Going off a post I read from other user, I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on their team of the year this season? I had a think about it this morning and it's difficult in a few positions to choose but I'll post my team below and would love to hear the others posters teams too! This is purely opinion stuff!

De Gea
Walker. Tarkovski. Sánchez. Robertson.
De Bruyne. Kanté. Erikson
Salah Aguero Sane
.
It was tough to choose a few positions there and I think special mentions should go to the likes of ;
Ederson in goal (for how he has come straight in and cleaned up the mess Bravo left and adapted so well to city's style) .
Also to TAA at right back particularly towards the end of the season!
Ben Mee too for his partnership with Tarkovski and the position they have gotten Burnley into!
David Silva as i absolutely have loved him for years and think he finally got some recognition this year! Was hard to leave him out but wanted erikson in there!
And sterling and Kane up top for hitting the amount of goals Kane has and for sterlings overall improvement and turning into a player I didn't think he actually could when he was still with us!

What do you all think, who would u change in that team?

Sanchez as in the utterly hopeless Tottenham CB.?

2.) 17 Apr 2018

Agree with most of that team. Only changes I’d make is Walker and Aguero replaces by Valencia and Kane. To be fair Valencia hasn’t been great but I can’t think of any other right backs who have been consistent nevermind outstanding. Gomez and Trent have both been excellent but have shared game time.

Walker imo is one of the most overrated footballers on the planet, with his mate Danny Rose not far behind.

3.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 10:27:54
You have to find room for Firmino in that front three surely?

4.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 10:36:40
Haven't had a good think who replaces him but Walker out. So overrated. every time I see that clueless look on his face, he's always a mistake waiting to happen. Liverpool showed up just how poor he is.
Silva has to be in too. In fact the city 3 with fernandinho have had a better year than kante and erikson.
Don't like Kane but he's been the best striker this year. Aguero by far the best striker in the league but has been rotated and injured too much again. Whos Sanchez? Of Spurs? . woaw.

5.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 10:43:45
Personally I'd have TAA instead of Walker. Silva instead of Erikson and Firmino instead of Aguero.

6.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 10:44:37
I think I'm shocked to see Sanchez in a team of the season, and fairly surprised to see Kante there after an unremarkable season by him at best.

7.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 10:47:50
De Gea
Walker Baily Alderweireld Robertson
Kante KDB Silva
Salah Kane Sane.

8.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 10:50:51
What is it with the love for Sanchez at spurs? He's full of mistakes and has to constantly use his pace to bail him out as he is often out of position. Look at the city game at the weekend 1st 2 goals see him chasing jesus then sterling as both ran off him. And at Anfield he was terrible and vertonghen was constantly having to bail him out. Just my opinion.

De Gea - once again helped United to finish about 3 or 4 places above where their football deserves to be.

Alexander-Arnold - I can't think of any outstanding candidate here. So I've pick him based on him being 19 and as good as anyone.

Azpilicueta - Chelsea are the lowest scorers in the top 6 but defence kept them competitive. Plus lots of assists from centre back.

Mee - how on earth are a team with 33 goals in 33 games, 7th? Because they have an incredible defence. Great captain too.

Young - again, no outstanding candidates. I opted for Young though because he has changed position, and revived his career.

Milivojovic - the rock at the heart of an amazing Crystal Palace revival. He's scored penalty after penalty in high pressure situations.

De Bruyne - more goals created than anyone else and puts in an almighty shift. Maybe Salah's only rival for POTY.

Silva - makes the best team in the country tick. Alongside De Bruyne they have been phenomenal. Like a fine wine he just gets better.

Salah - He will finish the season totally eclipsing everyone else in the scorers chart and has had a hand in 53 goals (40 goals, 13 assists) .

Vardy - for his clinical efficiency. Vardy has 17 goals from just 60 shots. His first-time left foot volley is easily goal of the season as well.

Sane - What a season this guy has had. Blistering pace and power. The only player who managed to stop him all season is in this team!

Manager: David Wagner. Seriously, how has he kept that Huddersfield squad up? I can't believe it and the more I think about the more it amazes me.

Honourable mentions for Pope, Vertonghen, Cork, Eriksen, Firmino, Sterling and Aguero. All arguably deserved a place. They make up a strong 7 man bench instead!

De Gea
Valencia, Otamendi, Azpilicueta, Alonso
De Bruyne, Erikson, D. Silva
Salah, Kane, Sane

De Gea is an easy choice, he has been the best goalkeeper for a few years now.

Otamendi has fallen off lately but has definitely been the most consistent along with Azpilicueta.

Valencia has done a lot for Utd, more than walker has for City in my opinion but its close.

Alonso has been brilliant for most of this season, Robertson is close but he spent the beggining of the season benched by Moreno.

De Bruyne is easily the best midfielder this year, followed by Erikson and D. Silva. I don't think Kante has had the same effect as he did last year.

Sane has been the best left winger by a long way.

