Gonna be interesting what's going to happen regarding the goalkeepers this summer. And sadly, I fear we may wind up on the poor end of this movement.

Teh way I see it is that, at a certain price, all three of Oblak, Alisson and Donnarumma could possibly move.
Three of the top keepers 'available'.
And R Madrid, PSG and ourselves are the high end clubs in the market for a goalie.
I make the assumption that those guys are of interest to one or more of those clubs.

There's strong talk of Alisson- Madrid. Personally I can see it happening.
I can then see PSG moving for Oblak.
We may able to afford the basic transfer fee, but can't see us matching PSG personal 'package' to the player.

Donnarumma seemingly wants to stay put in Italy. With PSG and Madrid moving on from him, we'd ordinarily have had a free run at him.
But the Raiola factor means sky high fees, and so LFC be likely reluctant to get involved.

Teh only way we're getting either of Alisson or Oblak is if PSG/ Madrid don't move for them. The transfer fees themselves I doubt would deter us as such. It's just the competition that'll be our stumbling block.

Which means the worst case scenario, the spectre of Jack Butland, and scarily still, that of Keylor Navas, will strongly come onto the table as a very real, probable outcome.
Which means we'd be no better off than we are now.
We'd still have the worst goalie of Europe's top 10 clubs.

Those moaning about the potential cost of Alisson/ Oblak, well, the cost of not having their level of goalie a lot ghastly I tell ya. But you already know that.

If there's even a smidgen of a chance, we MUST make a deal happen. We'd already be 15 points to the good.
Same impact as Virgil.
Either we take the plunge NOW and become a genuine top PL and CL team or continue hedging our bets with hit and missies like Migs/ Karius/ Navas or average Butland.

I think the jury is still out big time Donnarumma. He makes a lot of mistakes but is young. I wouldn't go with him.

Alisson and Oblak would be great but expensive.

Ed001/ Ed002, I'm not sure if you ever answered this but outside of the keepers above, is there any keeper out there that has impressed you outside of ones at the top top clubs.

To be clear outside of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, PSG, Barcelona, the British top 5.

{Ed002's Note - Bernd Leno and Mattia Perin have generally played well over a decent period and both will likely move this summer. In terms of the lesser known GKs, I am told by someone in the know that Andriy Lunin is a very good young player who has attracted a lot of attention from Spanish, Italian and English sides including, I shouldn't tell you this of course, Liverpool. Right now a deal for him to move to Italy is well in hand. Reinis Reinholds is a young player tucked away in the lower divisions in Italy that I am told is well worth looking at. Alex Meret has two high-profile clubs showing interest in him - one from Italy and one from England - and he has oft being mentioned as having a great future.}

Ed002 has Perrin recovered from that injury he suffered. He looked a good keeper prior to that. Cheers for the info by the way.

{Ed002's Note - He has been fine all season and there is high-profile interest in him. And I forgot, Karlo Letica is another worthy of mention.}

From what I saw of Perrin he always looked a decent keeper (if slightly feral looking), good to hear that he’s been fine all year as I’d heard he’d had quite a serious knee injury. You did say quite a while back that there was quality to be found beyond the usual suspects if clubs did some scouting Ed.

So then going by what Ed02's said, our new goalie could be something outta the blue (Fabinho-esque) due to the many wild cards?
Interesting.
Thing with some of these prospects is that there's the risk of finding ourselves exactly where we are should it go sour.

And can we afford to wait? Alisson and Oblak are young themselves in age and goalkeeping terms. They 'guarantee' the performance level required almost instantly.

This is a critical juncture we at. We'll either surge further forward and become a truly top team.
Fail to seize the moment, strike while the iron is hot, we fall back.
Teh teams around us all be improving their squads, spending big.

We can't fall behind. I really would rather we get an already top level keeper and accelerate away.
Crucial position which we can no longer afford to take chances with.

Does 75m for VVD seem too much now?
I tell ya, 80m+ for either of Oblak/ Alisson would be a bargain looking at the impact they'd have.
They'd be the Salah of our goal.
Our stock has never been this high in years. We got ability to attract the high end players. We're part of the conversation now. Make the most of it.

That said, I'm still expecting Jack Butland to arrive, because that would be soooo Liverpool.
I shall pray.

{Ed002's Note - No I didn't say that - I answered a totally different question.}

Letica looks like monster of a keeper. He’s got so much potential it’s unreal. Same height as Peter Crouch but as nimble as a gymnast and built like brick outhouse. And he’s only 21.

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in him from Real Madrid and, particularly, Newcastle.}

Ed002, is Alban Lafont likely to move this transfer window? Are there any teams that have shown interest in him? Are Liverpool one of them, to the best of your knowledge?

Thanks

Z.

{Ed002's Note - Yes it looks like he is moving but it is nothing to do with Liverpool.}

Thank you Ed002. Am I right in thinking Crystal Palace are looking most likely to sign him at the moment? Appreciate its not Liverpool related, but please :)

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}
