Ed001, old friend Maze hopes you are well.

Just catching up on the champions league games from midweek and would like to know if you have warmed to young Robertson yet?

We had a discussion early season when Maze wanted him at United because he has the potential to be the best left back in the league but you thought he poor and too easily exposed.

Do you think he has improved since then and in turn changed your mind. His performance against City was phenomenal for a player who fought relegation last season. Keen to hear your thoughts of that of your fellow red men.

All the best. Maze.

{Ed001's Note - still struggles and is really raw. On a good day he is excellent but he is far too inconsistent for my liking. I do love his enthusiasm though and especially his energy.}

Ed01 what would you say he struggles with mostly? Is it more his attacking (i. e. His crossing and decision making) or his defensive side? Personally I think all 4 of our full backs have impressed or improved this season.

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the game, that is what is so frustrating. Sometimes his crossing is excellent, a lot of the time it is just aimless or hits the first man, or worse he just chooses not to put in a cross when we have packed the box. Sometimes he defends really well and then he just gets caught miles out of position and all over the place constantly another time. I would have to say it is his consistency that is the biggest problem.}

Cheers Ed. Would you say he's improving though? I honestly think there is some player in there and Left back has been a problem position for us for god knows how many years. The passion he brings seems to rub off on others as well which isn't a bad thing. I think playing day in day out with Salah, Mane and Firmino will be a good thing for him and hopefully next season we will see him as well as our right backs and midfield pre-empting the front 3's runs more and more and slotting balls into them rather than aiming pointless crosses into the box.

{Ed001's Note - he is too inconsistent to judge. You can't say he is improving when the following week he has a stinker.}

After years of watching the likes of Glen Johnson stealing a living, I have a lot of time for a trier.

{Ed001's Note - agreed, I have a lot of time for him, but that does not mean he is the finished product and he needs to work on his weaknesses. However, being a trier and having shown at times he can be excellent, he deserves the time to do so. Let's be honest, there are not exactly a huge number of good left backs around, you only have to look at how many people laud Marcelo as the best in the world to know the quality of left backs it truly dreadful in the modern era.}

ED001 would you say he is an improvement on Moreno and I definitely agree he is raw but I think there is potential to work with there like trent on the other side
but he need to put together 5 o 6 good performances in a row.

{Ed001's Note - yes he is a step forward. A clear step forward. I am hoping he will be like Finnan used to be. He came to us as better than what we had and then gradually became on of the best as he improved himself each season.}

Thank god Ed, I thought I was the only one who thought that Marcelo is one of the most overrated players out there.

{Ed001's Note - he is obscenely over rated.}

Ed, if Marcelo is overrated, who in your opinion is the best left back around?

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I don't know. Sorry.}

I wouldn't say you were hash on Robertson at all Ed, but if he's so inconsistent why do people rave about him so much I wonder? Who do you rate in the Premier League in terms of full backs? I'm struggling to think of one that doesn't epitomise most of what you said about Robertson.

I really like the kid and we seem a lot more solid since he became a regular. But it's all about opinions and hopefully your correct and he improves even more with experience.

Disagree, Marcelo is the best offensive full back in Europe. He can’t defend! Oh well he don’t need to! He play in a team that has a world class stopper, a world class CM and a world class Holding mid, his job is to create goal scoring opportunities and he does it week in week out!
Alex Sandro is a good shout.

I agree, Ed. Robbo is a bit inconsistent even during games if you look at it closely. Even in the City game, some of his crossing was aimless while others, great. He was in position defensively while other times, it was just schoolboy stuff. One of which was he was caught out on a simple give and go btw Walker and Sterling which was comical.

Yes, I think he is a step forward from Moreno esp. cos of his enthusiasm, energy and eagerness to learn BUT with some saying he's arguably the best LB in the PL, a a HUGE stretch. You can't be the best LB in the PL with that much inconsistencies in your game. That is simply impossible. But I'm not worried cos Klopp will fix him up right esp. cos he is willing to learn.