You can't take away from Kane that he is the best striker in the league, i think if Aguero could have stayed fit then it may be different but he hasn't so Kane pips it for me purely because of the goals (-1 that belonged to Erikson ofc) .

Salah is the pick of the lot, PL POTY for sure and in contention for the Ballon D'or too at this rate. If he manages to continue his form into the Semi's and Final of the Champions league helping us to lift the cup then i think it would say a lot about the bias towards spanish players if he didn't win it.

11.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 11:04:25
I'm assuming you're talking only about the EPL, so my selection would be:

De Gea
Valencia, Azpilicueta, Vertonghen, Alonso
De Bruyne, Kante, Silva
Salah, Aguero, Sane.

12.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 11:10:54
Just for everyone picking Kane, he has 24 goals, yes. But He's had 165 shots. That is 1 in 7.

He's been embarrassing this season in more ways than one.

Salah is hardly clinical, but his 30 in 128 shots is basically 1 in 4.

13.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 11:04:43
I'm not sure I understand all the Tarkovski hype. He seems to do all the Hollywood stuff, but then so did Keane. I think Mee is the one that holds it all together. The best defenders are the ones that are already in place and so it doesn't seem that they're doing anything special. If you're out of position and have to recover it may look like a cracking tackle or header but be in the right position and you don't have to go to the trouble. I think it was ED001 who said Tarkovski was a penalty waiting to happen, so when Italy got a penalty against England late on, conceded by Tarkovski, I did have a wry smile on my face. Anyway, I won't be going over the rest of your team that thoroughly, just thought I'd mention it :)

Team of the year is always really difficult because each of those players has been played in a different system. Young looked fantastic against Salah, but they were so compact that he didn't have to be as aware or work as hard as Miguel Britos, for example. Young succeeded, Britos failed (spectacularly) . The systems played a massive part.

You have to decide if it's the players that have played the best or who would play the best together.

Mine is from the latter; De Gea, Valencia, Mee, Azpilicueta, (left back is hard as no one has stood out) Robertson, Kante, Silva, De Bruyne, Salah, Firmino, Sane (sorry Sadio)

14.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 11:28:27
DDG/ Pope (can’t decide)
Trent, Mee, Alderweireld, Robbo
KDB, Silva, Eriksen
Salah, Firmino, Sane.

15.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 11:38:09
Really good post that, wellrednuckledragger.

Your team is not too dissimilar to mine either. Only 4 variants.

16.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 11:38:25
Anyone got any shouts for team of flops/ poor seasons?
Hart,
Mustafi, Ashley Williams, Gary Cahill, Callum Chambers
Pogba, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Renato Sánches
Bony, Alexis Sanchez.

17.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 12:09:16
Flops? God so many! Based on either what they cost OR were bought to do and how badly they failed to live up to it:

Hart
Zapacosta, Lindelof, Keane, Kolasinac
Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Barkley
Iheanacho, Defoe, Sturridge.

18.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 12:55:18
Some good shouts on there too Mk, Michael Keane is a good pick actually.

19.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 12:55:19
Flops: I've gone for top 6 teams as its fairer to judge players who are playing badly around better team mates.

Mignolet
Zappacosta, Luiz, Lindelof, Monreal
Sissoko, Bakayoko, Xhaka
Lamella, Lacazette, Sanchez.

20.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 13:13:00
De Gea
Walker, VVD, Vertonghen, Alonso
Kante
De Bruyne Silva
Salah, firmino, Sanè.

21.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 13:17:23
DDG (obviously)
Walker (poor defensively but added another dimension to City's attack
Robertson (coz all other LBs in league are bang average)
Ben Mee (leader of Burnley's miserly defense)
VVD (took poor LFC's defense to better days)
Kante (he is everywhere)
KDB (second best player after Salah)
Silva (criminally under rated)
Salah (enough said)
Firmino (coz he is the league's best forward line's fulcrum)
Sane (future Balon D'Or candidate)

22.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 13:48:13
De Gea
Azpilicueta, Otamendi, Vertonghen, Robertson
De Bruyne, Kante, Silva
Salah, Firmino, Sane.

23.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 13:54:29
Pope
Trippier, Azpi, Mee, Robertson
Silva, KDB, Eriksen
Salah, Kane, Firmino.

24.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 15:15:06
Team of flops. simple Arsenal. 33points off City.30 above West Brom.

25.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 15:37:02
Goalie is De Gea no better in the league.

Azpilicueta - Chelsea have been crap but Dave is great.

Hegazi - WB might be in a dog fight but he has more tackles and clearances than most and adapted very quickly. 242 clearances over 50 tackles to date!

Ben Mee - one half of Burnleys great partnership

Robertson - took a while to get in but great since and consistent better than any other LB.

Ndidi - can't fault the young lad dynamic and wins the ball a lot in fact more than any other midfielder this season.

De Bruyne - Needs no intro

Hazard - Still 12 goals this season in a poor Chelsea side

Son - underrated player and key for Tottenham

Salah - leagues highest goal scorer and potential record breaker

Firmino - Offers more than just goals and still have plenty of them anyway. The most complete forward in the league.

