Been waiting for the write up and as per usual top class ed
I siad it at the time bringing on Lovren was a mistake, definitely agree about the left back and hendo thought mane should of stayed on personally and ox brought on to replace one of the 3 in midfield.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. I agree Mane was causing them so many problems but Nyom was getting away with a lot so I expect Klopp just wanted to save him from injury.}

As always, top notch stuff, cheers Ed.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate.}

How that guy never got a red is beyond me he had at least three blatant yellow card offences.

{Ed001's Note - there were about 10 players on their team you could have said that about.}

good read Ed.

It does frustrate me how you can read tons of match reviews on the web/ tv and wander did they actually watch the game?!

What did you think of Henderson’s “foul” in the build up to there second goal? Never a free kick for me.

Anyway, baggies game is done, bring on Roma.

{Ed001's Note - damn I knew I had forgotten to mention something! That was a terrible decision, he fell over on his own, if you gave a million referees that decision to make I doubt any of them would give it as a foul, other than the one from yesterday.}

I agree it was very soft, but why did Hendo even make contact with him? He was obviously going to go down with any contact, so just stay away.

Thanks ed.
These are my favourite part of this site and I always look forward to, and thoroughly enjoy your reviews. Couple of questions: you mention it being a non entity. Is that your opinion or how they played as we need the points. Playing Stoke who are desperate next and then Chelsea we could lose 4th place?
Also do you think important decisions have gone against us substantially all this year? It goes back to the very first game for me. I try and have a balanced view and do see that we get some: like a couple against city but more went against us in those games.
You look at Utd and big decisions even yesterday (as Lukaka assaulted the Spurs centre half for the goal) get KEY decisions.

{Ed001's Note - how they played, certainly not my opinion. I believe every time a team steps out representing LFC it matters.

Big decisions have gone against us, yes, but every team could say the same I am sure. It is just you tend to remember those given against you rather than those given for you. Match officials are just abysmal in the Premier League, which is why I am worried that VAR will not help. It is the same inept people running VAR as running round on the pitch getting it wrong, how can we have confidence they will be any better when they get to watch it on TV?}

Thanks for the reply ed. Just frustrating at times. I know I am swayed by my red tinted specs but this year KEY decisions have gone against us. 3 points yesterday was massive for me.

Grateful i was in Amsterdam and didn't watch the match, sounded like i would've broke the tv watching the injustice.

Great read, Ed. You are spot on with near everything esp. with the ref who was rank incompetent all day. That was not even the worst. The worst was the pathetic Graham Poll (the man who succeeded in booking a player THREE times in a WC game) making crap up just to protected the ref who clearly, was just officiating based on guess work. Many are not saying this BUT imagine if we got screwed like this in a game where us not winning would have blown the CL race wide open? Yeah, that is the level of officiating we are dealing with. As for the level of officiating in the PL, I gave up on that the day where the ref crew completely SCREWED us out of a win vs Spurs at Anfield where NONE of them had NO clue what they were doing nor how the offside rule works YET the ref gave the pen when Kane dived despite not knowing if Lovs touched the ball (which by the way has nothing to do with the offside rule) . And if the people think VAR will help solve thi then as Ed said, we will be in for a shock. VAR will fix nothing and will only make it worse and the pundits, PGMOL and the Graham Polls of this world, will continue to make up ref rules to defend their puppies and defend VAR.

I agree Ed, I personally aren't for VAR, I'm not as confident on it as some are.

{Ed001's Note - I would like it to be run by an independent body, then it would be much better.}

The ref called the "foul" about 10-15m further upfield than where hendo "made contact". Gomez didn't touch him so maybe the ref called a foul against the rogue blade of grass that knocked him over.

Now that'd be a different story, I'd accept that, but not the way it currently is, I just think it's completely pointless.

{Ed001's Note - having watched what has been going on with it, right now it is worse than pointless, it is a hindrance.}

It wasn't given for the Hendo challenge (wasn't even a challenge) it was given for the gomez foul. Ref gave Burke the advantage but he fell over. Free kick was taken from where gomez challenged. It was a tough decision but probably the right one actually.

I think that Ref would be more suited to the game of Rugby, cos he had no clue how to ref a football game,
how he got to ref a premiership game is beyond me .

{Ed025's Note - liverpool fans do love a moan about referees, in their view a good ref is defined by how many decisions he gives in favour of liverpool and a bad one by when things go against them, most supporters are the same the world over but i must admit liverpool fans do take the biscuit on this one..
