No way could we afford that - That'll be the best part of 300 million. Jorginho is out the picture, and I think it'll be butland, one game does not change all transfer plans.

I think it's doable mate -
Allison (50m)
Jorginho (50m)
Fekir (60m)
Backup CB (20m)
Dembele (loan)

180 million
With net spend of around 150 million . why not, we need to spend that kind of money to challenge.

For me - butland, Tarkowski/ lascells (or rb using Gomez at cb), cabellos (based on what Ed’s have said), Fekir and Malcom/ Pulisic.
Starting 11:
Butland/ Karius (I’m so torn on that one)
Trent Lovren VVD Robbo
Hendo Keita
Salah Fekir Mane
Firmino
Subs-Karius/ Butland, Gomez, Tarkowski/ lascells, cabellos, Ox, Pulisic/ Malcom and Solanke.
That would leave-Klavan, Matip, Moreno, Milner, Gini and Ings.
Would be comfortably enough depth for next season.

If anything you have learned from the final watching Modric and Kroos then you will never dream of signing Ceballos. He is no controller! He is a Lallana. 🙄🙄. Please he is no DLP. He cannot pass like Modric. We need to look for Pjanic / Rabiot / Jorginho / Verratti.

{Ed001's Note - and what exactly did Kroos do that was so good? I wish someone would explain to me why he is so highly rated when he strolls around doing nothing.}

Exactly ed, Kroos was invicible in the game. Count the chances he made?
1 goal Karius
2 goal, great goal from Bale, but a deflected cross from Marcelo whom Arnold got the best of, the kid played one hell of a final.
3 goal Karius

Chances
Offside goal, Nacho cross
Isco crossbar, defelcted clearance
2 counter attacks last 5 min

Where was Kroos?

{Ed001's Note - it is odd how he is so highly rated, he is a lazier, slower, less energetic version of Pirlo, with less ability too.}

Butland has too many mistakes in his game, plus I think he’s off to Wolves with any luck, I’d rather we backed Karius and brought in a top class goalkeeper coach to help him. Ceballos wants to go back to Betis, plus Madrid would ask us stupid money (when they will be only asking Betis £14-16m) for someone who is a bench warmer for them and it wouldn’t be far off what Napoli are asking for Jorginho, it’s fair comment to say that Ceballos is no way as good as him, if we’re lashing out that kind of money at least go for someone who is worth the fee, I think Neves should be considered, he’s adapted to a more physical game and unlike Ceballos, he speaks perfect English and isn’t afraid of travelling plus it would mean not having to deal with Real Madrid. As for Tarkowski, he shouldn’t even be a consideration, Championship defender at best playing in an ultra defensive team, like Michael Keane, and how did that work out? Plus he’s a United fan which automatically raises my heckles. I’d also rather we went for Malcolm than Dembele, the consecutive hamstring injuries and the fact that he’s done nothing to suggest he was ever worth the fee that Barcelona paid for him, plus Bordeaux won’t be asking anywhere near for Malcolm what Barcelona will be for Dembele.

Here we go again. Back Karius and change the coach. Why not put the blame where it belongs?

{Ed001's Note - surely a great coach would have improved Karius and certainly improved his focus? If the coach is not at least partly to blame when players they coach are not improving, why did we not just stick with Houllier when his players were all getting worse? After all, he can't be to blame according to you.}

A great coach can make the difference, iron out the flaws in a player’s game, work on their strengths and improve them as a player, in any sport it’s the same. You look at the difference that Ivan Lendl made to Andy Murray in tennis. It’s not coincidence. Butland has similar flaws in his game that Karius does, so what difference does he make if he carries on making those mistakes? None at all. Other than being £30+ out of pocket for the privilege.

{Ed001's Note - not often I agree with you, but I do on your comments about a coach. It is not so obvious in outfield players, but goalkeeping is almost, almost, an individual sport and they need a specialist coach. A coach can make a massive amount of difference to a goalkeeper, in particular.}

Look what Achterberg has had to work with since Reina lost the plot. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

{Ed001's Note - nobody is asking him to do that. Not sure you understand this at all. All people are asking is that he improves the keepers he has worked with. Not one has improved over the years he has been there. Not one. You might not be able to make a silk purse, but you can damn well make sisig, lou mei or even a dog chew from it. All we have currently is some rotting pig's ears that are neither use nor ornament.}

I do understand it Ed001 and am not really backing Achterberg either. You say that all you can ask is that he improves players he works with. According to many who post on here Karius has improved massively this season. Who was responsible for that improvement?

I have probably been Karius! s biggest critic but I would not have put one post on here against him if it wasn’t for so many posting every excuse under the sun for him; he is adjusting from a foreign country, he is adjusting to the Prem, he is only young, he’s playing behind an unsettled back four, De Ge was crap and now is great so he will be too, it was Moreno’s fault, he’s hot nice hair. Everything apart from the obvious that he is not good enough.

I hope Karius has the mental strength to rebuild his career, but think it will be away from us. It’s nit impossible as U remember Joe Corrigan being regarded as a joke keeper when he first started and he went on to improve a lot and play for England. The problem with Karius is that he makes mistakes that no other keeper would make. Gifting Benzema a goal when he had safe possession, kicking a goalkick straight out for a corner. In fact I was beginning to think he was Gary Sprake reincarnated.

I swear on Harry Kane’s daughter’s life that I was going to post 2 weeks ago that I feared he would crumble under the pressure and make a mistake and cost us the final. I was wrong - he made 2.

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure what improvement you are talking about with regards to Karius. I have not seen it myself. He looks as shaky as he did when he first got into the team the moment he is put under pressure. Most people have posted he is an improvement over Mignolet, rather than that he has improved. Which he is. Which is also very worrying. However there is little point changing him for another keeper unless it is a much better one. We do however defo need to replace Achteberg. It doesn't matter what keeper we have had between the sticks, under Achteberg they are all shaky under pressure. Something that a top quality coach should be able to fix is a player's ability to perform under pressure. He clearly can't.}

Thanks Ed001. I do agree with you but it just gets up my nose when posters keep putting on here that Karius has improved and will be great when there is no evidence whatsoever. I can’t help myself from replying when they do that but I definitely don’t hold anything personally against Karius. When we signed him I wanted him to be the answer too but quickly saw that he wasn’t as good as everyone hoped.

I remember about 6 months ago when people said give him a run until the end of the season and give him the chance to show what he can do. Well, he’s shown what he can do and some still want him to start next season.

A top keeper is imperative for our progress. We all knew we needed a centre half and the money spent on Van Dijk was well spend as it has improved a massive problem. You couldn’t really criticise our defence on Saturday when you look at the goals we conceded. Investing in a top class keeper will prove to be equally important in my opinion.

My concern is that I’m not sure Klopp actually understands goalkeeping basics. Awarding Migs a 5 year deal when he came in, not seeing the flaws in Karius’s game, recalling Ward for sweet FA, being interested in Navas and Butland, who may be improvements on what we’ve got but not by enough to make much difference. Maybe he leaves that side of the business to someone else.
