As always, appreciate all the Ed's work.

I check this page daily and find it hugely and mainly informative, however I feel the need to throw my thoughts in as I truly believe everyone (including the club) are missing a serious couple of opportunities.

1- why not avoid spending on a GK and give Ward an opportunity? What's he done wrong, got experience getting Huddersfield promoted and a great season with Aberdeen.

2 - I see very few posts regarding strengthening the CB positsion to many folk talking about strengthening Lb/ Rb etc! I don't get it we need another world class CB to partner VVD.

Summary, use whatever money we have to replace the GK's and buy another world class CB!

Not having a dig, but I am confused; avoid to spend or spend to replace the GKs?

I disagree with both of the points;

1. Lots might be wondering just like me why Ward isn't given the chance. We can think of loads of reason or points to back him up to be given the chance, but I think there's something behind the doors that makes Klopp not confident enough to give him one. On this, I trust Klopp. As much as I would love the team to have a world-class keeper, I also despise all these bashing towards the current GK and I don't mind the manager sticks with Karius.

2. I feel Lovren is getting better partnering with VVD, and I don't see a reason to find another to partner VVD. However, I would agree and would be happy if there's another addition for that position. Matip and Klavan are not convincing enough to back those two.

1) The general consensus is Ward isn't ready and potentially may never be i think

2) we don't have any fullbacks beyond TAA and AR that are at the level required, whilst also being a more physically demanding job than CB where arguably JM and RG are just as good as DL.

1. Klopp and his team work with Ward every day and have decided that he's behind Migs and Karius. What he did in Scotland and the Championship is secondary to that.

2. This is my own view but a new CB would effectively end Gomez's Liverpool career. Klopp may be happy to keep Lovren as a stop gap to see if Gomez can step up. If he can't then a new CB we'll be looked at.

Was thinking the same yesterday about Ward. If he is good enough I don’t see why he hasn’t been given a chance yet. Maybe he’s not quite at the level yet (can’t say the rest are judging by this season either) .
I think Lovren has improved next to VVD and the partnership should be given this next season to strengthen further.
However I don’t think Matip is anywhere near good enough when he’s needed and should be sold. Klavan is slow but seems a good pro to have around and seems accepted of the fact he’s a bench warmer at the moment.
But. Ideally for me we’d sign a quality centre back to compete for a starting spot with Lovren, shift on Matip and Klavan and use Gomez as cover for that position.

Still plenty of snide digs at Lovren I see. The guy has done a good job now we havevavsettled back 4 and better keeper. He was partnering the very poor Matip before VVD came along with the completely inept Migs behind. Since the changes he's played as well as anyone in the back line.
A further point, our back 4 is as good or better than anyone's in the PL, city won the league by a landslide with a worst back 4 than us. The difference was their excellent midfield to go with their excellent attack. it's midfield where we struggled and now Klopp has made improvements there. Maybe lay off Lovren for a bit now as he upped his game and finished the season very well.

Agree totally over Lovren. I think he will get better with a decent protection from midfield which Fabinho should do.

He’s made mistakes, but not nearly as many as Karius, who is still should be number 1 according to many on here.

Ps/ if the keeper we sign is Butland he will not come as cover, he will be number one. Ask yourselves this, if Katius was English, do you think Southgate would have taken him to Russia? Not a chance. I don’t know the Germany squad but don’t think he is in that either.

The argument against Lovren is the same as the argument against Karius. They both benefit from a lot of good will and perform adequately in a good team but neither are to class players.

The situation should be if a better player than the one we currently have is available then we should be looking to make the change.

For me that better player could be Gomez but he needs time to show if that is the case or not. That's why I'm happy for Lovren to stay another season, he's good enough for now and we can improve other areas first but in the long run we should want better than him.

1) I highly doubt ward wants to stay after being kept from first team football for an entire season, we could have at least loaned him out instead of getting his hopes up.

2) Lovren has stepped his game up next to VVD, albeit the odd mistake/ misjudgment here and there but he has got a lot better compared to how he used to be.
Also, buying a world class center back will just knock Gomez further down the pecking order and he needs to start getting more chances playing at CB because he does have high potential (hopefully) .
Unless Clynn goes, we have 3 players to cover right back (Trent, Fabinho and Clynn) so Gomez will probably be utilised more in the center unless Trent moves into midfield, but I don't see that happening with how strong our midfield is getting :')

You never know, with a top keeper we might not need to fork out on a top CB because what we have may be more confident and be even more solid.

Lovren, made many game changing mistakes. moreno, made many game changing mistakes. mignolet, made many game changing mistakes. Karius, made many game changing mistakes.

Yet three (injuries apart as moreno would of been our regular left back) out of those four have been mainstays in our team, you cannot have that many accidents waiting to happen in a side and expect to win major titles.

Take some of your points about Lovren above, having a defensive midfielder in front of him to protect him, comments have also been made over the weeks and months about van dijk helping him out, so you want to keep a player as a regular who needs help from his cb partner to help him concentrate and also a defensive midfielder to give him added protection?

They all have to go, end of! Not old enough to know what Bill Shankly would of done but I have a shrewd idea, but my era was Sir Bob Paisley and I know exactly what he'd of done with all four of them (moved them on. )

Sick of this PC let's not criticise anyone because they may become a bit upset attitude, thank them for there efforts and move them on.

Waro, that's a bit childish mate, if we had Man City money then yes replace Lovren, all the goalkeepers, Moreno, Clyne etc etc etc.
We don't, so have a bit of sense lad, Klopp is looking at our critical deficiencies which have been midfield and he's addressing those with Keita and Fabhinho, that's a huge spend from the owners who don't have the vast sums of City. He may now bring Fekir which is another huge spend and talk of a winger now too. How much do you think the club has?
Everyone knows Lovren has had problems but without a blank cheque book Klopp and the owners need to fix the biggest problems, it can only be done in stages and the club are doing a good job of improving us year on year.

Loren has been good enough since VVD came in so no need to buy someone else for the foreseeable future.

I agree with Waro. There is no need to keep the 4 players. Sell them and get the very best Liverpool can afford. If we want to get better then there is no room for sentiment.

McGoveb, our critical deficiencies are in midfield 😱. The keeper and defence have been our deficiencies for ten years. If like you say we can't sort the defence and midfield out at the same time because we're "not man city" then forget the midfield and buy a world class keeper and centre half and go with what we currently have, but I don't buy into "the owners can't afford it" they can but enablers such as yourself give them the excuse not to.
