Shaqiri created 84 chances last season, Salah created 59 in the league for comparison. He also scored 8 and assist 7. Those saying he has no talent and is a pub level player (paraphrasing) are going overboard massively. He has talent and quality about him but his problem s attitude and ego. If Klopp thinks he can sort him out then we'd have a good player as back up who offers us something no other players on our bench do. For 12m is seems good business to me, if it goes wrong, sell him on in January for a profit. Similar things were said about Mane re attitude with people similarly going overboard with their criticism of him but he sorted himself out and we have a top player on our hands. Shaqiri isn't as good as Mane obviously but I think he'd be a very good back up if Klopp can sort him out. We must make it clear to him before he signs what his role will be though. I also hope we sign Simon Moses, our cover on the winger is non-existent and we need to have the option of resting both Salah and Mane without becoming toothless, signing him would also help us in the earlier stages of the cups.

For me Shaqiri’s talent has never been in doubt, what worries me is his attitude and work rate. If he knuckles down and works hard then £12 million for him is a bargain.

Charlie Adam had great stats too.

Adam and Shaqiri are very different players.

Shaqiri is a gamble anyway we look at it though.

Downing scored 7 goals and registered 7 assists in the league in his final season at Villa. Didn't score a single league goal for us in his first season.

Anyone who has properly watched Shaqiri play more than just a couple times will see the lads got a lot of quality and shouldn’t have been at a club like stoke. His attitude is what made his career stall and why the majority of people doubt this transfer. I think he’s a more established player than our other options (Moses Simon specifically) but I do have my reservations on how he’d handle being a squad player rather than in the first 11. One other thing that bothers me is that he’s left footed and plays mainly on the RW which is where Salah plays, I think Salah is the more consistent out of mane and him so if anyone was ever to get ‘dropped’ wouldn’t it be mane? And we all knows left footed players that cut in don’t do well on the left side. So in other words he offers less flexibility that a signing like Moses Simon would.

I think Shaqiri, even for all his issues, is good on two counts:
1. We are lacking a great set piece taker in our first eleven, and Shaqiri can really produce the goods
2. When Salah starts playing centrally at the end of games, we don’t have a lot of options on the right wing / with left footers.

Fekir is a set piece taker.

Fekir is also left footed.
