What’s everyone’s thoughts about Zidane as a manager? I always thought that he was just a guy who knew how to manage the big egos in a club like Madrid, partly down to the respect he gets from his playing days. I might be miles off with this opinion as I don’t watch much Spanish league, so would appreciate any input.

End of the day if he beats us in the final. He's done what no manager has ever done and somehow, has to be regarded as one of the greats.

He has won 2 CL with a medicore Madrid ( that’s what people say here about Madrid ) which makes him one of the best ever!

He’s not going to beat us in the final 👍.

If he pull off a hat trick of CL's he is arguably the only manager to do that in modern era and that just if it happens will be a fact that shuts any and every argument against him. So called current best managers bar of today (bar mourinho) have not even won one CL and he might just win 3 on the trot.
His problems in league have been well documented and there are suggestions in Spain that if Zidane looses the final he looses the job at Madrid. I think there problem in league are because of a weak ass squad and ronaldo not hitting expected heights this season in the league.
As a manager i don't think Zidane has a clue about tactics game management or even subtitutions. But he does have a great respect in the dressing room. i think he could be a good motivator too, definitely has won every laurel the game has to offer. But i do feel he is perfect for madrid, he loves the club and i don't see why players won't join him.

AK rubbish - Madrid having a week ass squad? Have you seen Barcelona’s. Atletico in comparison even Valencia who weren’t far behind and beat them this season. His titles speak for themselves especially if he wins on Saturday. But I don’t rate Zidane as a tactician, I agree with all the comments about him working with egos and the fact that he commands respect from everyone that plays for him.
But I know plenty of Madrid fans that believe he hasn’t got a clue when picking teams for games or making subs during matches. He solely relies on some of the best players in the world turn up on the day and perform. They don’t regard him as improving players ability (unlike what you could say for Guardiola or Klopp) and they feel this could lead to a lot of their better younger talented players wanting to leave.

Weak ass squad? Reals squad is quality and the best in la liga imo. They have massively underperformed this season in La Liga.

Their team has gaping holes in it but I'm not sure it is weak. They have average defenders, average keepers, and aside from Ronaldo, average forwards. That midfield is stellar though; Kroos, Modric, Asensio, Isco, Kovacic, Ceballos and Casemeiro. The only team in Europe to better that is Man City.

Luckily for us, our midfield is perfect for disrupting a top class midfield who want the ball. I'm not sure a squad with Ronaldo in it can ever be called weak though. He has over 40 Champions League goals in the last 3 seasons alone. This is his competition. It's up to us to take it from him.

Zidane is the profiteer of Ronaldo brilliance.

I have no idea about him, his tactics, his diplomacy behind the scenes or his ability to motivate his players. He looks very smart though on the touch line.

I would equate Zidane at RM to Rodgers at Liverpool. The overall standard of players is higher at Madrid, obviously, but I truly believe that both (relatively) inexperienced managers benefitted from having a group of (in Madrids case) or a (in Liverpool's case) star players at the top of their game - Suarez for us, obvs!

The true test, if he gets that chance, is how Zidane copes bringing through the next crop of galacticos. If he manages to reproduce similar form with 'his' players, then I will rightly salute his managerial ability.

I posted a couple of years back that I have so much more confidence in Klopp than I had in Rodgers, despite the fact we almost won the league with the latter.
