I agree with a lot of this article particularly Klavan who I think is the sort of player every squad needs but there are a few points I have issues with:

Karius - Not sure how much more he could have done to win you over since he came into the team, I think he has done very well, I would be happy if he is our first choice goalkeeper next season.

VVD - 'we all wanted him'. Actually lots of people on this site didn't want him, apparently he was overrated and lazy with a bad attitude.

Solanke - I agree I am not overly impressed with him so far but the lad is only 20, too early to call him a poor signing. When Harry Kane was 20 he was on loan at Leicester, some players take time to develop.

I think its a little harsh calling some of them poor signings. Yeah sure a few of them haven't added anything to the quality of our team but they haven't been a step backwards either. To me a poor signing would be someone who has hasn't worked at all. Like Bakayoko at Chelsea, or Markovic or Aspas.

Solanke is not even as good as origi imo and even he has been dire this season. He may improve, but i see why chelsea were holding him back from the first team now. He is just not ready yet. I honestly see more potential in rhian brewster than solanke.

Hopefully he will knuckle down and prove me completely wrong.

It's a coming - you'll see all the potential in brewster until he starts making the first team squad at 19, scores hardly any goals and then you'll write him off like you're doing now with solanke :p

for me, when it comes to kids it is far more important to focus on what they do well currently, and the strengths they have that can develop areas of their game for improvement. I mean we need kids in the club, and it is unrealistic that we will have 2 senior players for every position in our squad. so we have to create an environment that supports the kids to develop.

Faith, it cuts both ways, yes we have to give youth a chance but they still need to be assessed. Ultimately they exist to improve the team, if they're not doing that then they have to move on. Origi had his chance, didn't make the grade and was moved on. Solanke still has time but sooner or later he needs to start benefiting the team, otherwise what's the point?
