but to say we were outplayed is way off the mark.

We were hardly out played NYR. They hit a few long balls which Lukaku made something out of. Other than that we were in full control of the game.

I’d have no problem with Trent playing every game. Love the kid proud that he’s a proud red. Future captain if you ask me. He didn’t cost us the game 21 other players in that pitch.

I was fairly happy with TAA's performance this weekend. He made one mistake where he tried to be too clever setting up a counter attack rather than doing his job and making sure their attack had been halted. He had been fine up to that point, he didn't go to pieces after it had happened, he stayed solid at the back and was amongst our more threatening options going forward for the rest of the game. It was a long way from a glorious performance but it wasn't 90 minutes of unmitigated disaster, it was a mistake that he will learn from. I'd still be starting him in the next game happily.

It's not always about defenders making mistakes, sometimes it is attackers playing very well. The mistakes were made by Can for not shielding lukaku and helping lovren. For their first, trent was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. If he hadn't of tracked rashford run then rash would have gone to the left and shot, trent did track the run and got wrong footed. People being very harsh on taa, if anyone is to blame it is Can but I know what he was thinking, he was thinking lovren might win the ball and Can could get on the attack. He is not defence minded enough to play a defensive role. Apart from Hendo we don't have any real defensive midfielders.

Gini Hendo lallana.

That is my favourite midfield from last season. The Ox could come in for any of them and do well.

Someone was slagging lallana yesterday, baby driver I think, they said "who is he better than? When I said he is one of our better players.

If you want me to rate our midfielders from 1 down.

Henderson
Lallana
Ox
Can
Milner
Gini.

I would love to see a fully fit

Ox Hendo lallana

Perhaps we will in the world cup.

Lallana is being so underrated. He didn't go from being one of the best players in the league (last season and his last 2 seasons at Southampton) to being average as some are claiming. He has been injured, give him the time to get back, next season he will be as sharp as anyone. I can't wait. Hendo keita and lallana is some midfield. Again the ox can come into it.

Guys seriously? Man U were well organised, they made sure we had no room to attack. They nullified Salah and Firmino and out played us in the midfield. We didn’t dominate them after the mistakes as someone said. Man U didn’t have to chase the game any more so they didn’t. We weren’t threatening them in any way so were happy to sit back. Take the blinkers off lads there’s no shame in losing to to the better team on the day away from home.

Lallana is off Super Salah! He has no place. Keita will play alongside Jorginho ( if we are damn lucky ) plus Klopp will buy a replacement for Coutinho aswell! There is no place for Hendo let alone Lallana!

Agreed with NorthYorkshire! Having a lot of possession and passing it between themselves and sneaking through the middle is no dominating! UTD concedeed the possession and defended well.

Harry, that does not mean as NYR put it, that we were outplayed in every dept of the game. That is just knee-jerk stuff that lacks any kind of perspective. They tried something (hoofball really), and it worked twice, that's it. It was up to us to react to it the first time it happened and it did not and that is where Klopp and the players have to be proactive instead of reactive as games like this are won on the margins as the denied penalty shouts (I did not say that, Neville, Jenas and Lampard did) showed.

{Ed001's Note - 3 times. Mata got in and missed a sitter remember.}