26.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 16:04:41
People choosing Trent for team of the year need to give their heads a wobble, they were probably the people calling him crap a few weeks ago.
People just love setting these youngsters up for a fall, he looks a great prospect and has had a good season but he’s certainly not the best right back in the league which in my opinion is Walker by some distance.

27.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 16:26:39
I don't think either of the Burnley centre backs are exceptional, Burnley are just very well organised and play a system that they are all used to and well drilled in. I would say that if the manager was someone like Mark Hughes, it would all go to pot.

For me the team of the season is
GK De Gea
RB Walker (because there is no one else really)
CB Alderweireld
CB Lascelles
LB Robertson
CM De Bruyne
CM Fernandino
CM Silve
FW Mane
FW Firmino
FW Salah

I've stuck with the City Midfield because when they are firing on all cylinders they are very difficult to play against. Same as I believe that our front three can also be unplayable and have been consistent as a unit. Walker literally only gets in because of an absence of other candidates and although I think next year TAA will be there, he isn't quite yet.

28.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 18:56:28
De Gea - By far the best goalie in the world
Azpilicueta - Has played as a right sided centre half mostly but is so good he could play anywhere in the back 4
Mee - The rock of a very impressive Burnley defence
Van Dijk - Like Mee, not necessarily the best on pure ability in the league but his influence since joining is overwhelmingly positive
Alonso - Close between Robbo and Alonso but he delivers with more consistency in his free kicks and assists, as a wing back is quality
Ndidi - While Kante is the best in the world in his position, if he had played to his full potential he would be here. Chelsea’s position is an indicator of his and the rest of the squads downing of tools. His stats are impressive and he is maturing every season
De Bruyne - World class, benefits from Silvas excellence but some of his passes and assists this season have been some of the best I’ve ever seen
Silva - The best player the English game has seen since Ronaldo left the league. Criminally underrated and a true legend of the game. Like Barcelona and iniesta, city’s identity revolves entirely around him. When he leaves they will fall apart
Sane - While Sterling has been impressive sane is much more complete and mature with his all round play, he is Ryan giggs but with more goals
Firmino - Another criminally underrated player, and like silva, defines how we play. Reminds me of Dennis Bergkamp a lot. Close one between him Kane and Aguero but they are just goalscorers, Firmino is so much more
Salah - Nothing that can be said about him that hasn’t already been said

Honourable mentions to Pope, Alderweireld, Kante, Walker, Robertson, Doucoure, Richarlison, Matic, Kane, Aguero, Sterling, Eriksen and Son.

29.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 19:47:11
Sanchez is not even the best CB at Spurs so how can he be in the Team of the season? I can name 5 CB's who would deserve to be in the team of the season more than Sanchez. VVD, Mee, Azpilicueta (in a back 3), and of course Toby and Vertonghen.

30.) 17 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 20:22:15
De Gea

Valencia Vertonghen Alonso

Kante Fernandinho

De Bruyne Silva

Salah Kane Firmino.

32.) 18 Apr 2018

33.) 18 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 23:41:09
My team of the season:
De Gea (honourable mention pope)
Valencia (honourable mention Trent)
Me (honourable mention Azpilicueta)
Vertonghen (honourable mention VVD)
Robbo (honourable mention young)
Ndidi (honourable mention Doucoure )
KDB (honourable mention Eriksen)
Silva (honourable mention Ox)
Salah (honourable mention sterling)
Firmino honourable mention Kane)
Sane (honourable mention Son)
I think it is hard to pick the team of the year this year. There is maybe some bias in some decisions (Firmino or Kane was 50/ 50) and then Ox, he’s there because he’s improved so much as a player this season.
If De Gea was at city then I’d pick pope over him but because De Gea save Utd at least 12 points a season he’s there for me.

34.) 18 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 23:45:04
In fairness sanchez (cb) has put in some fantastic performances in the last couple of months. I think he is getting better too.

He looked pretty shocking early on but has turned a corner I feel. Would hate to play against him.

35.) 18 Apr 2018
17 Apr 2018 23:47:49
Cheers, MK. Fullbacks were hardest choice for me. No one has particularly stood out at right or left so I went for the same rationale as you, just the other way round.

On Milivojevic, I did consider him and have been impressed with him this season - when I have seen him. He has been very important for Palace's revival and just seems made for the Premier League. Being a solid penalty taker is always a bonus seeing as so many people seem to miss them nowadays.

36.) 18 Apr 2018
18 Apr 2018 06:31:44
I'd have Sane Kane Mane as my front 3, just to cause confusion with pronunciation 😂😂. I'd bet Kane gets pronounced wrong at least once.

18 Apr 2018 11:13:25
Yeah, massive shout out to David wagner. Unreal if he keeps Huddersfield up. Seems a nice guy too. I've been hoping they stay up since they best utd. And since I found out he is klopp big friend.
