For a little distraction from the transfers, Who then do fellow reds think has been our best keeper? Reina, dudek, Westerveld! Then we have the the signings of the potentially great young keepers who for whatever reason failed to live up to expectation, David James, Scott Carson, Chris Kirkland, not forgetting the ever rotated Brad friedel! Or maybe Brucey, and Clem. We are due a great keeper, I still hope it's Karius, and he comes back a new man, confident, keen to work hard on his decision making and concentration, and certainly if I was him I would want to prove myself firstly to myself, the manager, the fans and ram Didi's criticism down his throat!

Ray Clemence. Best ever. I saw an article quite a while ago now, discussing this very subject, who was the best ever GK Liverpool had and they had chosen Reina lol I immediately stopped reading. Reina over Grobbelaar/ Clemence? my word.

{Ed025's Note - im with you salah mate..

Ray Clemence. The best ever GK to put on a LFC shirt.

Absolutely agree with Ed025 - Ray Clemence.

Of the youngsters you mentioned, I would've loved to have seen how Kirkland could have developed without the injuries. I honestly thought he had a great career ahead of him with us, but he was one of the most injury prone players I've ever come across - in the Darren Anderton/ Daniel Sturridge mould.

the way the post started I thought we were only choosing from PL era hence Westerveld, Dukek, James etc were listed. as perhaps being our best keeper. then I see Clemence and Bruce. of PL era it’s reina but from all time there is no comparison between a great keeper like Clemence and the other names from PL era.

Without doubt Grobbelaar he would be the original sweeper keeper
Up the pool.

{Ed025's Note - not a bad keeper redan...but i always wanted to sneak up behind him and cut that stupid looking pony tail thing off..

Reina was probably our best GK on a technical level. But in terms of overall I would say Clemence.

{Ed0333's Note - Grobs would give you heart palpitations every game one minute he could be the best keeper in the world and then then he’d do something so outrageously risky you’d be tearing your heart out. Clemence was a lot more conservative but don’t sacrifice any ability. Gave the defense a calming influence and when he was needed did his job with aplomb. Exactly what we need now. I would say Reina was a sexier version of Clemence they were in the same mould. But Clemence for me all day long.

As much as I enjoyed grobs it has to be clemance. Only seen vids and YouTube as not old enough to see him live. From what I've heard, read and seen this guy wins hands down.

Funny that because when former players have been asked I’ve heard most of them say Grobbelaar over Clem. I prefer Ray myself though.

I saw lots of games with Clemo in goal, he was very hard to score against, safe pair of hands, he was the best ever Liverpool goalie, I also saw Shilton and Gordon Banks, Banks was The best keeper .
I also saw the friendly game, at Anfield many years ago, Northern Ireland V Scotland, I think, but it was Pat Jennings in goal, massive hands, and Gorgie Best playing on the right wing, the way he just walked past defenders had to be seen, Jennings was really good, still Banks by a country mile .

Why did Reina leave? He’s the last “solid” keeper we’ve had!
